Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden holds a narrow lead over President Trump, according to a new Harvard CAPS-Harris poll, released exclusively to The Hill one day before the first presidential debate. Forty-seven percent of likely voters said they would vote for Biden if the election were held today, while 45 percent said they would back Trump. The survey marks a 3-point improvement for Trump and a 2-point decline for Biden from the last poll that was conducted in August. Biden also led with likely voters who said they were unsure of who they were going to vote for, with 52

On Tuesday — National Voter Registration Day — the Auraria campus in downtown Denver was practically barren, so uninhabited that a shout of “Are you registered to vote?” easily cleared the plexiglass shield in front of New Era Colorado’s tent and echoed down the walkways. Gone were pre-pandemic features like circus performers and walls lined with fresh goodies for the taking, temptations that in years past lured hordes of college students headed to class to the youth civic engagement group’s voter-registration booths. Instead, a select few New Era employees — all masked — hit the university pavement to help young

NEW YORK — Coronavirus continues to spread “at an alarming rate” in several New York City neighborhoods, the city health department said Sunday, a day before it is expected to decide whether to shut down private schools and nonessential businesses there. The COVID infection rate in Gravesend/Homecrest is 6.75%, up from 6% last week; 5.34% in Midwood, up from 4.95%; and 4.41% in Borough Park, up from 3.53%, according to the Health Department. It also flagged Kew Gardens, Edgemere/Far Rockaway, Bensonhurst/Mapleton, Gerritsen Beach/Homecrest/Sheepshead Bay and Flatlands/Midwood as areas of concern. “Seven of the eight neighborhoods saw increases even from the

Jordan Williams, 18, recently posted a video on TikTok encouraging fellow Gen Zers to get matching tattoos as a sign of rebellion. She stumbled across the symbol, a letter Z with a line through the center, in the comment section of another user's video. She thought the image seemed simple enough and universal enough to be a good fit, so she issued a call to action to her 2,000 followers. "OK Gen Z listen up!" Williams captioned a video of herself staring into the camera wearing a black hoodie. "What if, now hear me out...We all got a matching tattoo.

On Sept. 21, Steve Guest, rapid response director for the Republic National Committee, posted on Twitter an eight-second Trump campaign clip of a speech by Joe Biden with the comment, "Joe Biden completely botches the Pledge of Allegiance." The clip was viewed more than 1.5 million times and generated comments regarding Biden's mental state. Some who shared the quick clip claimed Biden made a gaffe, or "botched" the pledge, including Dinesh D'Souza, The Federalist, PJ Media and Fox News' Sean Hannity. Other posts took a more hesitant approach with the claim, saying it "appears" Biden may have goofed. It was

Less than six weeks before the election, one of the most profound disappointments among some of Joe Biden’s supporters is that he doesn’t even seem to be trying. If some Democrats are correct, crushing “The Donald” should have been easy. After all (according to them), President Trump is an impeached, sex-offending, tax-evading, white supremacist, coronavirus-mismanaging, sexist, racist, Islamophobic, homophobic, misogynistic, sexist liar who is wildly unpopular. And Biden has long showed a hefty advantage in the polls. If all of that’s true, then Biden need do little more than show up, and winning should be a piece of cake

As Democratic senators begin mapping out how they will wield their limited procedural weapons in the fight over President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, they are grappling with a central question: How much legitimacy do they give his candidate?
With little power to actually derail Trump’s pick, Democrats are coming under considerable pressure from their activist base to use every tactic at their disposal to not just throw sand in the gears of the confirmation fight, but to portray the consideration of expected nominee Amy Coney Barrett as a farce that shouldn’t even occur. In a sense, they are playing the

If calling a “lid" enters the mainstream American lexicon, this will be the week it all started. Joe Biden called a lid — the arcane term reporters use when a politician is done traveling for the day — at 1:02 p.m. Friday; 9:20 a.m. Thursday; 9:22 a.m. Tuesday and 8:34 a.m. Saturday. Biden’s early turn-ins provoked the Twitter set, professionally nervous Democrats (OK, bedwetters) and, notably, Donald Trump to scratch their heads or rain down ridicule. “Did you see he did a ‘lid’ this morning again?” Trump asked Thursday evening in Jacksonville, Fla., pausing to offer a definition for the

New York's attorney general on Friday recommended the New York Police Department get out of the business of routine traffic enforcement, a radical change she said would prevent encounters like one last year in the Bronx that escalated quickly and ended with an officer fatally shooting a motorist. Attorney General Letitia James, who acts as a special prosecutor appointed to investigate certain police killings, argued that traffic stops for minor infractions often end in violence and that Allan Feliz's death last October after he was pulled over for a seat belt violation “further underscores the need for this change.” James’

"CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King delivered a scolding of sorts to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Friday over what King called Pelosi's "egregious" attacks against President Trump and his administration. King pressed Pelosi on her statements that Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden should not debate President Trump. The speaker stood behind her remarks, but stressed that she expected the former vice president ot be "excellent" in the three one-on-one showdowns. (Tweet) "The president has no fidelity to fact or truth and actually, in his comments the last few days, no fidelity to the Constitution of the United States," Pelosi

WASHINGTON — Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg became the first woman to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol Friday. She may also be the only person to lie in state who has had a mourner do calisthenics in front of their casket. Bryant Johnson, Ginsburg's longtime trainer, dropped and gave the Justice a quick trio of push-ups when it was his turn to approach the flag-draped coffin shortly after 10:30 a.m. ABC7 spoke with Johnson last year about his relationship with Justice Ginsburg, who he trained for more than 20 years. He said in November that she was back to

WILMINGTON, Del. — The final stretch of a presidential campaign is typically a nonstop mix of travel, caffeine and adrenaline. But as the worst pandemic in a century bears down on the United States, Joe Biden is taking a lower key approach. Since his Aug. 11 selection of California Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate, Biden has had 22 days where he either didn’t make public appearances, held only virtual fundraisers or ventured from his Delaware home solely for church, according to an Associated Press analysis of his schedules. He made 12 visits outside of Delaware during that period

Some time in October the pollsters will fear looking like fools again and show that Old Joe's lead was a house of cards. Then it will be too late for campaigning.
