Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts suffer
huge declines in membership

Original Article

America’s most iconic youth organizations–the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts of the USA–have been jolted by unprecedented one-year drops in membership, due partly to the pandemic, and partly to social trends that have been shrinking their ranks for decades. Membership for the BSA’s flagship Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA programs dropped from 1.97 million in 2019 to 1.12 million in 2020, a 43% plunge, according to figures provided to The Associated Press. Court records show membership has fallen further since then, to about 762,000. The Girl Scouts say their youth membership fell by nearly 30%, from about 1.4 million in 2019

Comments:

The focus on homosexuality and Marxism certainly didn't help, particularly in the case of the Boy Scouts. That's thanks to the legendary patriot Rex Tillerson.

The Boy Scouts used to stand for God and country. Then the homosexual nazi's decided they had to destroy them for that, and they succeeded. The Girl Scouts were taken over by radical pro-abortion lesbians years ago too. They never had a chance. It should be considered as child abuse to allow your child to participate in either group these days!!!

BSA embraced the homosexual agenda a few years ago. Odd when you consider that they were sued numerous times when a scoutmaster was caught fiddling one of his troops. Now they will hire gay scoutmasters openly. No wonder a lot of parents don’t want to entrust their boys to the BSA.

Once again, the leftists have destroyed good organizations that were an important part of producing strong, morally good, patriotic, independent, able and mentally fit young people. The leftists hate organizations like that. There may be some troops that still manage stick to the original tenets, but the national thrust towards homosexuality and other leftist doctrines has made me stop supporting them. I have been contacted by a few good friends to contribute in that last 5 years, and I have always regretfully declined, and because they are friends, explained why I could no longer support the Scouts Three of my nephews were Eagle Scouts, and I used to volunteer for hikes and to teach certain skills to the Scouts. Not any more, not since that evil Rex Tillerson forced homosexuality into the Scouts. I know much less about Girl Scouts, but I have heard that lesbians and leftists have taken over there and pushed feminism and abortion on demand to the girls. So, I stopped buying Girl Scout cookies, too.

Due to "social trends"? More like due to parents removing them to protect them from gay predators and leftist brainwashing.

I really do feel for those who put so much into being a Scout and being Scout leaders in years gone by. It's hard not to remember the great joy and honor they brought to so many young people of all socio-economic backgrounds. Life skills and survival tools were taught by doing, not just by books. A strong sense of "can-do" was engendered, as well as respect for nature, morality, and fellow troop members. And, underpinning all of that, the most important lesson of all: loving America and appreciating the great gift of being a citizen. Going down a path that was 180 degrees opposite of all that has destroyed something wonderful. To all former Scouts, I hope you can find a way of grieving for this institution that doesn't diminish anything you achieved with them.

The "They" Scouts of America and the "Them" Scouts of the USA have taken a dip. When they are forced, in the name of "Unity", to unite they will call themselves the "We" Scouts. Make sure you get the correct size in the upcoming "Unisex" uniforms. Cookies will still be available for sale, those Kamala "Heels Up" Harris type.

Beginning of January of 2020 the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ended their sponsoring relationship with the Boy Scouts of American. In the SF Bay Area members of the church accounted for 40% of scout membership. Opening the boy scouts to girls and welcoming gay leaders won’t make up for losing those numbers and the supporting funds. Sad. We were a scouting family. My husband earned his Eagle rank, his brothers were Eagles, his brother-in-Laws were Eagles, my four sons were Eagles and 8 of their cousins were Eagles. It was a great program.

As one poster has already pointed out, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was, I believe, the largest sponsoring organization in the US. My father-in-law and grandfather-in-law were both professional scouters. Being an Eagle Scout was an important goal in our family. We gave generously. The church ended its association when the BSA decided it would be just ducky to send our sons and grandsons on overnight hikes with homosexuals.

The problem with BSA, was that the leftists saw BOY in the name. Anything with BOY in the name they see as being toxic. Girl scouts are losing because feminists only see them as selling cookies which implies girls should be in the kitchen which is why they wanted to merge with the Boy Scouts.

South Carolina-based Trail Life USA has been going strong since well before it was obvious that BSA was headed to the dark side. From the very first, they were and are unashamedly Christ-centered and have very impressive leadership. I have had the pleasure of attending some events. What a fine and proudly American program they provide!! BSA was faltering before the molestation of boys and questionable integrity of the leadership was quite so public. They were acting “woke” back in the 90’s when we were a scouting family. Then, you would have to have core problems to have a phony like Rex Tillerson at the helm.

I was creeped out in the 1970s to find out there were "professional" scouts. They were the guys that showed up at rubber chicken dinners and were actually paid to do it. Up to that point all the leaders we knew were volunteers who did it out of love for Scouting and the kids. I never felt right about the BSA after that. Now with all the gay stuff they are pretty much a footnote to history. And completely predictable.

All the posters are right on but the article completely ignores the main reason for scouting's collapse: moral corruption! I dropped out in the 1950's because both the scoutmaster and the assistant were pedophiles. My father was the first Eagle in his state, two of my sons-in-law were Eagles, and my two grandsons are Eagles. All this is over now. Democrats destroy everything they touch. Always.

The Boy Scouts were a vital link between my son and me, and I will always treasure memories of campouts, hikes, scout camp, pack trips, and the culmination of it all—a ten-day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in 2004. It’s ironic that abuse lawsuits are another large factor in the decline of the Scouts at the same time that the policy apparatus has done all it can to facilitate further abuse. Assuming the Scouts eventually crater, one wonders what will happen to Philmont and other similar camps.

Scouting has taken a big hit because it is no longer what it was when we grew up. The programs in large part have been "urbanized" and those who live in more rural areas outside of the cities have been marginalized and those persons still holding to "traditional values" no longer have the influence to affect the direction of the program. In the middle of the 1950's the demographics reached a point where there were more persons living in the cities than on the farm. This trend has continued to the point where those living outside the cities have made the decision for their children to pursue other opportunities to spend their time. The biggest number of children who are engaged in scouting do so while they are young. Once they reach middle school the numbers drop massively until very few actually see it to the Eagle award in Boy Scouting or the Gold Award in Girl Scouting which require a deep commitment on the part of the parents to see them through.
