Pope Francis, rounding out his synod of Amazonian clergy, announced Saturday that he would be reopening a commission to study the history of women as deacons in the early days of the Catholic Church.
After calls by women for greater decision-making roles in the Church, the pope made the announcement at the end of his three-week assembly discussing issues facing the Amazon region,. (Snip) “We still have not grasped the significance of women in the Church. Their role must go well beyond questions of function,” Francis said, according to Reuters. Francis, however, has said the “door is closed” to the question of women in the role of the priesthood.

The Pope just went along with the synod vote - and that is just more study of the issue - and it will inevitably result in no change in the sacrament of holy orders. Yawn.....

I dont see any reason that women cant serve as deacons or why priests shouldnr be allowed to marry.
My default position is biblical. The priests were married, but women couldnt be priests. To be clear, Im talking about Hebrew priests who served in the TEMPLE in Jersusalem. The temple built at G_d's command and to his design.

The Bible is very clear that women are not supposed to be preachers. The Catholics are pretty much that last bastion of Christians that actually follow that. Even my Baptist Church is allowing women preachers, which makes me sad. I guess we are all "eating at the cafeteria" (as one of my Catholic friends calls it) these days.
My understanding is that the Catholics don't require celibacy in their priests because of Bibilical issues, but because of practicality ones. Priests are not like Protestant preachers. Their ministry is a lot more demanding, and there are few women in this world who could actually survive very long as the wife of a priest. I guess maybe we will see soon...

so being a priest in the Orthodox Catholic Church must be less demanding than in the roman church since married priests seem to work out well there
I wonder what it is thay roman catholic priests do that consumes so much more of their time? (yes, that is what i am implying...)

A priest’s job is the most demanding job there is. A parish priest has to look after the spiritual, emotional, and even the physical needs of hundreds, sometimes thousands of people. And on top of that, they must manage the business of their churches— facilities, schools, personnel, fundraising, budgeting, events. They are moved to new parishes, in different cities and towns, with little warning and usually have no say in where they go. They do get vacation time and are paid small salaries, but they can’t just take off when they need a break from work. They are never anonymous either, someone recognizes them everywhere they go.
Catholics generally feel emotionally connected to their priests too, even if you only see them at Mass once a week. We call them “Father” after all. A priest is married to the Church, his children are his parishioners. It would be unfair (and impossible) for a wife and kids to compete with all of that.

The church did not want to be responsible for widows and orphans. They decided that “celibacy” was a gift from God so problem solved.

You might want to try the Episcopal church down the street #2, #8, and #11 if you find the Catholic Church has different beliefs than your own.

Ugly post, #6. I’m not implying; I’m stating. Women have had a prominent place in the Catholic Church for centuries. They were/are nuns. I know who these women are and I have no desire to see them elevated to the level of priest. If you think stories of gay sex abuse in the priesthood are bad, research the stories about nuns, and their charges.
I can’t speak for married clergy in other religions. I do know that marriage and children take a lot of energy and focus, as does dealing with affairs, divorces and money problems. I know what priests are called to do, and marriage would make that very difficult.

Allow "women" as deacons or is it allow "its" as deacons to be in sync with perverted priests?

Priests and popes used to marry. Some popes more than once. I see no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to marry now. It would only strengthen the church. As for women, honestly I don't see why they couldn't be priests, but that's just me. I was raised a Catholic but lost my beliefs long ago. But I respect anyone elses religion, as long as it doesn't say to 'kill the infidel.'

The headline is "fake news". The Pope said clearly that women will not be allowed to become priests. However, it was voted here to reopen the discussion of making them deacons there because of shortage of priests. Like a ruling of a federal judge, if it happens, this could effect everywhere, I think. I will continue to oppose these ideas. The reason for shortages is abortion, pure and simple, as well as new families limiting due to their "desires".
