TRIGGERED: Political Journo Says Shooting AR-15 For The First Time ‘Felt Like A Meteor’

Original Article

A political journalist in Vermont unironically penned a column this week explaining how his experience shooting an AR-15 in an indoor range for the first time “rattled” him. “It is difficult to describe the impact — physical and personal — of that first shot. It felt like a meteor had struck the earth in front of me,” Kevin McCallum, a political reporter for Seven Days, wrote unashamedly. The journo started off by admitting he’s not “a gun guy” and hasn’t shot anything other than a .22 rifle at a camp more than three decades ago.

Comments:

Remember this sissy the next time you feel like the left might be unbeatable in the culture wars. These people are pathetic, weak, and must be defeated.

Well, if you really thought of all the implications of eating you would have the same reaction every time you eat something- the killing of animals, the deaths and toil in the fields, the deaths and toil in the distribution system, all so you can sit and dine and feel self righteous indignation about the people involved. Without the gun the food would all be stolen before it arrived at your table. The jorno wants to outsource life’s unpleasantnesses so he can be his dainty inner self. Imagine his horror when he has to go to the bathroom.

Who are these idiots? An AR-15 is not heavy, not intimidating, and is probably the easiest rifle there is to shoot. Easy to aim, no recoil... who is this guy?

He's just lying. Little kids can and do shoot AR's very easily and well. The recoil is very low compared to all of the normal "deer rifle" category of rifles.

Try a Barrett .50 cal rifle - then tell me about recoil. (BTW, if you want kick, try the old school rifles from WWII and before - then come back and tell me about the "earthquake experience" of an AR-15 or is that AR-14??

Only shot one once (borrowed) and it was a bit of a disappointment. Didn't knock me down, it just put a bullet where my sights were. And another. And another. Lever action Winchester .45 was much the same. Expected it to go BANG but the sound was more like "punk". The bullet however hit the bulls eye at 75 yards.

Hearing this whinging journalista, his Depends as loaded as a Glock 33-round 'fun stick" magazine at a shooting range, complain about the punishing recoil of the nearly recoilless .223 Remington / 5.56 NATO cartridge fired from the AR-15 platform reminds me of a bit of dialogue from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). Blondie (Clint Eastwood) to Tuco (Eli Wallach): "You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig." To the dewy young sea robin Kevin McCallum whose shoulder was assaulted by the "assault rifle," I would say, "Along with their pink slips, too many so-called journalists need to hear, 'The world needs ditch diggers, too.'" Especially you.

The root word meteor comes from the Greek meteōros, meaning "high in the air".(meaning they do NOT land in front of anyone) Millions of meteors occur in Earth's atmosphere daily. Most meteoroids that cause meteors are about the size of a grain of sand, i.e. they are usually millimeter-sized or smaller. They travel at an average of 47,000MPH/68,933.33Feet per second. Most common Ar-15 NATO round: 5.56millimeter, 55 grain (Nosler ballistic tip) 2209.091mph/3,240 ft/s Sooo...while an AR15 round is 5 times the size of your average meteor, it is 1/21 as fast, with LESS kinetic energy than a grain of meteorite "Dust" It is a frikken .22 caliber, a bullet we start small children out with, tooooo small to even use on deer in most states.Though it IS sufficient for "Varmints" of all shapes and sizes.

I've fired a .45 1929 Thompson submachine gun at the FBI's Citizens Academy in Lexington. Out of the original box and kept, maintained by the FBI Louisville office. Agent told me it would fetch $100,000+ in the open market. Awesome shooting it - it tracked up a little on me (didn't know exactly what to expect) but I quickly got used to it and it was fun firing it.

Typical 'journalist'. My 12 gauge O/U has five times the recoil of my AR-15. My shoulder would come back green, purple, and blue from a busy dove shoot. When the doves were coming fast I tended to get in a hurry and not mount the gun properly and paid the price. The doves were tasty though.

Remember that he was on an INDOOR range. The recoil would have been miniscule, but the noise and muzzle blast could have been substantial for a novice shooter. I have shot everything--shotgun, machinegun, rifle and pistol-- from .22 CB caps to .50 BMG Ma Deuce and M-79 grenade launcher. (Showing my age with that last one.)The muzzle blast and sonic boom with most any rifle from 5.56 on up can be a bit unpleasant when fired under cover or indoors. Still no excuse for being a wussified, snowflake putz.

A new Supreme Court brings new hope to reeling in unchecked federal power. For the last few decades, the Supreme Court has allowed Congress to delegate unchecked power to unelected agency officials, who are mainly part of the executive branch. The executive branch has thus legislated through unelected officials and latched onto powers not granted to them via the Constitution. The most recent example is President Joe Biden’s mandate that large employers require their workers to be vaccinated or test for the virus weekly.

Boy or girl? If it was up to the American Medical Association (AMA), not even parents would know. Once again revealing the organization’s highly politicized motives, the AMA said sex should be removed as a legal designation on birth certificates. “Designating sex on birth certificates as male or female, and making that information available on the public portion, perpetuates a view that sex designation is permanent and fails to recognize the medical spectrum of gender identity. This type of categorization system also risks stifling an individual’s self-expression and self-identification and contributes to marginalization and minoritization,” said AMA Board Chair-Elect Sandra Adamson Fryhofer, M.D.

In short, Congress now wants to repeal a rule that 1) hasn’t gone into effect and 2) likely won’t ever go into effect, so it can take the phony “savings” associated with repealing something that won’t happen anyway and use it to “pay for” real increases in spending.
