News website BuzzFeed has laid off 47 HuffPost workers, the majority of them journalists, less than a month after purchasing the rival company. Jonah Peretti, BuzzFeed’s chief executive, announced the move in a virtual staff meeting on Tuesday, telling staffers the layoffs would “fast-track the path to profitability” for HuffPost. The job cuts amount to nearly 30% of HuffPost’s journalists, at a time when most news outlets across the US are shrinking or facing closure.

HuffPost and BuzzFeed actually employ large numbers of journalists? Puh-lease. Where did they get their degrees from? The University of Nothing? I don't doubt that there might be a few journalists there but the idea that these sites are staffed by a battery of qualified journalists is beyond my belief capacity.
These days, almost any paid hack can call themselves a journalist and people won't even bother to check their credentials.

Only 30%? What are the other 125 still doing, other than making each other pink lattes and avocado toast and complaining about their student loans?

I remember going to the Huff Post when it first started, and I commented on something which ended up getting massive number of hateful comments (just liberals being liberals), and from then on referred to it as the HatePost, because that's what they ended up being.

No real reporters were harmed by this firing. Other workers, if they have something on the ball, will find a new workplace with reportedly less toxicity.
Former owner Arianna Huffington, however, should rot in hell. She made a ton of money on the free work of writers who just wanted to get published during the Obama recession, and paid no one. While you get what you pay for, she is a sanctimonious witch who beat Heels Up Harris in one way--the money man she married came out as gay.

I'm absolutely shocked. I'm shocked that Nancy Pelosi didn't include liberal websites in her $1.9 Trillion give-away bill.
