A New York grand jury has indicted the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer with tax-related crimes that will be made public Thursday in court, people familiar with the matter said, marking the first criminal charges against the former president’s company since prosecutors began investigating it three years ago. The charges against the company and longtime CFO Allen Weisselberg are a blow to former President Donald Trump, who has fended off multiple criminal and civil probes during and after his presidency. But the initial charges won’t implicate Mr. Trump himself, his lawyer said...

Comments:

Here beginneth the avalanche. Trump crossed the Rubicon with his recent rally. Remember how many advocated going after the small fry to get convictions on the big fish...just watch how this is twisted in that fashion.

If there is a tax issue, why not audit the man's returns and send him a bill for any underpayments, like the IRS does with others. This is nothing but political persecution. The prosecutors would have an issue with the IRS, if their tax returns were audited.

Grand juries do not indict. Grand jury decides whether there is enough evidence to indict. If the GJ decides there is not enough evidence to indict, the Prosecutor cannot indict on such charges. Prosecutors sometimes put an intentionally weak case before the GJ and hope for a "No Bill" decision from the GJ. If the GJ finds there is enough evidence to indict on charge A but "No Bills" charge B, the prosecutor then decides whether to indict on charge B.

Will Vance claim that Weisselberg didn't pay taxes on some things? Sure. The defense will be that they were all legally allowed per some obscure tax rule per Weisselberg 's army of accountants and attorneys. I hope they can quote chapter and verse each rule and law and make Vance look like the partisan hack he is.

Cam Newton chose not to get vaccinated. Bill Belichick chose to keep a quarterback room that was. Life is all about choices. The New England Patriots stunned the sports world on Tuesday morning when Newton was released by the team. The timing caught everyone off guard as the decision went against every narrative that was in the public eye, as Newton and rookie Mac Jones were locked in a contested battle for the starting spot.

The Tim Tebow experiment in Jacksonville didn’t last long. The 34-year-old’s football career is presumably over now.

Joe Zich doesn't have one secret to staying on a baseball diamond at age 81. He has several, and he'll tell you all about them. It's the running two to three times a week, the stretching regimen, the tossing to a backstop two to three times a week with a rubber ball he bought from Dunham's Sports. He'll tell you all about the mechanics he uses on the mound, skills that have enabled him to keep pitching after all these years. To reiterate: "Lefty Joe" pitches for his baseball team. More and more informed observers are asking why, after 13+ years of the Federal Reserve’s increasingly aggressive monetary interventions, the benefits remain so skewed toward Wall Street over Main Street. The answer is simple: follow the money. Using its traditional tools, the Fed pumps money into the financial system, hoping it will make its way into the broader economy. But the Fed can’t control where the money goes or who financial institutions decide to lend to, and clearly, the primary beneficiaries have been investors and the ultra-rich.

On a scale of 1 to 10, she’d rate the city a 9. “We love what the city has to offer,” she said. But Blom, who is white, acknowledges that Milwaukee doesn’t provide everyone with the same opportunities. She recalled an instance years ago when a Black friend house sat for her. When he was outside the home one day, a passerby questioned his presence there.

President Joe Biden received praise from an unlikely source on Tuesday: Ann Coulter. Biden had just concluded his address to the nation on the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, ending a war that had lasted 20 years. The president has been criticized for failing to anticipate the rapid crumbling of Afghan security forces in the face of the Taliban’s advance. That caused a chaotic scene at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, where the U.S. military hurried to evacuate more than 123,000 Americans and Afghans despite being surrounded by the Taliban and ISIS-K.

I ask this question for two reasons: I have seen enough videos and read about enough officer-civilian interactions to know that the act of subduing a lethal threat requires several rounds. If an intruder entered my home and threatened my wife and child, I would shoot until I was able to ensure the target was immobilized. As to the first statement, there are plenty of examples of police officers firing multiple shots at a suspected threat. In the past year, the American public has been thoroughly able to parse through the shootings of criminals like Breonna Taylor and Antonio Brown, to name just two examples.
