Canadian eco-warriors suggest banning pick
up trucks, many fear USA will follow

Original Article

An online left-wing magazine in Canada is calling for the sale of pickup trucks to be banned unless the purchaser can prove that they really need one in their lives, and this has Americans worried that the United States could be next. In a piece published this week, Passage magazine managing editor Davide Mastracci argued that the long-term goal is to “shift away from relying on private vehicles entirely,” but that for now, he’d like to start with the iconic, American-created pickup truck. Why? Because of the alleged threat posed by climate change.“[D]rastically cutting emissions from the transportation sector is of the utmost importance for a successful climate strategy.

Pickup trucks accounted for 20% of all new vehicles sold in the U.S. last year, so banning pickup trucks ain't going to happen. Ford has already started to produce an all electric F-150 pick up. Even WOKE corporations aren't going to kill off 20% of they're sales to appease the global warming crowd.

Went on a road trip to DC a couple years ago. Pulled up to a Supermarket and in the entire parking lot there were exactly 3 pickups. Also noted that their parking places are really tiny. I suppose I would consider selling my Tundra is somebody can show me how to fit a full sheet of plywood into my Nissan 350Z.

Actually I have wanted a small high gas mileage low power pickup I can use as a commute vehicle to my job but has a truck bed in the back where I can fit the occasional sofa, washing machine, lawnmower, etc. I have no need to tow a two ton boat or trailer. But every year the car companies brag about how this or that vehicle is longer or wider or more powerful this year than last year. Remember the 1970's Toyota and Datsun pickups? An easy +30mpg. They were two feet shorter than the smallest pickup on the US market today. As a college student I was assigned to transport a palletized diesel engine back to the research lab. That little pickup did just fine. The new Ford Ranger is nearly the size of an F150. Forget it. The car companies are creating their own problems. I often think about getting a '70s Datsun pickup and restoring it. Simple engine. A nice carburetor. No computer. No cam sensor. No mass flow nothin'. No platinum anywhere in the vehicle. The only warning light on the dash was temperature and oil pressure. Those were the days.

Nations have often gone mad in a matter of months. The French abandoned their supposedly idealistic revolutionary project and turned it into a monstrous hell for a year between July 1793 and 1794. After the election of November 1860, in a matter of weeks, Americans went from thinking secession was taboo to visions of killing the greatest number of their fellow citizens on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. Mao’s China went from a failed communist state to the ninth circle of Dante’s Inferno, when he unleashed the Cultural Revolution in 1966.In the last six months, we have seen absurdities never quite witnessed in modern America.

Having indulged an unhealthy interest in human migration for decades, I’ve been intrigued by how the number of illegal immigrants that journalists cite as living in the United States never changes. For years on end, I’ve read that the population of America’s “undocumented” — a euphemism that seems to upbraid the receiving country’s bureaucrats for failing to issue its woefully overlooked residents the proper papers — is 11 million. With the artificial precision that often attends these unverifiable figures, which derive their authority from sheer repetition, some journalists will quote the number as 11.3 million.

House Democrats are trying to use a massive climate and infrastructure bill to change how Americans get around — by breaking states’ decades-old fondness for building highways. It would also represent an historic shift away from the roads-first approach to federal transportation spending that has reigned since Dwight Eisenhower created the Interstate Highway System.
