Derek Chauvin intends to appeal George
Floyd murder conviction

Derek Chauvin plans to appeal his conviction and sentence for the murder of George Floyd — arguing the judge abused his discretion in critical points in the case, according to documents filed Thursday. The former Minneapolis police officer said in the court filing that he intends to appeal on 14 grounds. One claim made by Chauvin in the notice to appeal is that Judge Peter Cahill abused his discretion by denying him a request to move the trial out of Hennepin County because of pretrial publicity. Chauvin, 45, also claimed Cahill abused his discretion when he denied requests to postpone the trial or grant a new one —

Comments:

He should never have been convicted in the first place. This whole trial was a sham and a travesty to appease the rioting thugs in Minneapolis. The charges and conviction should be tossed from court WITH PREJUDICE!!

Good luck. This was a sham prosecution from start to finish - a bone thrown to BLM to prevent them from burning Minneapostan down. Not that it worked anyway. Every day Chauvin spends in jail is a travesty. When he wins, I hope he sues the prosecutor and the city for millions.

Chauvin was "convicted" by a mob, not a jury. He followed the rules. Floyd died of a heart attack, which was aggravated by Fentanyl and COVID. But the judge refused a change of venue. A hanging was required by the mob, so the judge instituted a hanging. Reminds me of Mark Twain. H. L. Mencken would have had a field day with this. Where is Will Rogers when we need him? No legal basis exists for convicting Chauvin of any crime. The basis for his conviction is that Minnestan would burn to the ground. Chauvin's conviction did not help; the ritual bloodletting continued anyway, Minnestan will soon abolish its police, courts, jails, and laws. Then anarchy will reign, and the Dems will celebrate the destruction of a once great city. Dems like to destroy things. Dems destroy babies with abortion. Dems destroyed Afghanistan. Dems destroyed the Border. Find me something Dems do not destroy.

From infancy, people become very good at reading faces. He was convicted mainly because of the callous expression of apparent indifference for nine minutes as Floyd pitifully repeated that he could not breathe. Had Chauvin even said something like, "calm down, sir, medical help is on the way," if would have been a different case, starting with the charges brought. All of that said, the defendant deserved a change of venue.

#4, a unique and astute POV. Thanks for posting. A trial by jury is supposed to weed out the subjective such as the mindset of a person bearing an extremely callous expression. Given the coroner’s report, Chauvin was not guilty of murder and I fail to see how the arrival at a guilty verdict is different from the disgraceful performance at the Bryant and Millam trial concerning the murder of Emmett Till in Money, MS in 1955 except the races and verdict are reversed.

Thousands of America’s small businesses are teetering on the edge of permanent closure, and Democrats in Washington are about to give them one final shove. The result will be the further fraying of our social fabric and the permanent loss of working-class jobs. Over the last several months, small businesses persevered the best they could, holding on until “temporary” welfare programs driving people away from work expired. But if there were any doubt left that Dems’ ultimate goal wasn’t a temporary boost to Americans most impacted by lockdowns, but rather a calculated step toward government control and socialism,

President Joe Biden is prone to blatant whoppers, but his claims that turning America into a European-style welfare state via the biggest expansion of federal government in decades will cost nothing are truly in a league of their own. “My Build Back Better Agenda costs zero dollars,” he tweeted last weekend, repeating his Friday line — clearly thinking Americans will believe anything. Biden’s agenda includes $1.2 trillion for infrastructure and $3.5 trillion for social spending, the Green New Deal and other Democratic priorities. Some items in the plan are real doozies: $3 billion for tree saplings, with priority for “tree equity”; $5 billion for environmental- and climate-justice block grants;

I’m not sure there is anything in his falling upwards life that he hasn’t lied about or inflated like a party balloon. From his lifeguarding days to inflating his education, to the ugly and verifiably false claim that his daughter and first wife were killed by a drunk driver. Sometime around mid-day last Friday, as the headwinds blew strongly against the $3.5 trillion reconciliation boondoggle, the White House and their allies in Congress decided on a new messaging strategy: Just say it costs nothing. Yes, in the fantasy world our political leaders inhabit, $3.5 trillion “costs zero dollars.” That was the line Joe Biden dropped on September 25th. Worse, the media have run with that idea, arguing into absurdity that tax cuts that let you keep more of your own income “cost” money but huge, multi-trillion-dollar spending bills are somehow free because of tax hikes that may or may not produce what is claimed.

They then calculate the percentage of the total land area that is covered by trees — a metric called ‘tree canopy cover,’” the San Francisco Chronicle reported and compared the California city’s tree cover with other U.S. cities.
