The mayor of US capital Washington on Wednesday asked a committee studying the fate of its monuments to figures linked to slavery and racism to focus on "contextualizing, not removing" federal memorials, after the White House slammed its recommendations as "ludicrous." The "DC Faces" group had recommended that seven monuments, including the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial and a statue of Christopher Columbus, should be "removed, renamed or contextualized." It also wants a change in the names of some 50 city schools and parks named after controversial historical figures who "encouraged the oppression of African Americans and other communities of color

I would guess that if such as thing as a phonebook still exists the last names of Washington and Jefferson would fill up a few pages in the D.C. directory alone. Are all these people going to change their names?

Pardon my language, but what in the frick does “contextualize” mean? These people are complete lunatics. Evil, ignorant fools. If they don’t like America, maybe they need to try to find somewhere better to live. If any other country will take them. George Washington is the father of our country. The greatest American ever. Jefferson and Franklin are eclipsed only by Lincoln as great Americans. They are two of the most important Founders. In case that bozo Bowser hasn’t noticed, she is mayor of Washington. The faces of Washington, Jefferson and Franklin appear on our currency and coinage. Washington is on Mt. Rushmore. They’re there for a reason. This kind of thing has to stop. This is the greatest country in the world. No other nation in modern history has ever done so much for its people and for ,any other peoples and nations of the world as we have.

Way too late. Bowser put the our heritage on the block knowing exactly what would occur. She is so damn far out of touch it is no wonder the city is a mess. Teamed up with her prevention of police protection for members of congress after the President's acceptance speech, she should be run out of town on a rail. Trash, cheap political trash.

I saw nothing in the article saying the mayor was doing anything to quell or calm the rage of most citizens over her proposal to remove historic statues. I didn't want to spent a lot of time on Yahoo anyway, seeing as they are openly biased against anything GOP or Trump or consevative.

Long over due to let it be known, if you hate so many things about our great nation then leave. Our borders keep unwanted people out not our people in. You're free to go anywhere. You will not alter any of our monuments or degrade the things our men and women fought and died to preserve. Why on earth stay somewhere you apparently are so miserable? Idea? Since communism seems to be more to your liking, there is always Europe. Take a cab losers.

Anybody care about my feelings ? The AFA sent out an email today to send to our senators and rep. My ending note was If these monuments come down, then so does MLK Jr. He was a womanizer. To quote Greta "How dare you ?"

Don't know. But I would think that the Washington Monument is on Federal property and safe from the whims of DC politicians. I've always though that the French Broad river should be renamed. Am worried that all these woke types will find out that I have a Master Card and DVDs of Gone With the Wind and Zulu.

Congress needs to get rid of these damned racist crazies. DC shouldn't even be thinking about wrecking public monuments.

I wish Abe Lincoln made all the freed slaves go back to Africa. Blacks simply do not mix well with any group of a different color.

A real leader would be out in public trying to quell the violence not condoning it. Mayor Bowser recently mentioned that our country is on the verge of a "race war". Thanks to leaders like her, she may be right.

Except for schools, everything on the list is federal property under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service which is a branch of the Department of the Interior. Bow wow has absolutely no authority, knows it, has been called out on it and is now trying to backpedal.
If she truly fears a coming race war, the first thing she should do is get rid of the extremely divisive BLM “mural” in front of the WH which she funded with taxpayer cash and helped to paint.
