The meeting was slated as a Minneapolis City Council study session on police reform. But for much of the two-hour meeting, council members told police Chief Medaria Arradondo that their constituents are seeing and hearing street racing which sometimes results in crashes, brazen daylight carjackings, robberies, assaults and shootings. And they asked Arradondo what the department is doing about it.

Not really all that long ago, Detroit was a beautiful and prosperous city. People tend to think their material culture will always just "be there." But it's more fragile than meets the eye. Do we need more examples? People lose the sense of civic pride and responsibility. Rudy Giuliani was prescient when he enforced the Broken Windows theory and enforced the laws against all kinds and extents of vandalism. Not even half a century later, NYC is sliding toward the precipice. Truly puzzling is the idea that adults, educated people, could not imagine (since everyone is saying --au current-- re-imagine this and that) the consequences of eliminating the civil servants charged with enforcing the laws, which the people's legislators wrote, in order to provide order, peace and safety. pathetic and stupid

It’s simple. When you prosecute and demonize cops who do their job you have to expect police to reduce their efforts and the risks they take. George Floyd died of a heart attack caused by a drug overdose. The police didn’t do anything wrong. The proof is in the autopsy, yet 4 officers are fired and on trial. The Democratic politicians are using Floyd’s death for political purposes and the cops are screwed. They no it and that’s why they are avoiding risks.

Poster 14: you will never hear the names of the actual Democrat Generals behind the scenes, from a liberal mouthpiece. Look at what happened to Gingrich. He spoke a truth, he go muzzled. And Soros is about the level of a one or two star general. He's in the field, and making local strategy, but the real big wigs are out of sight. If anything blows up in their face, they don't want it coming back on them.

President Trump hit at Joe Biden’s record on trade during his speech at the Republican National Convention, accusing him of sending working class jobs overseas to China while building his political career on the support of blue collar workers. “For forty-seven years, Joe Biden took the donations of blue collar workers, gave them hugs and even kisses,” Trump said, to laughter from the crowd assembled on the front lawn of the White House. Biden “told them he felt their pain, then voted to send their jobs to China.”

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Seventy-four people are now facing federal charges related to protests that have rocked Portland, Oregon, for three months since George Floyd was killed. The misdemeanor and felony charges include assaults on federal officers, arson and damaging federal property. Billy Williams, the U.S. attorney for Oregon, said in a statement Thursday that “violent agitators” had “hijacked” the First Amendment. Portland has been gripped by nightly protests since the police killing of Floyd in Minneapolis.

Peggy Noonan joined the crowd turning on George W. Bush in what I thought was (in Noonan’s case) a grossly unfair manner in 2008. It wasn’t just unfair, it was cowardly. I wrote critically about one of Noonan’s weekly Wall Street Journal columns in which she identified with the public disapproval of Bush that April in “Season of the witch.” Having turned on George W. Bush, Noonan moved on to support the election of Barack Obama later that year. Noonan all but endorsed Obama in her 2008 column “Obama and the runaway train.”

Scott’s post about Peggy Noonan, and in particular her writing about Kamala Harris, reminded me of Noonan’s treatment of another candidate for Vice President, Sarah Palin. Noonan’s utterances about Palin in 2008, which I described here, fit well within the unfortunate pattern Scott describes. Noonan’s first published take on Palin was basically the Republican Party line at the time —that the nominee represents “a real and present danger to the American left” which therefore needs to “kill” her. That’s what she wrote in the Wall Street Journal. But it wasn’t what she believed. How do we know?
