oh if it were only shutting down stock market operations. then just cash everybody out and they would put their money to work in a second best solution. but shutting down the operations is not really the issue - it is the financial three card monte theft of funds that will occur.

Contrasting himself with President Trump, presumptive Democratic challenger Joe Biden on Tuesday said that he won’t be holding campaign rallies going forward due to the coronavirus. When asked if would hold large-scale rallies -- which public health experts warn against -- Biden told reporters: “I’m going to follow the docs’ orders. Not just for me but for the country. And that means I’m not going to be holding rallies.” And the former vice president -- holding a news conference for the first time in nearly three months -- acknowledged that latest “polling data is very good.” But with more than

Months into a pandemic that has caused more than 500,000 deaths worldwide, scientists are still trying to answer crucial questions about the coronavirus. Chief among them: everything about asymptomatic patients. People who contracted COVID-19 but didn't get sick and had no symptoms have been one of the most confounding factors of the public health emergency. The United States has more than 2.5 million confirmed coronavirus cases, but it's likely that many asymptomatic people have fallen through the cracks of official counts. Now, scientists say that without a better understanding of how many people have been asymptomatically infected, it's difficult to

Decisions on abortion and separation of powers demonstrate how good ideas about the law become empty words on a page. T here is a saying — perhaps as old as Aristotle — that courage is the first virtue, because it makes all the others possible. We usually associate courage (or its absence) with leadership by elected officials: There are times when it is hard to stand up for your principles, to stand against your own party, or both. From judges, we are told, the important thing is to follow, not to lead: to have the ascetic self-discipline to apply the Constitution and laws as written,

Conservatives were outraged eight years ago when Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts voted with the liberals on the court to uphold Obamacare's individual mandate. His swing almost singlehandedly saved the Affordable Care Act. A few years removed and he made a few better decisions, somewhat appeasing conservatives. But last year he helped kill the census citizenship question. Then, last week, he voted with liberals to reject President Trump's attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The court didn't say that Trump couldn't reverse the program, but that his legal reasoning wasn't up to par.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday struck down a Louisiana law regulating abortion clinics, reasserting a commitment to abortion rights over fierce opposition from dissenting conservative justices in the first big abortion case of the Trump era. Chief Justice John Roberts joined with his four more liberal colleagues in ruling that the law requiring doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals violates the abortion right the court first announced in the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. In two previous abortion cases, Roberts had favored restrictions. The Louisiana law is virtually identical to one in Texas that the court struck down in 2016.

The St. Louis lawyers who pulled weapons on protesters marching past their home are being investigated for possible criminal charges, the city’s lead prosecutor has revealed. Mark and Patricia McCloskey — who went viral after brandishing an AR-15-style rifle and a silver-colored handgun, respectively — were the only ones to lodge a police report over Sunday’s confrontation, insisting they were “victims” of threatening trespassers who entered a gated community, the St. Louis American noted. But the husband-and-wife lawyers are being probed by police and prosecutors for possible threats against the crowd, authorities announced Monday.
