Billy Brown, patriarch of "Alaskan Bush People," has died at the age of 68. Reps for the show confirmed his passing to Fox News on Monday. "We are devastated to hear of Billy Brown’s sudden passing. He has been part of the Discovery family for years - a trailblazer, a lovely man and most definitely one of a kind," the statement read. "Our heart is with his family and those that knew him and loved him as they deal with this devastating loss." Brown appeared in the show's first eight seasons as the father of the self-sufficient live-off-the-land family alongside

I'm sorry the guy's dead, but this wasn't a real show was it? I watched about 20 minutes of it when it first came on and found it hard to believe these people even knew each other much less were related to each other. One of them even had an English accent.
The other show...Alaska's Last Frontier is a bit better. The funny thing is when they say they have to catch a million salmon, kill ten dozen deer, elk, bear to put in the freezer or they'll starve to death, a Safeway store is about 20 miles from their homestead so I don't know why they're so worried about.
Sorry, I'm done with being lied to and am beginning to get quite cynical in my old age.

Billy and his family were known to be grifters, pled guilty to Alaska Funds fraud, for pretending to be in Alaska while they were living in Washington.
The show - Alaskan Bush People - was fake, fake, fake! Any hunter or fisherman would recognize that fact. Their children pretended not to know how to use a cell phone, but had apple watches and computer accounts on various sites. They supposedly lived off the land, but in fact, lived off their neighbors and friends.
The show is so bad, I enjoy watching it, to catalog the fake stuff. The show, one could conclude, was Grifter Billy's final act of thievery. But his 7 children will continue the show in the same fashion - fake, fake, fake!

#2, I’ve noticed on other shows, the “actors” use current slang and cliches. This is interesting when they’ve been living “xxx miles [north/south] from the Arctic Circle for a long period of time,
Latest example was a participant starting the conversation with “So.”
It seems they are being enlightened and educated some way. Maybe they aren’t as off the beaten path as they would have us believe.

Alaska, the Last Frontier is no better. Just about everyone on there is worth millions, yet the narrator would have us believe they have to hunt and fish for their food, while the town of Homer is a short distance away. It really is a show about how millionaires can afford to live ff the grid, while having heavy equipment, such as excavators, to assist them. Fake! Fake! Fake!
For a look at real Alaskan homesteaders, watch The Last Alaskans.

I enjoy the kilchers and the "last frontier", but their constant droning on about "the homestead" is a little hard to take seriously when every other shot show power lines and the old man has more equipment than a large construction company.

I wonder if his mustache will end up in the Smithsonian?
I did watch this show a few times while on business travel, and was not too impressed with it. Reality shows n general stink, and this one really really did. They never explained who was feeding the film crew.
