California’s Stay-at-Home

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s stay-at-home order may well be necessary as a matter of public health in the face of the new coronavirus — I will leave that to epidemiologists to determine. But viewed as a legal declaration, it’s a total mess. (Snip) The order is also drafted so badly that it creates contradictions with the state’s own website explaining it; with the governor’s own speech rolling it out; and with common sense. As written, the order does not say clearly that Californians can leave their homes to buy food or medicine or other necessities. It doesn’t say whether they

The only way to "stop" this in the US is to compleyely close the borders. Declare martial law restricting people to their own homes until no new cases are reported, and for an additional 2 weeks. The borders must remain closed until all other countries have no new cases, and for an additional 2 weeks. Sheltering in place is one state is meaningless if people from other states can still come in. The virus is in the wild and can not be contained, short serious draconian measures. At this point, all we can do is mitigate the spread until this thing burns itself out.

Newsom will only round up those that can afford to pay the fines, the lawyers, the police and the judges for being rounded up. Are the homeless in California being rounded up? No? Why not.

First of all, this order is not necessary, and secondly, of course any order by California politicians is going to be "messy". That will be the best thing to be said about it. Insane, corrupt, venal, mindless are all other terms that are far more appropriate.

Another legal mess - Democrats are telling renters they can stop paying rent - an un-Constitutional taking of private property without government compensation. Will it have to go all the way to the Supreme Court before private property owners get compensated?

Once this virus runs its course, CA will find a way to institute a new 'health tax' on its citizens - you know, to safeguard against the next outbreak.

LOS ANGELES — Homeless people in California congregated in parks, popped into each other's tents on sidewalks and packed closely together to get food Friday, routine scenes that took on different and dangerous significance as state officials try to contain spread of the coronavirus. California is under a statewide stay-at-home order and residents have been told not to gather in groups greater than 10 and when outside to maintain a safe distance from others. The state's homeless population, estimated at at least 150,000, is seen as especially vulnerable to a disease that is spread by coughing and sneezing. State and local

Health officials in New York, California and other hard-hit parts of the country are restricting coronavirus testing to health care workers and people who are hospitalized, saying the battle to contain the virus is lost and we are moving into a new phase of the pandemic response. Instead of encouraging broad testing of the public, they’re focused on conserving masks, ventilators, intensive care beds — and on getting still-limited tests to health care
