South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem said Monday she'll sign a state legislature bill that would ban transgender athletes from competing in women's sports â after creating a conservative uproar last week by vetoing the measure. Noem, considered a top potential 2024 presidential candidate, said at a press conference that she'll sign the bill after legislators make what she considers minor changes â limiting the ban to high school and elementary schools for male athletes who identify as female athletes.

If she had signed the bill as first presented the NCAA would have banished all University teams in So. Dakota from playing in other States and disqualified those teams from playing in post season games. She was damned if she didn't sign it and triple damned if she did sign it.

#1, well if the NCAA thinks trannys competing against women is fine and dandy, then I'll add them to the long, long (and getting longer everyday) list of businesses I don't support.

The folks who feel they need to rearrange their parts, what are they, .0000000000000insignificant of the population? They make a stink inversely proportional to their number, it seems.

Noem was on Fox last night and clearly (at least to me) explained what changes she wanted. The bill was too broad in scope and not specific enough regarding the birth sex of athletes.
She should have better explained her position last week when she declined to sign. It would have saved many people all the screeching and howling and high blood pressure in the meantime.

Disagree with poster. It was Tucker Carlson whose performance was pathetic as he kept talking over the Governor as she patiently tried to convey the nuances of her position in relation to the ill-advised South Dakota bill. My respect for Governor Noem went WAY up as I heard her articulate her critical thinking on this most-important issue. Run, Kristi, run.

I trust this lady's judgement. She is not a politician.

How about just stating flatly that biological men will not be allowed to compete against women at any level of organized sport from K thru post-doctoral and beyond and then stating clearly that no court ruling or attempt to impose this tranny insanity will be obeyed let alone enforced in the state of South Dakota. And then how about we see the same thing announced in every red state in the country. How about our "leaders" take a stand and really and truly announce that enough is enough - we will not recognize this idiocy or allow outside authorities to force it upon us. Blue states have been doing this kind of thing with sanctuary cities and drug enforcement for years and no one has come down on them.
Of course such an act would require courage and courage is a virtue - one of the most important - and these days virtue is in short supply.

How about telling the NCAA to go and stuff it? How hard would it be for patriotic states to form their own intercollegiate sports leagues? Let the NCAA be the sports organization for perverts - - and let the PatriotCAA be the sports organization for everyone else.
Noem = No guts.

Why not in ALL athletic events? Limiting it to HS and lower is a retreat that is not a good thing, not necessary.
This disappoints me in Noem, a great deal.

HEHEHE
The term "minor fixes" goes a long way. Specially if you're a cat.

She overrode 2 of the 4 sections in the original bill. Those are not "minor fixes", but cowardice. Our nation is in desperate straits now precisely because of this sort of craven behavior by politicians.

This entirely ends my interest in Noem going to higher office. No spine, no will to fight when fighting is needed.
Another useless politician who can be "conservative" when it's easy but folds up like a $5 umbrella when the winds start blowing.

I listened to her entire press conference and was rather frustrated. Here's my take: She is being incredibly specific in order to prevent the forces against women to take her to a corner in court. She avoids certain words and phrases; this may be legalistic but I think she has good reasons. Else why would Herschel Walker and many other athletes stand with her?
I won't give up on her over this. I think the lady has her priorities right and she will not let the enemy gain a foothold from which to crucify her or this cause. Let's not crucify her from the right.

Many longtime posters are showing their ignorance in this thread. Noem is on our side and she is a clear thinker. Wise up, all you naysayers.

IRT some of the above replies:
I'm sure she'd love to tell the NCAA to stuff it, but the law as written would have allowed any male who was denied women's team membership to sue - annually. Her legal advisors encouraged her not to take on the fight the current language would lead to. Additionally, Title IX legislation could have allowed the NCAA to ban women's sports in the state altogether. Her Plan B is to introduce a new bill that addresses nothing beyond high school sports which are entirely within the purview of the state.
If this isn't good enough for those here, please tell us for whom you're waiting to carry on the fight. As for me, I'm still with her.

I cannot believe so many here got reeled in by the obvious manipulative headlines to tarnish this really sharp conservative Governor. Please read the bill. Tucker kept trying to force the narrative that she caved to the NCAA. He made no effort to understand why this was a very tricky thing for SD. The only tiny criticism I have is she should have explained more clearly the exact repercussions of accepting the bill as written.
I like her still and wish she were my Governor.

Kristi is a-scared of the NCAA - - and she vows to "Defend Title IX." She made a cringing, pathetic appearance on Tucker's show last night. Another RINO cowers in the weeds - - and bites the dust.
