Google has threatened to remove its search engine from Australia over the nation's attempt to make the tech giant share royalties with news publishers.
Australia is introducing a world-first law to make Google, Facebook and potentially other tech companies pay media outlets for their news content.
But the US firms have fought back, warning the law would make them withdraw some of their services.
Australian PM Scott Morrison said lawmakers would not yield to "threats".
Though Australia is far from Google's largest market, the proposed news code is seen as a possible global test case for how governments could seek to regulate big tech firms.

Dump Google! They track your every move and not just where you go on the internet. If you have Google Maps you can turn your phone off and they can still track you everywhere you go.

You mean they may be prompted to seek a search engine that isn't curated to death by some agenda-driven twentysomethings?

It also plays into Google's hands because China has been on their backs about providing services to Australia in the first place. They just hadn't figured out a way to deny it to AUS without appearing to cave in to China.

Let Google corner China's market and the rest of the world can return to good 'ole capitalism and use multiple search engines and services that are non-Google related.

When you alienate half of your customers in favor of the underclass of society, it can only end badly. Ask hollywood, the pro sports teams and ESPN how well that worked for them. We crippled Fox within a matter of a couple of days. Google, Fakebook and the Tweetybird are in our crosshairs now.

We dumped Google for Duckduckgo and Mozilla Firefox for Brave. Both work exceptionally well and don't track you..This is our first month minus Amazon Prime too. Don't miss it. I'm spending less money!

I'm trying to use another search engine. It's not easy switching but will give it a try. I like BING. Although, they're owned by Microsoft. Though still better than Google.

This is a typical power grab by google...America saved Australis's bum during the WWII war... perhaps it's now time for Australia to save ours....by tweaking google's nose they threw down the gauntlet... slapped google in the face...good for them...maybe some enterprising young tech dude can get a private server for Australia... is that what it's called?... server?...all I know is I canceled google as my search engine... and I use Bing instead...and thank God for Newsmax and their Gregg Kelly... he's fabulous... and yes... I have read President Trump's "The Art Of The Deal"... and that's why I'm so confident about his comeback...

Oh, Please, Google, make good on that threat! Please, please, please! This would be a golden opportunity to expose Google as the toothless tiger that it really is. Google can't survive in an environment of free competition. At least, it would have to change it's business model in a way that would cripple it's totalitarian control of the flow of information. When Google first emerged it was novel, and convenient for computer users to search the internet for the things that they wanted. But while people enjoyed it's convenience, it seeped into every crevice of modern life, locking out competitors. Australia will show the way to a beautiful future of a world without the heavy hand of Google's manipulative algorithms.

I use Bing for 'ordinary' searches, DuckDuckGo for anything even remotely political. Bing works fine and you get a really beautiful photo every day to brighten up your computer.
