Several counties in Oregon on May 18 voted to consider joining the state of Idaho, which is part of a long-shot movement to break away from the state that has long been dominated by politicians in Portland. Voters in Malheur, Sherman, Grant, Baker, and Lake counties approved various measures that require county officials to take steps to look into moving the Idaho border west to incorporate the counties. The grassroots group Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho is aiming to have the eastern counties—which are mostly rural—join Idaho because they believe they would be better off with Idaho’s more conservative political leadership.

The Manchurian Candidate movie, based on a novel by Richard Condon, was once denounced by a British critic as a “cheaply paranoid fantasy.” Roger Ebert, reviewing the 1962 movie, acknowledged that it touched a chord despite being unrealistic:
"The title of 'The Manchurian Candidate' has entered everyday speech as shorthand for a brainwashed sleeper…That such programming is impossible has not prevented it from being absorbed as fact."

The last few weeks have not been a happy time for the royalty which once ruled the Republican Party.
Liz Cheney lost her leadership role in the House Republican Conference. Mitt Romney was not met with overwhelming acclaim at the Utah Republican Convention. And former President George W. Bush did an interview which again demonstrated his irrelevance to both his party and the country.
The GOP’s royal families – the Bushes, Romneys and Cheneys -- view the party as their patrimony. Romney is the son of a governor who ran for president in 1964.

By a vote of 217-209, the House rejected a bid to bring a bill to the floor that would have applied sanctions against the terror group Hamas. The sanctions targeted foreign individuals and governments that assist Hamas or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Both organizations are terror groups so designated by the State Department.
The bill had been introduced by Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) and would have reauthorized the Palestinian International Terrorism Support Prevention Act. The act passed the House last session but failed to make it to the Senate floor.

Joe Biden and other political leaders are doing everything they can to get the vaccine stragglers to do their patriotic, civic duty and get vaccinated against the coronavirus. Ohio has begun a million-dollar lottery to encourage people to take the vaccine. Other states are giving out free beer for getting jabbed or other enticements.
But Joe Biden thinks that strong-arming the American people into getting jabbed will be effective. The president gave a talk about progress against the virus at the White House on Monday, (Snip) Using fear to get people vaccinated won’t work. Those fearful of serious illness or death have almost all been inoculated by now.
Did you hear that Joe Biden’s Department of Justice wanted the Supreme Court to rule that police could search Americans’ homes for firearms — and confiscate them — without a warrant?
In the case of Caniglia vs. Strom, this issue was in play. Had SCOTUS ruled that police could do that, your Second Amendment rights would have been in grave jeopardy.

I’ve always had great respect for our legal system. It’s as good as any of which I’m aware. No, I’m not naive. I’m fully aware that every institution depends on the competence and integrity of those involved and that means sometimes decisions are rendered that are wrong -- muddy thinking and sometimes corrupt judges; self-seeking prosecutors; incompetent counsel; bad and poorly written laws; false testimony by liars -- all contribute now and then to unjust resolutions. But in recent years, my faith has been even more badly shaken by continued and obvious corruption all the way down the line.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN- On Wednesday, May 12th, attorneys for former Minneapolis Police Officer Tou Thao filed a motion asking the court to sanction prosecutors for failing to disclose information about the coercion of a specific witness. [Tweet] According to reports, Bob Paule, one of Thao’s attorneys claimed that the Hennepin County medical examiner, Dr. Andrew Baker, was coerced to include “neck compression” in his findings and that the prosecutors knew of it.
The motion also asked the judge to kick the attorney general off of the case for prosecutorial misconduct. Reportedly, activity had picked up for the impending joint trial this coming August of former Minneapolis Police Officers
