Biden speech - live: President discusses
‘tough decisions’ after last
US troops leave Kabul

President Joe Biden will address the nation following the US withdrawal from a 20-year war in Afghanistan, after the last American troops departed from Kabul on Monday night. The nation’s longest war – in which nearly 50,000 Afghan civilians, 2,500 US service members, and thousands of Afghan military, police and Taliban fighters were killed – “has ended,” the president said in a statement on 30 August.

Comments:

Biden congratulates himself on the largest airlift in history. It s almost as big as the airlift to a January Bowl game. Typically, within minutes of hearing that our team has accepted an invitation to a bowl game, we get an email inviting us to purchase an airline ticket. hotel for three nights, a team dinner event, and game tickets. This year I expect to get QR codes sent to our phones for all these events. All well planned, and (usually) very well executed. Maybe the US military needs some football travel agents?

Who do they think they're fooling with their false arguments? They framed his talking points as based on two choices: get out or stay and escalate. Almost nobody thinks we should be staying. Everyone pretty much supported President Trump's plan to leave. It's a completely false argument. The entire issue is HOW we should leave. And everybody knows it. The way in which we left was disgraceful! It was completely contrary to our basic American character to never abandon ANY Americans behind. This was cowardly and disgusting And it will forever be a stain on our national character in general and our previously great military. And as far as I'm concerned, even impeaching Biden and relieving our military commanders wouldn't be sufficient accountability here. Use your own imagination what real American leaders and military heroes from an earlier era would do to adequately address this disgusting situation.

Bolshevik Biden being 'tough' and 'feisty'. Just remember the moto of every incompetent everywhere is "Its not my fault!". Its what they whine when they get into trouble. Biden is clearly in trouble, and he knows it. Hence the belligerence and bully tactics. Reporters need to start asking what meds he is taking, and who is administering them. His 'handlers' had him hyped up. He was high. The jerk needs to be removed from office. He is clearly unfit, and has failed to uphold his Oath of Office.

This Sept. 11, a diminished president will preside over a diminished nation. [Snip] Joe Biden was supposed to be the man of the hour: a calming presence exuding decency, moderation and trust. As a candidate, he sold himself as a transitional president, a fatherly figure in the mold of George H.W. Bush who would restore dignity and prudence to the Oval Office after the mendacity and chaos that came before. It’s why I voted for him, as did so many others who once tipped red. Instead, Biden has become the emblem of the hour: headstrong but shaky, ambitious but inept.

A meeting between Iowa City's Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the city's city council took a surprise turn — and became heated — Tuesday when Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague suggested reworking and even dismantling the body in its current form. The suggestion was spurred by Teague's disagreement with the commission's proposed budget — specifically, the $54,000 that would be dedicated to $1,000 monthly stipends for the group's nine commissioners. "Personally, I believe this council should really rethink and re-look at what our charge is for this commission,"

WASHINGTON — Two weeks after celebrating America’s near “independence” from the coronavirus, President Joe Biden is confronting the worrying reality of rising cases and deaths — and the limitations of his ability to combat the persistent vaccine hesitance responsible for the summer backslide. Cases of COVID-19 have tripled over the past three weeks, and hospitalizations and deaths are rising among unvaccinated people. While the rates are still sharply down from their January highs, officials are concerned by the reversing trendlines and what they consider needless illness and death. And cases are expected to continue to rise in coming weeks.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said Thursday on CNBC’s “Closing Bell” that the U.S. economy will have “several more months of rapid inflation.” Yellen said, “We will have several more months of rapid inflation. So I’m not saying that this is a one-month phenomenon. But I think over the medium term, we’ll see inflation decline back toward normal levels. But, of course, we have to keep a careful eye on it. Measures of inflation expectations, I think, still look quite well contained over the medium term. [Snip]. I believe fundamentally, you know, that this is something that will settle down.”

ROME — Pope Francis cracked down Friday on the spread of the old Latin Mass, reversing one of Pope Benedict XVI’s signature decisions in a major challenge to traditionalist Catholics who immediately decried it as an attack on the ancient liturgy. Francis reimposed restrictions on celebrating the Latin Mass that Benedict relaxed in 2007. The pontiff said he was taking action because Benedict’s reform had become a source of division in the church and been used as a tool by Catholics opposed to the Second Vatican Council, the 1960s meetings that modernized the liturgy. Francis issued a new law requiring individual bishops to approve celebrations of the old Mass
