Macy’s canceled their nearly 160-year-old tradition of hosting Santa Claus in their midtown Manhattan store because of COVID-19. More than a quarter of a million people typically shuffle through the store’s elaborate Santaland each Christmas season, but the close quarters of the attraction have rendered it impossible in the age of social distancing, according to The Associated Press. Santa will also not be appearing in the Macy’s in Chicago or San Francisco, though he will be making an appearance at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, which has also had to undergo adjustments to comply with health guidelines. New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) launched the Live Free or Die committee this week, marking a significant step toward laying the foundation for a White House bid in 2024.
Named after New Hampshire’s motto, Sununu’s Live Free or Die Committee is a 501(c)(4) organization that allows him to raise unlimited funds as he gauges interest from donors.
Sununu confirmed the creation of his committee on Wednesday, telling NBC News he is “excited to talk about the successes that we’ve had in New Hampshire.”

A new government report reveals that the total amount of American soil owned by Chinese investors is nearly twice as large as the entirety of New York City.
As the New York Post reports, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealed in last month’s report on foreign-held land that Chinese buyers currently own at least 384,235 of American land. By contrast, the full expanse of New York City covers just 193,700 acres. Even Bill Gates’ total land ownership is dwarfed by China’s, with just 270,000 acres.
Of all the foreign-owned farmland in the U.S., China owns roughly 0.9 percent, or about $1.2 billion worth of land, according to the USDA report.
