Right, wrong and a flower shop

Is there anyone who can say what is always right and always wrong and present an unchanging standard by which all behavior can be judged? I raise the question in light of last week’s non-ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, which declined for a second time to hear an appeal from a flower shop owner in Washington State.(Snip)What confuses many people is that the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Colorado baker who refused on the same religious grounds as Ms. Stutzman to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

Comments:

U. S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch wanted to hear the case but a minimum of four are required so it was sent back to the state supreme court for further consideration. Mr. Thomas makes clear there is a problem for individuals as well as nations when standards of right and wrong are abandoned because of where it leads, and boldly points out that among contributing factors to the collapse of empires and great nations is moral anarchy.

The only difference I see and which was cited in the CO case was the egregious bias against the baker by the state's pro-pervert bureaucrats. Apparently THAT was the cause for reversal of lower decisions against him. The SC justices weren't able to ignore the bias. Importantly, This isn't over but isn't it shameful that enormous amounts of time, money, and stress are needed to win back the rights we once fought for. If courts, elected officials, and the police will not defend us..... then Ruby Ridges are all that remain.

SCOTUS is making zero sense these days, if they hear one case regarding the issue of being forced to bake a cake why in the world would they not hear a case in which a florist was being forced to provide flowers? Coney Barrett and Kavanaugh have really been disappointments. They sure talked a good game but folded as soon as they attained what they wanted. There is no honor in pretending you are something you are not in order to achieve what you could not without being deceitful. Either they lied during the confirmation or they are lying now. You can’t have it both ways. I don’t know what in the world Washington DC does to a person when their firmly held beliefs are so easily abandoned which ironically are the very same ones they claimed were most important to them. Is there some coercion going on or it is the fact that they were never were what they claimed to be? Government rot along with ambitious but unprincipled individuals have created the all powerful Deep State. Clearly, few have the courage of their convictions or they simply never had any.

I have a growing suspicion that Roberts isn’t the only member of the court who is being blackmailed. Barrett and Kavanaugh have young children, as does Roberts. If the left can do what it has been doing in full public view for the last 5 years, imagine what it is doing behind the scenes.

Does anyone expect SCOTUS to take up each such case individually? They made a decision, and the courts are "obligated" to comply with the principle espoused by that decision. In the cake case, the primary issue was having to decorate and inscribe the cake. In the florist case, the issue is whether arranging flowers is "speech" that falls under the principle. Does selling a couple (one described as a longtime customer) flowers for their "wedding" constitute an endorsement of this marriage? Would she sell them the arrangements for a birthday party, for example? She's already established she'd sell them except for their wedding. Businesses, like it or not, operate under license from government. Part of that is that they operate in a non-discriminatory manner, i.e. provide their services to virtually anyone. They know and understand that when they establish a licensed business.

ROME — Luis Badilla, editor of the semi-official Vatican news aggregator Il Sismografo, said Wednesday that Pope Francis’ health situation is “severe” and when he returns from hospital he “will never be the same again.” In his sobering blog post, Badilla declares that journalists and commentators are not doing the pope any favors when they downplay the seriousness of his illness. There is a very significant detail that many “underestimate, ignore, or manipulate,” he writes, namely that “the disease that has affected Pope Francis is severe and degenerative” and “could also be chronic.”

CINCINNATI - Great apes, big cats and other animals are among creatures the Cincinnati zoo is prepping for the coronavirus vaccine later this summer, the zoo said Thursday. The zoo has begun training animals to accept the vaccine voluntarily, similar to training that’s already been done with some animals for treatments such as flu shots, said David Orban, the zoo’s director of animal sciences. (Snip) The training “allows those animals to voluntarily participate in their own preventative health care and eliminates the risks associated with anesthesia,” Orban said.(Snip) Giraffes have also been trained to offer their hooves for critical foot care.

WELLINGTON — The Ohio Republican Party estimates 20,000 to 25,000 people attended the “Save America” rally Saturday. Lorain County Republican Party Chairman David Arredondo said he'd personally estimated about 20,000 people were in attendance at former President Donald Trump’s first rally since leaving office. Arredondo said state Party Chair Bob Paduchik confirmed 20,000 to 25,000 attended the event held near the Lorain County Fairgrounds. He said it was a significant number of people, given the nine day notice attendees had for the event. What other personality--former president, rock star or actor--could pull this kind of crowd together on a short notice?” Arredondo said.

WASHINGTON — Two weeks after celebrating America’s near “independence” from the coronavirus, President Joe Biden is confronting the worrying reality of rising cases and deaths — and the limitations of his ability to combat the persistent vaccine hesitance responsible for the summer backslide. Cases of COVID-19 have tripled over the past three weeks, and hospitalizations and deaths are rising among unvaccinated people. While the rates are still sharply down from their January highs, officials are concerned by the reversing trendlines and what they consider needless illness and death. And cases are expected to continue to rise in coming weeks.

ROME — Pope Francis cracked down Friday on the spread of the old Latin Mass, reversing one of Pope Benedict XVI’s signature decisions in a major challenge to traditionalist Catholics who immediately decried it as an attack on the ancient liturgy. Francis reimposed restrictions on celebrating the Latin Mass that Benedict relaxed in 2007. The pontiff said he was taking action because Benedict’s reform had become a source of division in the church and been used as a tool by Catholics opposed to the Second Vatican Council, the 1960s meetings that modernized the liturgy. Francis issued a new law requiring individual bishops to approve celebrations of the old Mass
