Something called the "K–12 Math Ethnic Studies Framework," created by a Seattle Public Schools "Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee," is intended to instruct students that math is intimately connected to racial oppression. Students will be taught "how technology and/or science have been and continues [sic] to be used to oppress and marginalize people and communities of color." The framework, the final draft of which is scheduled to be completed by September 2020, will also attempt to "explain how math dictates economic oppression." That's correct: math.

Our children were in a new Seattle elementary school years ago. It was excellent. I was glad to leave Seattle because of the nearly yearround gloom. Now they’ve much more in the negative column than gloom.

The decimal system and long division are racist to the core. So are differential equations and matrix theory.
They were designed to keep people of African descent in misery and poverty.
Why? It doesn't matter why.

If I say 2+2=4, it is like using the N word and I am a racist? Something doesn't sound right here.

Guess where Seattle's hi-tech parents won't be sending their kids to school. From that point of view public school education could literally be viewed as a deliberate racist enterprise scheming to keep poor and minorities in their place.

Yeah,math is hard.
There is something about putting numbers and letters together that reminds me of racism.
I would call this Ebonics for math. (It's just numbers without all the confusing letters like "x" and without the confusing cosigns and tangents of Geometry)

#10 - The insight about zero being a number is traced back to Egyptians, more properly blacks than Arabs.
As for Seattle's decision to treat math as inherently racist, it seems like irredeemable stupidity to me. If they want to drink that Kool Aid, they're on their own.

If you are a math or science teacher in the Seattle public school district, and you read this, what must you be thinking? If you are a philosophy professor, teaching logic and reason, and you read this, what must you be thinking?
This is where social justice is leading us. No math. No science. No reason or logic. No intelligence. Nature abhors a vacuum. It will be frightening to see what's put in their place. Actually, one can guess: Ignorance, stupidity, superstition, hatred, and tyranny.

All groups have a set of problems and the problems of the black community would be no more or no worse than the problems of any other group if the average black family had a loving father, working a job, living in the home and bringing up his kids. Period. End of discussion.

Seattle public schools have decided students aren't dumb enough so they have to make them even dumber by mandating math class time be majorly devoted to social justice. It's a way to propagandize students into the demonrat subversive party. It's for the children you know...

Oh, for pity's sake!! A simple search online for "black science and math innovators" brings up list after list of black scientists and inventors who relied on mathematics to gain their educations. THESE are the people that the schools should be pushing as inspirational heroes. Instead, they tell black kids that "the man" is holding them down yet again, this time through mathematics. What a disservice to these children when they could be learning something to lead them to satisfying careers!!
