When President Joe Biden visited Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, he promised a key form of federal aid to those dealing with the lingering effects of the storm, but weeks after landfall getting that financial help has been easier said than done. The money would go straight into survivors' bank accounts "so that they can deal immediately with emergencies," Biden said Sept. 3. (Snip) But weeks after the storm, getting access to those items is still a challenge, and has left some residents who say they have urgent needs confused about why they have not received the federal

Obviously they've become used to getting bailed out by everybody else. It's not like Hurricanes are unknown in the Gulf states. Plan accordingly and stop using the fed gov, who has to steal from everybody to hand money to you.*
*(Printing dollars without getting some work product in return is what inflation is, and that devalues the money in everybody's pocket. A stealth robbery.)

I don't live anywhere near where hurricanes occur (tornadoes are our disaster of choice in Illinois) but isn't there some sort of insurance for this? Why are taxpayers always on the hook for this sort of thing? I know I pay a pretty penny to insure my home against all calamities.
Can someone in hurricane-prone areas weigh in on this?

Didn't they pound Bush over Katrina which was more powerful and where by no fault of his (Army Engineers fault) the levee's fell apart?
Let's see if the LSM pounds Xiden.

If FEMA wasn't solving ALL problems the same day that it happened poor old Dubya got massive hysterical bad press from the Enemedia.
But the Enemedia now supports Traitor Joe, so all incompetence is just not news.

I live in Metairie LA, a suburb of New Orleans. I won’t criticize why you live where you live, and I wish you would respect my well thought out decision to live where I do. I have a leaking roof in several spots, cracked walls, and cracks in my ceiling, but I am back in my house after a two week evacuation. It is impossible to find a roofer to affix a tarp. A call to the FEMA blue roof people said they might be able to come out in another three weeks or so. My elderly husband finally climbed up on the roof and affixed a tarp to the worst spot, so we are not swimming inside the house. We pay through the teeth for insurance, yet it is a battle to get them to pay anything on the damages. I suspect it is that way with a lot of other natural disasters. We do not expect the federal government to bail us out, and that’s why we pay insurance premiums. I have lived in South Louisiana for 73 years, been a homeowner for 52 years, and this is the first time I have ever had to file a claim on my homeowners insurance. I did not expect it to be the battle it has become.Makes me wish I had saved up the money I spent on premiums all those years. I’d be able to build a mansion with the money in my pocket. Rant off.

Gee, all that hate for a red state that isn't getting aid but nobody mentions there hasn't been a whiff of FEMA issues in blue states like NY, NY and PA that got hammered by Ida. Gee, wonder why? Its not like Biden isn't punishing red states by withholding things like lifesaving monoclonal antibodies or anything. This isn't about competence, this is the policy of some states getting their fair share while others are paying their fat share. Blue states get their fair share while red states pay their fair share. Cute isn't it!

Whoever said you would be receiving financial aid. The aid normally given are deduction on your tax returns, so you will need to file one of those.

Wow, # 1 - it's a shame everyone in Louisiana isn't like you and chose to live in a place where there are no storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, hail, snow, ice storms. No one can predict what the weather will be or when it will be. I hope you aren't living in California - they seem to have massive fires all the time. Who in their right mind would chose to live there.

#8 hits it on the mark.
And, with the democrats attacking oil, natural gasoline and refining, I'd hope most in Louisiana will realize the democrats are not helping you.
They only "help" when they can build a massive new program that will employ a bunch of bureaucrats in DC, rent a bunch of fancy office space, buy office furniture, phones and computers, etc.... Then, they dole out what's left to those who need help.

I saw some words in the explanations from the government officials that said all I needed to know about why the payment were being delayed: EQUITY. Equity to underserved areas. Making sure there was equity in payments. EQUITY EQUITY EQUITY. Anytime I hear the word Equity and underserved areas I know that many people who really need help will not be assisted because they live in "the wrong area" (too affluent, too white) to be served first, even if they were hit the hardest.

Biden's incompetence on display. Bush got crucified by the media for his Katrina response. Lemon and company are silent on this, as such they too, are complicit.

Wow! What a load! Almost as bad as Catholic haters. What about the east coast? No one there depends on FEMA and gov. hand outs? Right! Too late to get rid of FEMA and hand outs to people for storm damages. Matters not whether Louisiana or New Jersey. So just as the east coast will be waiting for hand outs, so will Grand Isle and Mandeville. Everybody else will have to foot the bill. Since you are so filled with knowledge you settle this. I'd rather live here in Louisiana than any where north and east of here. Folks have hearts and care for each other. Oh yeah. Fires in California...a dem state that has ruined forestry and water. And every year has horrendous fires. Too bad. A hand out please. Or earth quakes. There are no places any where in the world where weather or seismic where people live. Horses behind.

...and so there's government pay offs for disasters. I don't know when these big govmoney started. What year...? Unfortunately it's there and people will go after it. I don't care who or what state. If free money is there. Louisiana and New Jersey will get some. You fix that one. You find a way to stop paying for hand outs. So sit and complain. Get on your high horse "self righteous" and fix it. I don't depend on these payments. I have insurance, paid through the nose, so to speak. Enjoy your ride on "self righteous."

My wife’s parents home got flooded some years ago. FEMA offered a loan $30,000 for repairs but it was a loan and, being the honest, decent people they are, they paid it off in two years. I am not sure what FEMA does now but they probably shower money on you if you are the right color. Hekkuva job, Joey.

The government shouldn't be responsible for taking care of all problems. That is communism. We used to have a republic.

Note its from ABC so I assume its mostly fake.
All this is about $500 checks for individuals with lifesaving needs. I figure if your still around now, 2 weeks later, you didn't really need it anyway.

#20 YOU pay FEMA. And any one else who sends money to Uncle Sugar. I was in a hurricane in FL in 2004. Had to sign up with FEMA but got nothing from them because we had insurance. Guess they needed their numbers upped. That time people in Miami filed claims and received $ from FEMA but no hurricane hit there this time. I guess they keep the applications around for when they could need them. I remember when Uncle Sugar did NOT pay everyone when there was a weather disaster. That was long ago.
