Washington mayor moves to

The mayor of US capital Washington on Wednesday asked a committee studying the fate of its monuments to figures linked to slavery and racism to focus on "contextualizing, not removing" federal memorials, after the White House slammed its recommendations as "ludicrous." The "DC Faces" group had recommended that seven monuments, including the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial and a statue of Christopher Columbus, should be "removed, renamed or contextualized." It also wants a change in the names of some 50 city schools and parks named after controversial historical figures who "encouraged the oppression of African Americans and other communities of color

Comments:

The group's criteria for 'canceling' historical figures would cover just about anyone and everyone.

I would guess that if such as thing as a phonebook still exists the last names of Washington and Jefferson would fill up a few pages in the D.C. directory alone. Are all these people going to change their names?

Pardon my language, but what in the frick does “contextualize” mean? These people are complete lunatics. Evil, ignorant fools. If they don’t like America, maybe they need to try to find somewhere better to live. If any other country will take them. George Washington is the father of our country. The greatest American ever. Jefferson and Franklin are eclipsed only by Lincoln as great Americans. They are two of the most important Founders. In case that bozo Bowser hasn’t noticed, she is mayor of Washington. The faces of Washington, Jefferson and Franklin appear on our currency and coinage. Washington is on Mt. Rushmore. They’re there for a reason. This kind of thing has to stop. This is the greatest country in the world. No other nation in modern history has ever done so much for its people and for ,any other peoples and nations of the world as we have.

Way too late. Bowser put the our heritage on the block knowing exactly what would occur. She is so damn far out of touch it is no wonder the city is a mess. Teamed up with her prevention of police protection for members of congress after the President's acceptance speech, she should be run out of town on a rail. Trash, cheap political trash.

I saw nothing in the article saying the mayor was doing anything to quell or calm the rage of most citizens over her proposal to remove historic statues. I didn't want to spent a lot of time on Yahoo anyway, seeing as they are openly biased against anything GOP or Trump or consevative.

Long over due to let it be known, if you hate so many things about our great nation then leave. Our borders keep unwanted people out not our people in. You're free to go anywhere. You will not alter any of our monuments or degrade the things our men and women fought and died to preserve. Why on earth stay somewhere you apparently are so miserable? Idea? Since communism seems to be more to your liking, there is always Europe. Take a cab losers.

Don't know. But I would think that the Washington Monument is on Federal property and safe from the whims of DC politicians. I've always though that the French Broad river should be renamed. Am worried that all these woke types will find out that I have a Master Card and DVDs of Gone With the Wind and Zulu.

A real leader would be out in public trying to quell the violence not condoning it. Mayor Bowser recently mentioned that our country is on the verge of a "race war". Thanks to leaders like her, she may be right.

Except for schools, everything on the list is federal property under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service which is a branch of the Department of the Interior. Bow wow has absolutely no authority, knows it, has been called out on it and is now trying to backpedal. If she truly fears a coming race war, the first thing she should do is get rid of the extremely divisive BLM “mural” in front of the WH which she funded with taxpayer cash and helped to paint.

The first COVID-19 death associated with a massive biker rally in Sturgis, South Dakota has been reported weeks after the event attracted more than 400,000 vehicles and drew widespread concern from public health officials. The death was reported by Minnesota Department of Health Infectious Disease Director Kris Ehresmann at a Wednesday briefing. Minnesota — South Dakota's neighbor to the east — is tracking an ongoing outbreak of 50 cases tied to the August event, Ehresmann said. A Minnesota man who died was in his 60s and had underlying health conditions. The 50-case outbreak only includes people who attended the event, Ehresmann said

WASHINGTON — Joe Biden has finally emerged from his basement — and Democrats are relieved. After months of near-seclusion at his home in Delaware, the Democratic nominee has given two well-crafted speeches in two weeks: an eloquent and hopeful acceptance speech at his party’s convention and a forceful attack Monday on President Trump over the boiling issue of urban violence. So far, so good — but two speeches do not a winning campaign make. Biden needs to do much more in the two months before election day, pandemic or not. Democrats told top advisers to presidential nominee Joe Biden that President Donald Trump's "law and order" message and images of disorder during anti-racism protests risked undermining Biden in mid-western swing states, reported The Washington Post Wednesday. According to the report, Biden's campaign was caught off-guard by unrest last week in Kenosha, Minnesota, after the shooting of Black man Jacob Blake by police and violence between pro-Trump and Black Lives Matter supporters in Portland, Oregon. It swiftly responded by scheduling a series of events for the presidential nominee in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Wisconsin and in Michigan. The Republicans narrowly flipped Pennsylvania

While the election isn’t until November 3, it looks like lots of people and businesses are, in a sense, “voting” early — with their feet. Now it appears we are seeing a blue-city exodus as well. (Snip) Noticeably absent among liberal-city priorities is peace, safety, order and respect for private property. LOS ANGELES – As it became the first state to cross the sad milestone of 700,000 cases of COVID-19, California has embarked on a new tiered plan for reopening businesses that has some crying foul. Critics say the system doesn't take into account that some businesses can operate safely even in counties with relatively high numbers of COVID-cases. And it hits some businesses harder than others, even when it appears they perform similar services. "While certain businesses are allowed to open ... many others continue to be greatly limited, hampered or even closed," said San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, who held

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden dodged questions from the press on Monday after addressing civil unrest publicly for the first time, providing ammunition for supporters of President Trump to claim he is going out of his way to avoid the media. Roughly 63 days out from Election Day, Biden delivered a speech in Pittsburgh in which he accused Trump of being incapable of preventing the violence that's sprouted across multiple cities this summer. Upon concluding his speech, the former vice president declined questions from reporters in the room, but he did acknowledge their presence at one point. "There's not a
