The California Supreme Court on Monday overturned the death penalty sentence for Scott Peterson, convicted in the Christmas Eve murder of his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Conner. The court's decision came more than 15 years after Laci, a Modesto, Calif., school teacher, was killed. Investigators said Peterson dumped his wife's body from his fishing boat into the San Francisco Bay in 2002. The bodies of Laci and Conner surfaced months later.
While the murder conviction against Peterson stayed in place, the court ordered a new penalty phase trial.
This is the same court that let Charles Manson off death row. In CA a prisoner on death row can die of old age before sentence is carried out.

What OP said. Considering the long, slow road to the death chamber, the idea of his being in prison for a long long time may have to do. He killed two persons. Should have consecutive life sentences at the least. One way or another, this beast should die in prison.

If you want to use the power of the State to end someone's life you better be damned sure everything was done exactly right.
He's a s***bag and a murderer but I don't want my State killing anyone in my name and in my behalf if they can't properly follow laws and procedures.
He isn't going free. They are redoing the penalty phase to see if he gets death or life in prison.
This time it's some sub human trash (site wouldn't let me use the word I wanted to use). Next time they screw up it might be you or someone you know.
You can let someone falsely convicted go free. You can't undo the death penalty. Do it right or not at all.

I don't know much about the case, but if he did it, he should die. In fact, should be in the dirt now.

Following procedures is one thing but it's almost like shooting fish in a barrel. They can always find one little thing you missed, i.e., dotting an i here or crossing a t there. It obviously took years to find something so it had to be obscure. As long as he stays on death row til the day he dies, I'll settle for that.

We do not have swift justice anymore. We have a lot of plain and simply politically corrupt courts too. I never get all that excited or relieved when a creep like Scott receives a well-deserved death penalty. They seem to rarely get carried out. This does not surprise me at all.

Does Kalifornia even carry out death sentences anymore anyway? Maybe they'll give him life and let him loose in the general population where someone, hopefully, will know he killed his little boy as well as his wife.

Quite frankly I'm surprised Peterson didn't get some prison justice while at San Quentin. I'm still hoping, given that California is so whacked out.

Scott needs to be more concerned about having his death sentence overturned by the Ultimate Judge, who holds the ultimate power over life and death.

Before these idiots release any more prisoners, I would like them to explain:
1) why they think the prisoners would be safer from covid on the outside?
2) why the health risk of the prisoner trumps the safety risk of the general public?

Things surely have changed. When I was only a few months old a student who attended a local college murdered a young woman who worked at the college. He was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death the middle of March 1951. He was put to death on April 23, 1951.
The murderer offered no motive as to why he did it other that when he saw Ms. Baker he had an "urge" to kill her. He said something just came over him at the time.
I have no problem with the death penalty as long as the state has absolute proof. I do think that if the death penalty is imposed it should take place within a certain period of time. No way should killers sit on death row for decades.

From all I have read over the years, Scott Peterson is a certified Sh** Bag, who has no conscious and no shame and is a treacherous facile liar and dramatic manipulator. The state and federal prisons are full of men like him and that is a good place for them.

Of corse the CA supreme court tossed it. Murders are de jour with the demonrat party now. They're even releasing them back to the streets to prey on anyone they want to. They're golden with the demonrats.

If there ever was someone more deserving than the death penalty, it's Scott Peterson. It is undisputed that he killed his wife, he dumped her body, and when the net was closing in on him he made preparations to flee. And the court vacated the death sentence because of procedural errors? There is nothing that was improperly done that would mitigate his crime. He should have been sent to Hell 15 years ago, the evil bastard. The most horrid thing? The baby's body washing up on the beach, umbiical cord attached to its lifeless body.
