A columnist for The New York Times has published an op-ed that claims the Looney Tunes skunk Pepe Le Pew 'normalized rape culture.'
Charles M. Blow made his critical comments in an article titled 'Six Seuss Books Bore a Bias' published in the Grey Lady in the wake of news that certain beloved Dr. Suess children's books were getting 'cancelled' for racist depictions.
In the article, Blow wrote: 'Some of the first cartoons I can remember included Pepé Le Pew, who normalized rape culture; Speedy Gonzales, whose friends helped popularize the corrosive stereotype of the drunk and lethargic Mexicans.

I wonder if Mr. Blow has ever considered whether vulgar rap music lyrics might have somehow contributed to the rape culture in the inner city. Nope. It was Pepe Le Pew all along.

Will Elmer Fudd and Daffy Duck go next? Stuttering and lisping.
And that Road Runner keeps saying 'beep, beep'. It must somehow offend someone, somewhere.

The demoncraps have their own Le Pétomane in Eric Stallwall. Harpo Marx makes Pepe look bashful. I have more important stuff to worry about.

#4 The Mandalorian' Star Gina Carano was fired for listing her preferred pronoun as “boop/bob/beep” (like R2D2). Trans found it mocking. I'm not sure about how fictional robots felt. Her career is over.
Trivia: Pepe Le Pew is based on Pépé le Moko from Algiers (1938) - staring the brilliant and beautiful Hedy Lamarr who also invented Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping. She never got a penny because if wasn't useful for another 50 years and she died in poverty. If only Bluetooth were invented in 1940.

Allowing boys who claim to be girls into ladies' locker rooms and showers would probably be more dangerous than a lovesick, stalking cartoon skunk. Rap music and drag queen story hour sessions are hunky-dorry, in the eyes of liberals.
In other news, Wile E. Coyote never influenced a single child to drop an anvil on a roadrunner.

Didn't the object of Pepe's affection always just squirm away from his advances? I don't remember him ever succeeding. And I think the Mexican stereotype was well-known far before Speedy Gonzales came around.

Never liked the character, but it did help me perfect the stereotypical French accent I had so much fun with in school. I still use it occasionally.

It's just a matter of time. The only cartoons that will be permitted will be ones that show diversity...i.e. gay. The antagonist will always be some rich white figure.

My God! Everyone reads too much into these things. Pepe LePew is an amorous skunk who pursues a cat that looks like a skunk. She of course, has no interest in a smelly skunk because she’s a cat! The situations are hilarious and Mel Blanc's voice of Pepe with the French accent makes it even funnier. Can’t we enjoy these cartoons for what they are meant to be—funny! Our education system has turned people with skulls full of mush into the 17th century Puritans of Massachusetts. They are unhappy people to begin with because they had unhappy childhoods and want to make the rest of us as miserable as they are. As they say, “Misery loves company!”

Pepe Le Pew normalized rape culture? What kind of sick mind sees that in a cartoon? The whole Pepe Le Pew cartoon was based on the premise of misidentification. A skunk with a French accent falls in love with a cat that accidently had white paint down it's back. Talk about jumping the shark.

This is really simple. Blow is a "useful idiot" stirring up dissent and deflecting attention from real issues. He isn't smart enough to think of this nonsense himself; He has "community organizers" telling him what to write.

"...drunk and lethargic Mexicans..." Really? Speedy was never drunk nor lethargic. Being the Fastest Mouse in all Mexico requires WORK to 'stay on top of your game,' so calling Speedy a drunk and lethargic, lazy is in itself a lie and a stereotype of all Mexicans. So Mr. Blow: YOU'RE the one who's RACIST.
BTW - I'm Hispanic and I've never found Speedy offensive. In fact he outwits his enemies with his cunning speed. Speedy's been the target of previous attempts to cancel him - but from what I understand he's revered in Mexican culture just because he manages to outwit attackers.
These are imaginary cartoon characters that are the figments of some long-gone animator's ideas. We've popularized them because we've grown up watching these cartoons since we were kids. This DOESN'T mean we need to be childish or stupid enough to imitate their behavior.
You're a DOOFUS Mr. Blow.
