The Texas House on Thursday gave an initial OK to a bill that would allow handguns to be carried without a permit, marking a win for gun rights activists who have for years pushed the measure at the Legislature but a blow to El Paso Democrats who have been fighting for gun safety measures since the 2019 massacre in their hometown. (snip) House Bill 1927, spearheaded by state Rep. Matt Schaefer, R-Tyler, would nix the requirement for Texas residents to obtain a license to carry handguns if they’re not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a gun.

All well and good, but the immediate concern is the endless flood of illegal aliens streaming into Texas. Why is no one pressing the feckless governor to seal the border?

Criminals of all stripes carry and will carry, laws or no laws.
Being instructed on exactly what happens to you as soon as you either pull your fire arm or drill some felon, unless you are blaque, BLM,, cartel, or democraptic scum, is a good thing.
Ah, to hell with it all. Welcome to madmaxworld led by a team of superannuated deamoncrap traitors.

Good. The restrictions on concealed carry are in conflict with the 2nd amendment. The expectation that there are law abiding citizens in any gathering with firearms and skill in their use is a better protection than the fact that the police always arrive at an event long after it is over.

Another state getting on the right side of the 2nd Amendment. Kansas has had it for six years, and like concealed carry with a permit, there were no bad ramifications.
The truth is that the bad folks have always been carrying guns, and the laws only disarmed those who weren't going to do anything except defend themselves in the event of being attacked.
Good luck, Texas. Best wishes for passing this and joining the other, I think, twenty or twenty one states which have done this. All without problems.
An important side benefit is that when more people see that any honest citizen being permitted to go armed if they chose it causes NO increase in crime or accidents, that ALL gun control is bogus.

Criminals are allowed to carry guns until they are caught, it should not be criminal for law-abiding citizens to carry guns to protect themselves. When the criminals don't know who is carrying, it helps make us all safer.
As to Ribicon's comment. The Mexico border is an "international" border, therefore the federal government's responsibility. In theory, Texas should be able to close the border when the federal government abdicates its responsibility. In this case it would be considered interfering with foreign affairs because it is the federal administration's foreign affairs plan to destroy the country and that overrides state's citizens' right to survive,

Ya know, I'm a firm believer in the 2A and carry...we have open carry here in Indiana and I appreciate it, but, I never do that...it's like wearing a 2A hat or shirt, or a shirt from from a gun manufacturer (not that I don't have a few), but my basic sense of self-preservation dictates that I not openly advertise I'm armed...situational awareness and all...if some no good dude decides to 'take down' somewhere I'm located, I would bet his first shot would be at the good guy wearing his gun openly...that would give me an extra second or two to draw mine and put him down..no shooting guns out of hands (a la Bloomie Biden)...just do what has to be done to protect myself, my family, or others...that being said, in this Red State, there isn't a lot of that stuff like in 'gun free' democrap dominated cites...

Good points, #6. Years ago, when being armed was still illegal in my state, I fairly often wore an NRA hat, or a S&W hat, or shirt, etc. But nowdays, when I am always legally armed, I never want to advertise anything that might give me a tactical disadvantage. So, blending in is important.
And open carry, while perfectly legal, and I have seen a few folks doing it, is tactically disadvantageous and scares the chickens.

I agree with #6 and #7. While we have open carry here in The Free Republic of Texas, I have never carried openly; always concealed and wherever it is legal. I think by carrying openly, the armed citizen negates his most important tactical advantage: surprise. Most criminals are not expecting return fire while committing crimes. As #7 stated: open carry places one at a tactical disadvantage. The honest citizen does not get to choose the time and place of an armed encounter. That is the advantage of the criminal. Open carry says to the criminal, "Hey, I'm a threat, shoot me first!" Don't give him that.

See, the States DO NOT need to institute this. If you can read basic English, our United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights already explain this quite nicely...

Texas' resident mensa, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, expressed reservations about the bill by saying that cops don't like the idea that anyone walking down the street is carrying a gun because they don't know if they have a permit or not. Well, the cops wouldn't know until after an incident anyway, unless they have x-ray vision to look into your wallet or purse. Please Lord, help save us from Texas "leadership."
