The image of Francis slapping his way free from the clutches of the admirer was an instant hit on social media. A personal apology followed. “We lose patience many times,” Francis confessed. “It happens to me too. I apologize for the bad example given yesterday,” the head of the Catholic church said before celebrating Mass at the Vatican.

AUSTIN, Texas — The University Interscholastic League has pushed the first games of the Texas high school football season for its biggest districts to the end of September due to the coronavirus. The modifications to the 2020-2021 UIL calendar and updated COVID-19 risk mitigation guidelines are set to take effect August 1st.
UIL's updated plan provides a delay for schools in highly-populated metro areas, primarily conferences 5A-6A, given the challenges with COVID-19 those communities are facing. (snip) Meanwhile, smaller school districts that are 1A-4A have an opportunity to start seasons on schedule.
ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Police Department released its plan for enforcing Governor Greg Abbott's mandatory mask order. "In an effort to be transparent and supportive of our citizens, the City Manager and I are releasing my enforcement protocols," said Chief Stan Standridge. "It is very important to note that the Governor’s Executive Order does not authorize detention for mask violations. This makes enforcement difficult at best, so we need our citizens to voluntarily comply." According to the order signed Thursday, masks are mandatory in any county with 20 or more active cases of COVID-19.
ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons University is investigating a social media post by a student that it called "deeply disappointing and unacceptable." The post on Tik Tok shows a girl wearing a Hardin-Simmons shirt. HSU acknowledged she is a student. In the video, she reveals how she thinks people react when a black person kills another black person or a black person kills a white person versus when a white person kills a black person. University officials tweeted a a statement Tuesday evening that said “the message shared by this student is not reflective of the Christian values of our institution.” Correction*

IRAN: The commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been promoting what appears to be a notorious fake bomb-detecting device as a coronavirus detector. Maj. Gen. Hossein Salami, who replaced Qassem Soleimani as head of Iran’s asymmetric warfare unit after his assassination by a US drone in Iraq in January, presented the device on state TV on Wednesday, claiming that it could detect COVID-19 “within seconds.” The model shown is almost identical in appearance to the famously useless plastic and metal fake bomb-detecting device that was first sold by convicted British fraudster James McCormick to Iraqi security forces.
ABILENE, Texas — The City of Abilene will begin enforcing the limited shelter-in-place more aggressively this week. City Manager Robert Hanna said if non-essential businesses don't shut down, the City may have to pull their certificate of occupancy, which means they'd lose their power meter.
"Please do what we're asking you to do," Hanna said. "We're not doing this because we want to hurt y'all. We're not doing this because we want to hurt the economy. We're doing this because it's a public emergency, and we need people to take it seriously."

I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. The millions of Americans who were paying attention throughout the 2020 election campaign all became painfully aware of the fact that Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities were slipping and slipping fast. His wife, as the person closest to him, should have been the one to call the campaign quits in order to reduce stress on the man.
Instead, apparently so anxious to become the First Lady by any means necessary, Mrs. Biden continued to push her failing husband’s campaign forward as if he were mentally qualified.

On the other hand, the Pope's reaction was not one of patience or understanding. He could have said a few words to her instead of slapping her hand and walking away with a hateful scowl on his face.
