Former Chicago Bears coach and noted commercial pitchman Mike Ditka shared his thoughts on the growing wave of anti-racist athlete demonstrations occurring during the pregame national anthems at sporting events. For anyone who has ever listened to Ditka talk politics before, his beliefs on the matter were unsurprising.
“If you can’t respect our national anthem, get the hell out of the country.

I graduated Aliquippa High School one year ahead of Mike and I was in the band and usually in the front of the formation and I can still see that young football player standing in his uniform with his hand over his heart as we played the National Anthem to start each game. His face showed pure reverence. Mike Ditka is a patriot.

First, it isn't anti-racism demonstrations. Its Anti-America demonstrations. Second, when one looks at the athletes and realizes its predominately blacks making up the teams, its hard to blame racism.

“Despite the best efforts of demonstrators to remind their opponents that they are kneeling during the anthem to protest police violence against Americans, not as a statement “against the flag,” their message does not appear to have reached him.”
who wrote this lie...

No, Mike. I want them to starve first. When all this anti-American posturing began with Kaepernick, tcket sales fell and TV began showing empy seats in stadiums. I want the athletes and their complicit owners to see salaries and profits plummet and that means TV/cable money. I have cancelled cable with its up-to-now dollar printing press through which these athletes have become wealthy and encourage others to follow suit. THEN I'd be glad to see the Lebrons of the sports world ply their griping from Timbuktu.

Yeah, I didn't think Iron Mike would go for letting the "woke" players and coaches taking a knee. It's just not in his DNA to allow something like that in his Watch! The players knew it, and respected Ditka so they never would have tried it in the first place! Too bad so many Coaches now days have folded and followed their players into what is going to see the end to their Big Dollar Days! Fans are outraged at what they are seeing. They will shut off their TV sets and never, ever buy a Ticket to a game!

Do not watch the games, go to the games, or buy the merchandise. They cannot survive without the support of the public. Want to have an effect on these anti-American poseurs, dry up their cash flow. Watching them get their comeuppance would be delightful. It’s a simple matter of supply and demand. If there is no demand, the supply dries up by necessity.

This is what ticked me off clear back to the Vietnam War Era: the Flag is the symbol of all the rights promised through the Constitution. Why would anyone who actually believed in those Rights, desecrate that symbol? If the nation does not live up to the promise, I could see symbolically burning the flag, with reverence, as a symbol of our disappointment and a symbol of our desire to purge and purify our nation to refine it from the evils it carried (which it certainly did carry at that time).
But the treatment of the flag, and now the anthem, has always been a savage display of hatred, self justifying arrogance, and overweening pride. Same with the kneelers. They dont kneel in humility or prayer, they kneel as an expression of disrespect.
I agree with Mike. Until you get your heads on straight, get out of here.

He's old school like most patriots are. Unfortunately, we Americans allowed all our public schools to be taken over by radical leftists. We saw it but did nothing. We are starting to pay the price now. It will only get worse unless we clean out all our schools and universities ASAP. We need to close public schools and clear out all leftists and promoters of perversion, like those who are promoting transgender studies and telling confused kids to follow their feeeeeeeelings.

Agree with #15. Also, don't purchase the knock-off team jerseys, etc., from the discount places who get their stuff from ''foreign countries.'' If you don't support the NFL, NBA etc., don't even use their stuff to wash the car!

Mike invested his earnings wisely in top quality restaurants and maybe he had some money in the NFL too, which would contribute to his anger. Athletes were fine people up until about thirty years ago.

Players taking a knee for the American Flag and National Anthem then wearing or displaying BLM signs are supporting Marxist cop hating in some cases cop killers are un-American. These are no longer American entertainment sports but political grievance groups they are not teams to me. They can all kneel and stay kneeling because I will never see it or watch it. I want them all to pay the price by going broke. At this point with no one in the stadiums they are only entertaining one another at some point I want the million dollars players to negotiate 1k to play because there's no revenue and they aren't worth it.

I hope this has a Domino effect. It only takes one to start the cascade. More former coaches and athletes should join in. It's called respect.

While I admire Ditka and agree with him here 100%, I blame him for the 8-yr Obama horror show. Jack Ryan was the sitting IL senator who was supposed to run against Zero in 2004. However, Zero's handlers managed to expose some sordid details from Ryan's supposedly sealed divorce records (he was married to Seven of Nine - Jeri Ryan), and he dropped out of the race. Ditka was asked to jump in and, in my opinion, would have been a shoe-in due to his near-sainthood status in IL. He declined and we were stuck with Alan Keyes (a very good man but no match for the Zero and his fascist handlers). The rest is history.

If this is really about police brutality why aren't these athletes (2 syllables) demonstrating in front of police stations during their off time?
Purely rhetorical question.

#26, I agree and so much so that one night having dinner with Mike in his restaurant, I told him to his face that I blamed the whole Obama administration disaster on him. He was not amused but he did not disagree, either.
