Black activists are coming out strongly against a growing narrative among conservatives that equates the deadly siege on the U.S. Capitol with last summer's Black Lives Matter protests of racial injustice. Republican lawmakers defending President Donald Trump made the comparison again Wednesday while building their case against impeachment and accused Democrats of being hypocrites with selective outrage. Their comments mark the latest effort by Trump and the GOP to misrepresent the Black Lives Matter movement as an extremist, violent faction tied to anarchists. “You can moan and groan, but he was far more explicit about his calls for peace than some of

Comments:

Good point. BLM violence destroyed tens of millions of dollars in property, resulted in dozens of deaths, and lasted on and off for 9 months (and will undoubtedly resume). No comparison.

In both instances at the Antifa/BLM riots or at the Capitol riots some of the people taking part in the rioting were violating the law. There is no legitimate legal defense for them doing that, so they should be identified, arrested, and prosecuted.

Actually, BLM/ANTIFA violence is far worse. It permeates the weak cities and states in which it originated, giving rise to more radicalized people in every strata. Their movement is also based on the false claim that racism is embedded in society and that all whites are racists by default. Their violence and invasive education tactics are at the root of America's issue. So long as they believe their line of crap, they will feel justified to do whatever it takes to defeat Others. That includes protests, riots, destruction of private and government property, and stealing elections by whatever means are necessary. We live in a moment the Romans faced 2000 years ago when a weak and feckless Senate decided to give all power to Julius Cesar. We know the final outcome of that brilliant move.

The Capitol protest was primarily violent by the unnamed Capitol officer (or was he an FBI or other, perhaps not even government person just brought it for the asssassination?), with a few rowdy folks and a few antifa infiltrators who broke windows. BLM/antifa thugs burned down entire city blocks, and shot down people and killed them. For example, the retired police officer called to an alarm at a friend's store in St. Louis, murdered by antifa.

The two could not be FURTHER from each other. BLM is based on LIES. "Hands up, don't shoot!" was a lie. Systemic racism is a lie. Unfair treatment of blacks in the criminal justice system (on a broad scale) is a lie. Sure, there are a few bad cops, but the MAIN reason black males at a disproportionate rate is because black males exhibit almost the EXACT same disproportionate number of violent crimes. The MAGA crowd (likely NOT the instigators of the lawlessness in D.C.) is there because of a TRUTH. The Constitution is being castrated, democrats weaponized the IRS, CIA, FBI and state level SOS offices, and freedom of speech and freedom to assemble are being curtailed illegally. Even if both broke the law, BLM did MUCH MORE damage for LIES than the MAGA crowd did... for the TRUTH. That matters.

Y'all don't get it. In libby-lala-land, defending yourself by comparing something you're accused of to a similar (or far worse) action committed by a protected species is called "whataboutism". It means your comparison is inadmissible and invalid because they are talking about YOU, not anyone else. And besides, the actions of others were totally justified while what you did was the worst thing in the history of the republic. It's just another way of saying, "It's OK when we do it."

No comparison. The BLM/Antifa riots were far worse, far more destructive, and far more frequent and widespread. Plus absolutely nobody has been held to account for the arson, looting and other rampant lawbreaking of those riots.

Was this supposed to be a news item, or an editorial? Why is it a misrepresentation? Ask the founders of BLM, they've said who they are and what they're after.

To compare leans towards identifying similarities. What we need to do more is CONTRAST the Capitol siege and the BLM riots, to highlight how the propagandists on the Left are inverting reality. The MAGA march was a mostly peaceful protest, while the BLM riots were destructive and violent.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Members of the Church of Satan are grieving the destruction of a historic “Halloween House” north of New York City that authorities say was set ablaze this week by an unidentified arsonist. The historic home, built in 1900, served as an Addams Family-style hub for local adherents of the religion, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports. One member of the church likened the arson to a terrorist attack. The home on South Clinton Street was decorated with devil sculptures. A hearse long sat in its driveway, and a sign over the garage read “Devil's Garage.” The exotic house served

America seems to have gone mad. It still is the world’s richest and most powerful country, with the oldest continuous government on earth. Yet it is in deep crisis, and divided between hostile camps that reject each other’s legitimacy. Paradoxically, what made America strong also makes it inherently fragile. Joshua Mitchell, a professor of government at Georgetown University, presents a cogent diagnosis of America’s dark night of the soul in a remarkable new book. A Chinese acquaintance quips: “Now you are having your own Cultural Revolution.” In fact, the criticism and self-criticism sessions imposed on corporate employees and school personnel

Ensigns bearing Confederate and neo-Nazi imagery defined the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. But for Vietnamese Americans, it's the sight of a defunct flag — representing a country that ceased to exist nearly a half-century ago — that brought up painful questions about identity, trauma and the legacy of U.S. imperialism. The yellow-and-red-striped banners of the former South Vietnam flew above crowds of rioters all over the Capitol grounds. Many of the flag carriers were Vietnamese Americans who, in support of President Donald Trump, have often used the emblem to express nostalgia for a lost home and opposition to communism.

SAN FRANCISCO — A California coalition is proposing legislation to boost taxes on wealthy multinational corporations to raise more than $2 billion a year to house tens of thousands of homeless people, addressing what has become a worsening problem in the country's most populous state. Supporters say Assembly Bill 71 would reinvent California's approach to solving homelessness — providing for the first time an ongoing, sufficient state funding source to get people off the streets. Opponents say it would contribute to the perception that California is hostile to business. “Our state is facing an unprecedented homelessness crisis that's on the

The Capitol Police have over 2,000 sworn officers. A police force dedicated to protecting Capitol Hill has more personnel in its service than the police forces of most of the country. Congress' private cops are the 19th largest police force in the country. It’s a larger force than the police forces of Atlanta, Baltimore, Denver, or Milwaukee with a massive $460 million budget. It’s the only legislative federal force in the country that is answerable exclusively to Congress. While Democrats advocated defunding the police, their private police force budget shot up from $375 million in 2016 to $460 million in 2020. After the Capitol Hill riot, expect it to go higher. Much higher.
