Amazon is telling its delivery drivers to sign a consent form that allows the company to track them based on biometric data as "a condition of delivering Amazon packages," Motherboard's Lauren Kaori Gurley reported on Tuesday. Thousands of drivers across the US must sign the "biometric consent" paperwork this week, and if they don't they'll lose their jobs, according to Motherboard. The form, which was viewed by the outlet and published in the report, states that Amazon would be allowed to use "on-board safety camera technology which collects your photograph for the purposes of confirming your identity and connecting you

Give up your privacy for a pay check? This will end up in the courts in a heartbeat!

You have to expectations of privacy when at work or when driving a company owned vehicle. I don't like it. But thats where we are with technology.
I will say that since my company started using GPS tracking, my safety score has gone thru the roof. I set my cruise control at the speed limit.....period. I get paid by the hour and the company won't pay my traffic tickets.

I don't see anything fundamentally wrong or illegal with this. It will probably improve safety. And it could protect a driver who is falsely accused of something like theft.
However, it may not improve productivity. People resent being micromanaged. "You took a 16 minute coffee break; you're supposed to take only a 15 minute one." That gets corrosive very quickly.
I once worked for a company where the hourly workers had to clock in and out at break time. Not a happy bunch!

FTA: "The technology specifically would track a driver's location and movement, like how many miles they drive, when they brake and turn, and how fast they are driving."
Not sure which drivers they're talking about. If the driver is an employee, all of these data are already being collected by the trucks systems. If it is the contract drivers, this is going to require putting them in private vehicles. If, in fact, Amazon just wants the data from the snippet above, Amazon could get an OBD plug-in (like insurance companies are using), or even an app on a cell phone (which Amazon contract drivers already have). Amazon is lying.
This article seem to state that they want a camera focused on the driver.

Funny thing is that should I pick a random Amazon "executive" and decide to track him he won't even realize he's being tracked. No signature required. Just look over your shoulder. Oops nothing there. Just a shadow but ...

Some posted here that nobody "needs" Amazon. Sadly, that isn't true. My husband has a side business doing electronics-related work. Since Fry's closed, there is no dependable place to get cheap and consistent electronic parts. If you do find them, they are usually several times the cost you can get them on Amazon (not to mention the time and cost with ever increasing gas prices to drive all the way across town -- often 60+ mile round trips -- to pick them up). He couldn't do his business or make a profit if it wasn't for Amazon.
We have always used our profits from this side business to support conservatively moral and political causes. I'm sure this wouldn't make Amazon happy, but as long as they are getting their money they keep on shipping to us.

And they think showing ID to vote is a hardship, or something difficult to do?
I suspect with the vaccine card, you now have an effective ID system.
After all, did you read the disclosure on who they can share information with? It included any "contractors" they use.

There were a million cameras where I worked in the hospital. I always assumed someone was watching me. No, I didn't like it but that's the way it is in places like that.

Amazon is a private company (albeit owned by a very evil and sleazy man).
But they are a private company. They have the right to set the rules for their employees. Nobody is forced to work for them. If you don't like the new rules, quit and go find another job. I would have a very serious problem with this is this were the government, but it's not. It's a private company.
Every year around October, Amazon runs TV ads to hire extra workers for their distribution centers and to do deliveries in this area (around Austin, TX). It is like watching a freak show as they show so many of their current employees. I'm not just talking "Austin keep it weird" freaky -- these people are scary freaky. Clearly these are people who are extremely lucky to have someone like Amazon to hire them and hide them away in a warehouse somewhere. Supposedly it's a terrible place to work, but since I doubt many of them could work anywhere else, I'm guessing most of them will just grin and bare these new rules!

I once used to purchase books through Bezos' company. I resisted their pushing, irritating "Prime" stuff that you have to fight through to just purchase a book.
I have stopped using it entirely, now seek our other book sellers to get my books, although I was once very unhappy to order a book from some other company....and have it delivered by Amazon. THAT was very irritating, and I will never use that book seller again.

I am pretty sure this is referring to people who Amazon claims are independent contractors, not employees. In my mind, this moves them over the line to being employees.

Oh relax guys. It's only a itty bitty little ole tracking chip placed in your hand or your forehead so that you can neither buy nor sell without it. (See Rev. 13)

Now is an ideal time for Amazon workers to form their union. Not that I like unions but Bezos needs the lesson.

Some people need tracking but this is getting more outragous every day.
I have never bought anything from Amazon, but they do a lot of business in my neighborhood.
