Nancy Mace Called Herself a 'New
Voice' for the GOP. Then She Pivoted.

Rep. Nancy Mace had just delivered the kind of red-meat remarks that would ordinarily thrill the Republican voters in attendance here on a recent sweltering evening, casually comparing liberal Democrats to terrorists — the “Hamas squad,” she called them — and railing against their “socialist” spending plans. But asked to give an assessment of her congresswoman, Mara Brockbank, a former leader of the Charleston County Republican Party who previously endorsed Mace, was less than enthusiastic. “I didn’t like that she back-stabbed Trump,” Brockbank said. “We have to realize that she got in because of Trump. Even if you do have something against your leaders, keep them to yourself.”

(Note: Yahoo portal - not behind the NYT paywall) This one bears watching. Supported liz cheney before she opposed her. One of her apologists offers a stupid analogy of a new sailor trying to get her sea legs but then paddling in another direction upon realizing there's a conservative storm coming over the horizon.

More like another Mark Sanford or Nikki Haley. This one's not nearly as bright as she thinks she is if she thinks President Trump or his supporters were responsible the January 6 spectacle.

Sadly, few voters will probably face facts. She has clearly demonstrated who she is and wisdom would be to work and find a conservative replacement ASAP. Chances are, she will use the playbook RINOs give her. Its worked to keep Miss Lindsey in the Senate.

Most Conservatives and Trump supporters here saw her as a lightweight and voted for Kathy Landing in the primaries, but the “Citadel” story reverberates well here in South Carolina and especially Charleston and coupled with the “cute” Waffle House saga, she won. Sadly the city of Charleston has already turned blue and the reality of the “northern evasion” is bringing liberals here by the (moving) truckload. We need strong, smart conservatives here or the genteel low country will just be another Virginia.

Nancy Mace is the proverbial weathervane. What really gripes me is that this article is not reporting, but an editorial…”Trump’s lies” about the election, and “Trump’s corrosive influence” on the party. The Times is the paper of doom and gloom that can’t get Trump out out of their heads, they hate him so much. But Nancy Mace is another bored housewife who decided politics would be a nice gig to get her out of the house. Weathervane!

Reuters has a disturbing report out of Afghanistan this week showing how entrenched the Taliban is in that nation and the brutality they are willing to exhibit to retake control of the country. [snip] Trying to destroy the fighter jets and helicopters we gave to the Afghan Air Force is difficult and dangerous since they tend to be in heavily defended areas. Shooting them down while in flight is also nearly impossible unless you have your own fighter jets or sophisticated surface-to-air missile systems. But if they can manage to kill off all of the pilots, there won’t be an air force anymore.

Black people represented the largest increase in traffic deaths last year than any other racial group, even as Americans drove less overall due to the pandemic, according to recently released data. (Snip) Along with the systemic nature of this problem, Gladney pointed out that social racism also plays a role in the rising number of traffic fatalities. A 2017 study from the University of Nevada found that drivers are less likely to slow down or stop for Black pedestrians than they are for white ones.

Los Angeles police have charged five people in connection with the shooting of Lady Gaga's dog walker and the kidnapping of her beloved French bulldogs, according to police. Three of the five arrested -- James Jackson, 18, Jaylin White, 19, and Lafayette Whaley, 27 -- were allegedly involved in the robbery and shooting of the singer's dog walker, Ryan Fischer, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Authorities don't believe Fischer was targeted because he works for Lady Gaga; investigators believe the suspects were motivated by the high value of French bulldogs, police said.

SAN DIEGO -- A California judge cleared the way Thursday for all restaurants in San Diego County to resume on-site dining, marking a major setback to the governor’s stay-at-home order to slow the spread of the coronavirus before the state's intensive care units run out of beds. The case brought to the court by two San Diego strip clubs handed the biggest victory yet to California businesses fighting public health orders that they say have crippled them economically. President Donald Trump sued Wisconsin officials Tuesday in a last-ditch effort to reclaim a state he lost by about 20,700 votes. [Snip] Under the federal "safe harbor" law, the results determined by the state will be respected if challenges to the outcome are resolved by Dec. 8. The Electoral College meets on Dec. 14 and Congress is to count the electoral votes on Jan. 6. State law says challenges to election results are to be filed in circuit court, but Trump brought his lawsuit directly with the state Supreme Court, where conservatives hold a 4-3 majority. The justices did not immediately say whether they would take the case.

When it was clear that candidate Donald Trump would win the republican presidential nomination in March/April 2016 the RNC, specifically Reince Priebus, salivated at getting their hands on the Trump campaign donor files. [Snip] This is all about who is getting paid by the campaign and RNC. The Trump campaign isn’t going to reimburse Sidney Powell for any expenses, nor is she allowed to make offers of financial payment from the GOP or Trump campaign. The vultures assembling and protecting their paychecks do not want Powell getting paid, nor do they want any financial liability. That’s all this statement is.

There are lots of diversions in the Big White Ghetto, the vast moribund matrix of Wonder Bread–hued Appalachian towns and villages stretching from northern Mississippi to southern New York. [Snip] Nicholas Kristof, visiting nearby Jackson, Ky., last year, was shocked by parents who were taking their children out of literacy classes because improved academic performance would threaten $700-a-month Social Security disability benefits, which increasingly are paid out for nebulous afflictions such as loosely defined learning disorders. “This is painful for a liberal to admit,” Kristof wrote, “but conservatives have a point when they suggest that America’s safety net can sometimes entangle people in a soul-crushing dependency.”

Nancy Pelosi used to point her angry finger at Donald Trump, but she leaves him for dust when it comes to busting norms, dividing Congress and causing mayhem. If anyone is to blame for the hyper-partisanship in Washington these days, it’s the spiteful House speaker. She behaves more like a Mafia don waging a gang war than a dignified, fair and honest presiding officer, which is what the speaker’s role requires. Pelosi abuses her power in ways that once were unthinkable. Her speakership has been the antithesis of Lincoln’s entreaty to “the better angels of our nature.”
