SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Hundreds of California-based corporations must have directors from racial or sexual minorities on their boards under a first-in-the-nation bill signed Wednesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The diversity legislation is similar to a 2018 measure that required boardrooms to have at least one female director by 2019. Like that measure, it could face court challenges from conservative groups who view it as a discriminatory quota. Corrections*

On what authority can they do this? Will they next direct that the Catholic Church start having women priests?

More jobs and businesses will flee California. People will leave. California is becoming a welfare state that will eventually go bankrupt when they run out of other people's money.

Well said #7.
Why should political affiliation be any different as a criteria? Transgenderism is, after all, a construct of the mind.

That's okay. California wants to bankrupt so badly they tolerate that devil Gavin Newsom. May he get what he wants and like it after he gets is. What a maroon! Maybe central casting in Hollywood can make it look like a real state again. Probably not.

Gonna be an interesting next term for the Court. Wonder how all the Big Tech boys are feeling right now about this new law? Does part of diversity mean having somebody with conservative thinking on their boards? That will not make Google or FB happy in the least.

What they assume is that people are static, that if you're from a particular ethnic group, you all think the same (didn't Biden make similar comments?), have had similar experiences. They presume the children of Michael Jordan, LeBron James have the same experiences as someone from South L.A, North Tulsa, or the Southside of Chicago - all with large African-American populations.
Look at Kim Klacik in Baltimore, she seems to have different views, outlook and opinions than LeBron James, for instance, who indications tend to point to a more liberal political viewpoint.
And, it's not hard for a company to move their corporate offices either.

The voting for Ca. boards is now taken from the shareholders and placed in the hands of the socialists. Effectively, the shareholders no longer control these corporations. The corporations should immediately re-locate outside Ca.

Californians, when you leave, and you will eventually leave, please go to Mexico or Canada, do not migrate to other parts of the country and infect those areas with your crappy politics. (I'd feel sorry for you, but you are absolutely getting the government you deserve.)

Clearly unconstitutional... But I can't imagine any company challenging it in court. The bat-sheet crazy leftists would be all over then with boycotts.

I demand that subsidized housing be built in Malibu. Buy up some of the properties and convert them. It's not fair to the poor and disadvantaged for only rich people to live there. Same for Beverly Hills and the other posh domains of the rich and famous.

They voted to do this because demanding Social Justice Warriors on the boards wouldn't be popular now. That's next.

Last Time I saw an opinion on sexual diversity, thee were about 150 different sexual identifications, or minorities. Add one of each “race”. That would make some of these corporate boards unwieldy. Is the Gov. of California in his “right” mind?

#21, I know several families that moved out of California in the last few years, and you are right about them. They moved to escape the anti-gun, high tax, oppressive politics and will be conservatives in their new state.
And maybe, as has been suggested, most of the ones moving are "the good guys".
That doesn't fit well with the dramatic leftward swings in parts of Montana and Idaho and Wyoming which have had a lot of Californians move in. Jackson Hole, Wyoming, which I have been visiting since the early 70s is much more like a California town now than the Wyoming town I remember from 48 years ago. You see it in the grocery stores, the political signs, and the way folks dress. Friends in Montana and Idaho are not happy with their new ex-California neighbors. So, I don't know for sure what the details are.
Certainly not all Californians who move out are leftists. But 60% of the state voted for Hellary in the last election. Perhaps the self selection movers are more likely to be conservatives escaping tyranny. Or maybe they are a broad spectrum sample like the voters, 60% Dem.

FTA:Those who qualify would self-identify as Black, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Native Hawaiian or Alaska Native, or as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
This could be fun. Sarah Palin is a native Alaskan. Anyone who is 1/1,024 Indian can claim Native American status. And so on...

If you can leave your leftist bullcrap in California, bring your companies and your money to Arizona. Pro business government. Good work force and a good quality of live. Just leave leftist ideas and politics at the state line.

Hoo boy! This one is going straight to new Justice Amy Coney Barrett. Why do the Democrats say race/gender doesn't matter then pass laws saying it DOES? Because they are lying hypocrites, that's why.
