soaring prices as Californians move out

Record numbers of residents have been leaving California in recent years, but in 2020 the growth of remote work, the lure of cheaper housing and a summer of unprecedented wildfires has accelerated the trend. As a result, the moving business in San Francisco’s Bay Area is booming, but the surge has come with its own set of problems. Moving trucks are hard to find, prices to get out of the Bay are being pushed sky-high, and the supply side of the market – with high starting costs and because movers are required to obtain state licenses – has been slow

I've moved several times in the last 5 years. I only use movers who have been around many years with decent Yelp reviews.
Yes, Yelp has its own problems but no one woth 5 year old reviews has been stealing trucks and still in business.

San Francisco Bay Area. A difficult, expensive place to live for as long as I can remember, it has gotten worse. The rest of we Californians have long considered it to be a foreign country. A separate entity.
Not everyone knows how to move house sensibly. Sounds as though many of them live in the Bay Area. The UK’s left-wing Guardian is obviously interested. Takes their minds off their troubles at home… I’ve never known a Brit who wasn’t crazy about San Francisco...

Those who get past the clickbait headline and actually read the article will find that most of the grousing is about UHaul truck rates. The reason is one that has long been in existance. A one-way trip to a distant destination with no return trip to match up with it results in (1) an imbalance of truck inventory, with fewer trucks in one place and thus (2) a higher one-way price. That kind of pricing differential is in place all over the country.
As for staffed movers, they are and always have been expensive. Those who try to lowball and use rogue operations do so at their own risk. This is a typical UK tabloid article.

The California demigod politicians have failed in their fundamental jobs in government. But gee don’t they feel self righteous and noble while pontificating about societal perfection through bringing down the fist on our internal enemies, the deplorables.

Not one word of explanation in this article of why all these fools who voted in the democrat communists to rule over them with an iron fist are leaving in droves. Instead of staying and voting out the democrat communists they chose flee.. Trouble is they move to other places and like a rapidly spreading cancer vote in another bunch of democrat communists to repeat their destructive, totalitarian policies. No sympathy at all for these feckless fools. Trouble is they ruin everything for the rest of us.

IMO every one of those people moving out of California is a Democrat vote moving into another area to destroy it

I wonder how many of those moving trucks are ending up in Texas or Colorado. The locust are coming destroying everything in their wake.

Like the way the author managed to slip in the sob story of the poor moving guy having to work so hard under such terrible environmental conditions.

There is no logic in believing Democrats would leave a Democrat-run state. Think about it. Seriously. They have no reason to be unhappy.
Incidentally, President Trump got more votes in California this election than any other Republican before him including Ronald Reagan.
You ask how that can happen? Two things. All 5 million plus registered Republicans voted for him plus some others. As for the record number of votes for Biden, that looks as fishy to me (from the point of view of bogus registrations) as anything going on in any other state.

The story concealed the main reason for the conditions causing people to leave: Ridiculous taxes, oppressive government, unsanitary city streets and parks, and high crime.

Actually, #7, it's just the opposite. Most of those moving out are basically conservatives who can't stand it any more, and many of those are native-born!

Too bad that they can't be quarantined until they renounce their leftist voting patterns, to prevent them from wrecking the rest of the country, like they have wrecked Cali.

They had already ruined New Mexico when I left there in 2008. Don't let them do it to your state.

That's a wonderful, logical, sensible theory, #10. I mean that sincerely, not being sarcastic.
But the sad reality is that as lots and lots of Cali folks have moved to eastern Colorado, the state has moved steadily leftward. Sorry, the facts on the ground belie your excellent theory. Apparently lots of leftists don't like the results of what has happened in Cali, and have moved....and taken their destructive leftist voting patterns with them.
I sure wish you were right. It would be great to leave all those leftists in the Lefty Places and let the good, sensible folks move out to Free America and make it stronger.....but that is not what is happening.
