People with blood type A might be more vulnerable to the coronavirus, while those with type O blood could be more resistant, according to a new preliminary study from China. Researchers studying COVID-19 in its outbreak epicenter, Wuhan, and the city of Shenzhen found the proportion of type A patients both infected and killed by the disease to be “significantly” higher than those with the same blood type in the general public. Type O patients, meanwhile, made up a smaller proportion of both those infected and killed by the virus. “People of blood group A might need particularly strengthened personal

Can you change your blood type, like you can change your gender?...I can see doctors besieged with that question, in certain locations.

This piece links to the original paper, which is fairly easy to read. They say: "These findings are consistent with similar risk patterns of ABO blood groups for other corona virus infection found in previous studies." Their sample size is pretty big, and just looking at the data, it does seem like there is something there -- especially given the previous study results. By the way, the results are pretty neutral for types B and AB.
My wife is type A, I'm O, so this could help us decide which one goes out for groceries. On the other hand, she's quite a bit younger, and the correlation with age is very strong. So, OK honey, you go.

#7 made me smile….until I thought about his wife bringing the virus home to her (shhhh) older mate…
We just can’t win! (But we can still laugh at ourselves…)

I'm amazed at how much #5 and I have been alike - other than our genders - over the years posting here, even having greyhounds. Now even our blood types. A-

It is amazing, #9. There’s someone who posts here under the name Greatgreyhounds. I wonder what his/her blood type is!
I’ve been donating blood since 1977 and the blood bank has called regularly to see if I’m coming in. If you’re a donor, it probably happens to you too.

We all have an appointed day to die, nothing will change that. Another area of our lives, like gender, race, and age that we can't change. Another area of life to scare us with. What does this profit anyone (including myself as A+). Does it mean that A's should be further excluded from society? We're all supposed to be watching out for ourselves and others no matter our gender, race, age or blood type.
Enough!!! Love your neighbor as yourself, regardless of all the categories in which we find ourselves. Don't fear what you cannot change. Change what you fear--God has not left his throne!

I'm A and my wife is O. I never have had flu in my life, almost never have a cold. She gets colds and flu with some regularity.
I'm not impressed with this "information".

#13, I'm O negative and 86. I rarely get sick, and only occasionally got a bad cold while teaching. Since I retired I haven't been exposed to all those kids, many of whom weren't the cleanest. As for #5, you aren't doomed, unless you mean in the long run, which fact we all share. So look forward to a long and I hope happy life.

I read an article last weekend that stated the exact opposite. It said Type O was more susceptible than Type A. Believe nothing you read. Our Media is repeating what they read themselves or just making it up as they go. Be more worried that this type of nonsense will begin occurring on a yearly basis and hope this national behavior does not become the norm.

Seems like blood type will be at most a secondary or tertiary effect, and which way.....very hard to know.
IMO, much ado about nothing (blood type susceptibility linking).

So? Type O encompasses 45% of the population, type A 40%. Type B and AB make up the rest. Draw your own conclusions.

A - here and far past my allotted three score and ten. As a Tulane student on GI Bill, I "earned" a bit of extra cash by selling blood at $20 a pint. I forget the interval required between appointments (probably a couple of months) but I got around that requirement by selling to two different hospitals, each at the other's mid-interval.

Talk about fake news. I heard earlier today, type A was less vulnerable.
I think we all need a day of silence on news.

There we go being divisive and racist again. How many additional ways can we scare people who are already scared?

On a more serious note, which blood type does a vampire prefer and would he pass on one person to get to the one he likes better?
