Harris brings Baptist, interfaith
roots to Democratic ticket

Original Article

Posted By: NorthernDog, 8/12/2020 8:35:27 AM

Kamala Harris, tapped on Tuesday as Joe Biden’s running mate, attended services at both a Black Baptist church and a Hindu temple growing up – an interfaith background that reflects her historic status as the first Black woman and woman of South Asian descent on a major-party presidential ticket. The 55-year-old first-term Democratic senator, whose name means “lotus” in the Sanskrit language, identifies as a Baptist as an adult and brought another faith into her life in 2014 when she married Douglas Emhoff, a Jewish attorney. Their wedding featured the breaking of a glass, a Jewish tradition, and Harris’ stepchildren

Comments:

Kamala covers lots of religious bases. But does she really believe anything?

" Woman of Color " How thrilling....She stinks no matter what her skin looks like. What color are they talking about anyway ? Her mother was/is Indian ( not American , but from India ) , her father was/is half black and get this, he had said that his ancestors were slave owners . That means that Kamala's ancestors were slave owners, but I would guess that's O.K. because she's a democrat, and they can do no wrong. Purposely destroying a country ( America ) is not considered doing wrong.

I do not see what Harris brings to the ticket. California was in the bag for Biden. I think this loses votes in the south as the region is totally off the ticket and already looks askance of Northeastern and West Coast politics. I don't get this pick unless it is about the black vote... in which case it seems a bit strange that a party that historically gets 95% of the black vote needs to do something to GET that vote...

This constant reference to being of "south asian" decent, for someone who's mother is from India. I've never heard anyone refer India as part of South Asia, and I doubt anyone in India has tried to lump themselves into being from South Asia either. The whole scheme is to fool enough people into thinking something that's not actually represented. They call her black, but that's to try and link her with African-American's, but her father is from Jamaica.

Kamala Harris is not an African-American in the traditional sense of those words, as she is not the descendant of African-American slaves who lived in the South in an old bygone slavery era before the Civil War. Instead both Harris’s father and mother were foreigners from India and Jamaica who came to the USA before she was born in California, with Harris then residing most of her childhood in Canada up to age 18. To get Harris on his ticket Biden bypassed a number of real African-American politicians who are the genuine descendants of African-American slaves, don’t think for one moment that the US African-American or Black population will not take that into account before they vote, along with the fact that President Trump has done more to lift up that population group economically than any other modern President.

MINNEAPOLIS — Prosecutors on Wednesday asked a judge to try four fired Minneapolis police officers jointly in George Floyd’s death. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison filed a memo arguing that evidence against the four is similar and that a single trial would spare witnesses and family members from the trauma of multiple trials. Holding one trial also would allow the community and the nation to absorb the impact of the verdicts for the four officers at once, instead of piecemeal, Ellison argued. “Forcing the community to endure four separate trials, with four separate verdicts at four different times, is likely

Since Kamala Harris was announced as Joe Biden’s pick for Vice President, the negative immediate media coverage of Harris has, as expected, been swift and vicious. She’s already been attacked by right-wing commenters, and called ‘nasty’ by the President. But another big, underlying trend has been far simpler: Harris’ first name has been regularly mispronounced, often intentionally by the likes of seasoned political commentators like Tucker Carlson. But Harris, who pronounces her first name “COMMA-luh” and not “kuh-MA-luh,” shouldn’t have to deal with this. President Trump continues to be his own worst enemy: On Thursday, he stooped to calling presumptive vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris a “mad woman.” That doesn’t promote his agenda. It doesn’t help him with women. It doesn’t shore up his image as worthy of the nation’s highest office. It’s just, as Trump would say, mean and nasty. Sure, Harris isn’t the first target of Trump’s ad hominem attacks or over-the-top language. But making everything personal is unbecoming. It turns off voters who like his policies but dislike his rhetoric.
