Do those yard signs signal virtue or stupidity?

Original Article

On a recent walk, I came across a neighborhood littered with the yard sign in this photo. It seems the provocative platitudes we’ve seen on bumper stickers for a century have now taken root in our yards. And for the same reason: To tell the world that the sign-planter holds wonderful beliefs that he’s willing to impose upon and attribute to the rest of his family. It’s surely not because the sign-planter thinks he’s persuading anyone of the rightness of his position, as if the neighbors reading the sign will say to themselves, “Gee, ‘Democracy dies in darkness’ is a great point. I’d never thought of it that way.”

People across the street from me until a month ago had a sign that said "Hate has no place here." I never asked them about it but I wondered do they think our neighborhood is full of haters. I don't think so. Virtue signaling is very important. (unless you signal the wrong kind of virtue, such as supporting the police)

Ah, the joys of virtue signaling. Bet it makes them happy when their neighbors pat them on the back. No doubt more than a few would rather kick them in the pants. Its all rather hypocritical. Science is real, except when it is politicized, and then its fake. Democracy dies in the darkness. Actually it dies at the point of a gun. It also dies from ignorance and dishonesty. Black live do matter. Tell the blacks that. Many of their problems are self inflicted. Btw, all lives matter, and to deny that is dishonest. Affordable healthcare is a right. Hope you like paying for everyone's free healthcare. Here's the tax bill. No human is illegal. Bet you wouldn't house any of those illegals. Don't be dishonest. Water if life. Doesn't matter. Climate Change is still a scam. Again, here's your tax bill. Hope you like your loss of rights. All in the name of saving the planet. Kindness is everything. Except when anyone disagrees with you, and then you beat people over the head with your beliefs. Not very kind of you. Again, don't be dishonest.

And part of what's going on is that no matter what YOU think, you can't put it on a sign in your yard or on your car. If you do, you know what will happen to you. So you stay silent. And that's the point. Then all those folks think they're the majority when they're not and you don't know you are.

That sign presents a kerygma for the woke religion, many parts of which are nonsense statements able to be distorted into whatever shape serves the present needs of whichever wokester is using them. For example -- "Science is real." Yeah, so are stupidity, inaccuracy, ambiguity, and duplicity. Science is a systematic process governed by disciplines used to seek and identify truths. Science is not the end product (truth), itself. Sure, science is real. But Transgenderism is not. Nor is Critical Race Theory. And "no human being is illegal", without context, is completely meaningless. Because humans can and do commit illegal acts, a common example of which is to sneak across a nation's legitimate borders or overstay their official permission to be there. We call those "illegal aliens"...

Six possible reasons the Democrats

A recent Gallup poll showed that most Americans think it’s time to move on from the pandemic. But not the Democrats. Democrats say by a 71-29% margin that we still should not “live normal lives”, but instead should “try to stay at home.” That’s despite the fact that the COVID death rate in America is down nearly 90%, the new cases are down about 65%, over half of Americans have been vaccinated (and over 80% of the vulnerable ones) by vaccines shown to be 95% effective, and even the redoubtable (or perhaps doubtable) Dr. Fauci says we can go out now. So what gives?
Why do black African immigrants do

Millions of sub-Saharan blacks seek to immigrate to America. They apparently haven’t gotten the memo that this is a wretched land of systemic anti-black racism. When they get here, they’re strangers in a strange land. English is usually not their first language. Their skin color tends to be very black, not the lighter color of American blacks who have an average of about 25% white blood in them. Despite those handicaps, they do better than American-born blacks. Compared to American-born blacks, their income is about a third higher, their poverty rates are significantly lower, their educational achievement is higher, and their marriage rate is double.

Satan may not be much more to you than a medieval caricature, looming large only in the minds of 17th century Puritans. The European Enlightenment, after all, disinfected such bogeymen with the light of Reason. But one is tempted to ask, to what end? As Goethe wryly observed in Faust, thanks to The Enlightenment “The Evil One is gone, the evil ones remain.” Who is this dude Satan?

Early in the pandemic, Dr. Fauci said, “there’s no reason to be walking around wearing a mask.” He said masks might cause more harm than good. In the kind of pirouette for which he’s now famous, Fauci later told us all to wear masks indoors and out. Fauci himself starting wearing two at a time. (Why not three?) His baffled boss, Joe Biden, wears them for Zoom calls – even though he’s been fully vaccinated. As it turned out, Fauci lied about his reason for initially telling us not to wear masks. The real reason was that he wanted to save them for doctors such as himself.

The Center for Disease Control announced in February that schools could safely reopen, and that it was “critical” that they do so. They said the risk of COVID transmission in schools was minimal — even if teachers were not vaccinated — and the damage to children by remaining closed was maximal. Experience in the schools that have opened bears that out. There have not been cases of widespread transmission of COVID in reopened schools. That’s undoubtedly because children are nearly immune to COVID. And their teachers retire long before they reach the COVID-vulnerable post-65 age group. That CDC announcement that teachers, vaccinated or not, should return to work was two months ago

COVID shutdowns championed by U.S. governors and D.C. bureaucrats are responsible for destroying nearly 40% of small businesses since the virus was unleashed on the world—and we know now that it was for little to no damned good reason. A study by the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences revealed recently that shutdown orders made little to no difference in COVID’s impact.
