Brearley is a private all-girls school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. Tuition costs $54,000 a year and prospective families apparently have to take an “anti-racism pledge” to be considered for admission. However, one family has had enough of the indoctrination machine and penned an eloquent letter explaining their reason for removing their daughter.(Snip). In short, we no longer believe that Brearley’s administration and Board of Trustees have any of our children’s best interests at heart.(Snip) It cannot be stated strongly enough that Brearley’s obsession with race must stop.

FTA: “We have today in our country, from both political parties, and at all levels of government, the most unwise and unvirtuous leaders in our nation’s history. Schools like Brearley are supposed to be the training grounds for those leaders. Our nation will not survive a generation of leadership even more poorly educated than we have now, nor will we survive a generation of students taught to hate its own country and despise its history.” This brave father’s perspective may be a reality check applicable to this country’s public schools as well as state and private colleges.

Subtract enough 54 thousand dollar stipends and pretty soon the snooty ''teaching staff'' will have to find read jobs. And some more NY prime real estate will go begging. This is no help whatever to the miserable US public schools debacle (which continues unabated).

Mr. Gutman is a well-reasoned and talented writer. I have to agree with everything he had to say. I trust the parents who read his treatise on the bigotry of Brearley.

Maybe this is the start of pushback against those who promote this critical race theory garbage. I can just see The NY Times newsroom snowflakes in a lather over this, that is, if they read this.

Mr. Gutmann is sending society an SOS call that critical race theory is capsizing the boat. I dont recall a more powerfully worded statement on a particular subject. The only issue I have with Mr. Gutmann is has assertion that both political parties are to blame. Sorry, but critical race theory is the creation of the progressive democrat party.

If you don't display bigotry or mention race in teaching then it's a start. When Brearley mentioned an anti-racism pledge then it was on the schools mind. I have zero tolerance for people who throw the word racist around like a sledge hammer. It tells me it's what's on their mind when they speak. Why talk about it so why should I be subjected or my family to the constant barrage of the word.

It is so hypocritical for these big city private schools to be whining about racism. Most of them exist because parents don't want their kids in public schools, where they might come into contact with "black and brown" people. They are "elite" in the sense that they serve the ultra-wealthy, who can afford not only the tuition, but also can make big donations every year.

Let's hope he starts a stampede, but I'm not optimistic. Those high-priced NYC schools are feeder-schools for the Ivies, and many of the parents are singularly focused on getting their little darlings into an Ivy League university regardless of the consequences to their children.

Wonderful and courageous letter. But Mr. Gutman will undoubtedly face personal attacks by the cancel culture. The other parents must join in and counter attack the Board and the director of the school. . . .And demand the firing of the diversity officer, which will result in a lawsuit against the school. So, it will be a long and messy fight but a necessary one.
