Gidley gave no further details, and it was unclear what the topic of Trump’s statement might be. There was speculation, however, that Trump might have news about Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the elusive militant who has been the subject of an international manhunt for years.

There’s no denying that this occurs. However, a new study from Massachusetts strongly suggests that it is not the main reason for the opioid epidemic.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) continues to pay tens of thousands of dollars from her campaign's coffers to her daughter for running a slate mailer operation while other debts remain untouched, filings show.
Waters's campaign committee disbursed $56,000 to the congresswoman's daughter Karen during the third quarter, according to the committee's most recent filings. The committee's payment to Karen reduced some of the accrued debt owed to her for running a slate mailer,(Snip) operation for the campaign.
At the end of 2018, the campaign reported being $183,000 in the red to Karen. Since that time, it has steadily chipped away at the debt, bringing the amount currently owed down to $52,000.

The Department of Homeland Security’s citizenship agency announced Friday it is streamlining the way migrants can apply for a discount on their immigration fees, saying that the old method unfairly gave an advantage to people living in some states. If I lived in California, I'd be staring down unemployment. A new law governing freelance work was signed into law late last month. It isn't scheduled to take effect until January, but if panicking freelancers aren't able to force a change before then, many will be banned from doing their jobs. You remember “by the book,” right? No, not “buy the book,” which I’ve been trying to get people to do since Ball of Collusion was published a few weeks back. I’m talking about by the book. That was the memorable phrase Obama national-security adviser Susan Rice emphasized in her notorious CYA memo.
Remember? The memo took the form of an email. She wrote it while clearing out of her White House office while Donald Trump was being inaugurated. It purported to summarize a meeting more than two weeks earlier, when President Obama held an Oval Office pow-wow on Ukraine

But New York City could become the biggest city in the country to change this age-old system altogether. Starting 26 October, voters have the option of switching to ranked-choice voting (RCV). In this scenario, even if someone’s top-choice candidate fails to get enough votes, their vote can still count. Advocates of RCV see it as an effective way to ensure a winning candidate has received a true majority of the electorate’s support. Source location must be indicated.

In a closely watched Dallas, Texas, child custody case, Judge Kim Cooks put aside the disappointing jury’s verdict of Monday against the father and ruled Thursday that Jeffrey Younger now has equal joint conservatorship with the mother, Dr. Anne Georgulas, of their twin boys.
The mother no longer has unfettered authority to manipulate her 7-year old boy into gender transition. Instead both mother and father will share equally in medical, psychological, and other decision-making for the boys. Additionally, the judge changed the custody terms to give Younger an equal amount of visitation time with his sons, something that had been severely limited.
Last weekend, NBC News reported that the Justice Department’s probe into the origins of the Russia collusion investigation is now focusing on the CIA and the intelligence community. NBC News soft-peddled this significant development by giving former CIA Director John Brennan a platform (a pen?) to call the probe “bizarre,” and question “the legal basis for” the investigation. Politico soon joined the spin effort, branding the investigation Attorney General William Barr assigned to Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham “Trump’s vengeance.”
Although I generally agree with Pat Buchanan in his observations about the world, lately I’ve been a bit confused about his comments on “democracy.” Whether Buchanan is telling us, as in April, that democracy is in a “death spiral” or more recently, that it’s “a dying species,” I’m not sure that he’s providing a consistent concept of his key term. In April, Buchanan lamented that “in Washington our two-party system in in gridlock. Comity and collegiality are vanishing.” Meanwhile “across Europe splinter parties arise and ‘illiberal democracies’ take power.” Buchanan is right that moral and social consensus is breaking down in Western countries;

On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Beat,” political commentator Bill Kristol said Republicans Senators were not ruling out voting to “convict” President Donald Trump during and impeachment trial.
Kristol said, “The White House is panicking that is what is happening. That is why Trump is lashing out at everyone in truly as the senator says, it is unhinged ways. That’s why Lindsey Graham is floating this ridiculous resolution telling the House how to do it’s business and giving Republican senators something they can kinda be for.”

On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher urged both former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton to “go away” and argued that neither of them can be at the 2020 DNC Convention.
Maher said, “[T]he Clintons, they’ve got to go away. I’m saying this now, a year out, or less, they can’t be at the convention, maybe on the video waving or something. But I’m serious.”
Maher then agreed with Representative Justin Amash’s (I-MI) assessment that Hillary is a “Trump asset” and added, “Bill is damaged goods. I just think they’ve got to go away.”
Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats on Friday called for Attorney General William Barr to recuse himself from “Trump Ukraine matters” as an impeachment inquiry into the president continues.

Former CIA director John Brennan calls the Justice Department’s widening probe into Spygate’s origins “bizarre.” It has no “legal basis,” he bleats.
What’s bizarre is that the expanding inquiry didn’t happen earlier. Brennan’s responsibility for criminal leaks during the Obama administration’s investigation of Trump has been obvious for at least two years. Even Trump hater Peter Strzok, the FBI liaison to John Brennan, couldn’t believe the leaks coming out of his shop. Referring to Brennan’s agents as “sisters,” Strzok said to his mistress Lisa Page, “our sisters have begun leaking like mad. Scorned and worried and political, they’re kicking in to overdrive.”

Before this week, liberals thought rising sea levels would wash the state away. Now, they believe it will go up in flames unless we do something immediately to stop "climate change." The woman at the center of a Russian influence-peddling scheme has been deported, ICE announced Friday evening.
Maria Butina was convicted last year of acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government, as part of the FBI’s efforts to combat the Russian government’s meddling in the 2016 election.
She was sentenced to 18 months, was released Friday, and deported back to Russia the same day, in a flight from Miami to Moscow, the agency said.
Butina was accused of trying to infiltrate the National Rifle Association, the gun-rights organization that poured tens of millions of dollars into backing President Trump in the 2016 election.
The 2000 presidential election day ended without a clear winner between Texas Governor George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore. It all came down to Florida, which was too close to call. State law required close contests to go through a recount, and some counties handled it better than others.
Miami-Dade County was identified by Democrats as a county where Gore could pick up new votes in a recount. South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg theorized that former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams lost her Georgia race in 2018 because of “racially motivated patterns of voter suppression.”
The Democratic presidential candidate made the comments during the unveiling of his new policy, “Building Power: A Women’s Agenda for the 21st Century” in Bow, New Hampshire.
