Black Lives Matter and Wall of Moms protesters filed the lawsuit on Monday against the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Federal Protective Service for using tear gas, rubber bullets, and other uses of force to clear protesters from the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse.

A Michigan woman has been arrested after investigators say viral video showed her torching an SUV and sparking an explosion that blew up in her face.
The video showed Sydney Parham, 26, of Fraser, being blown backward and then scrambling to her feet after the explosion, which took place Wednesday in the Detroit suburb of Harrison Township, investigators said.
Parham was arrested on an arson charge, Fox 2 Detroit reported.

Having driven this past month from my home in Kansas City, Missouri, to my summer digs in Chautauqua County, New York, to my annual family reunion in my home state of New Jersey, I can confirm that this is easily the stupidest period in American history and arguably the most oppressive. The North Adams City Council on Tuesday is bringing forward a resolution to censure Councilor Robert Moulton following his comments last week about Black Lives Matter, the coronavirus and other city issues.

Cheney his “winner of the week” for fending off her critics, claiming she “stood down an ambush from fellow Republicans who claimed she was insufficiently loyal to President Trump.” This follows comments earlier this week from Commentary’s Noah Rothman, who framed the issue similarly on the magazine’s daily podcast and described it as a preview of post-2020 recriminations among Republicans
In a decision that managed to cite both La La Land and Magna Carta, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Wednesday that parking tickets and fees must comply with the Eighth Amendment’s ban on “excessive fines.” Although the ruling is only a partial victory for the Angeleno drivers in this case, it nevertheless clears a path for others to challenge municipal fines as unconstitutional.
“This right to be free from excessive governmental fines is not a relic relegated to the period of parchments and parliaments, but rather it remains a crucial bulwark against government abuse,” Judge Kenneth Lee wrote for the court.

Joe Biden has a growing double-digit lead (snip) Are there “secret Trump voters,” a discrepancy between who voters favor and who they think will win? A recent Monmouth University poll illustrated this phenomenon. Voters favored Biden over Trump 53 to 40 percent but were evenly split on who they thought would actually win the election, Trump over Biden by 46 to 45 percent.
This is like asking a sports fan who they want to win the game versus who they think will win.

The Democratic Party platform has been published in draft form, and it is a beauty. An openly racist document, it is largely an attack on white people. The platform mentions whites or whiteness 15 times, never in a positive light. I want to focus on just one of those references to alleged white supremacy:

Justice Gorsuch wrote a one-paragraph dissent attacking the Supreme Court’s decision to reject a Nevada church’s emergency application. The application sought an injunction stopping the Governor of Nevada from shutting down meaningful church services, even as he allowed vast assemblies at casinos, movie theaters, and other secular sites. What should be more important than a pithy dissent, though, is the Supreme Court’s – and, more specifically, Chief Justice Roberts's -- appalling behavior. It is another reminder of how desperately important it is to return President Trump to the White House.

Police in Portland responded to reports of gunfire near the protest site and took two individuals into custody, according to a report.
The Oregonian reported that authorities responded to reports of gunfire in downtown Portland and an apparent victim was treated at a hospital after being taken there in a private vehicle. The report pointed out that it was not immediately clear if the shooting was related to the protest, which marked its 60th consecutive night in the city.
"As police were securing the scene a person arrived at a hospital by private vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound, non-life-threatening," police said in a statement.

The terms of the agreement between the family of Nicholas Sandmann—the Covington Catholic High School student accused of disrespecting a “native elder” while wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat during the January 2019 March for Life—remain secret.
