Eleven people have reportedly been hurt during an active shooter situation at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California. Emergency personnel flocked to the scene at Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, outside Santa Cruz, at around 6pm Sunday as the annual festival was finishing up its third and final day. President Trump’s harsh words for House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) on Saturday morning dominated the otherwise quiet, summer weekend news cycle. I about this story here. Actually, the far more amusing post covered the Democrats’ reaction to the comments. My colleague, Alex Parker, reported on that last night here. For those who are unfamiliar with the story, in a series of predawn tweets, Trump wrote: Rep. President Donald Trump criticized House Oversight Committee chair Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) on Saturday for failing to help his district. He could just as well have pointed out Cummings does a terrible job of “oversight.”

What to do about the booming Trump economy is a problem the Democrats have yet to solve. Democratic presidential candidates always want to run as though it is 1932 and their mission is to end a depression, but that is hard to do when employment is at record highs, wages are rising, and in general the economy is perhaps the strongest in American history. They’re stinging from the insults of President Trump, who, in a feud with Congressman Elijah Cummings, sent out a twitter characterizing the district as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.” The jibe was met with a riposte by a Baltimore native, CNN’s Victor Blackwell, who choked up in broadcast that has gone viral.

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico — A pregnant Mexican woman suffering complications was told by immigration officers that they couldn’t process her family’s asylum claim at the U.S. border on Saturday before a U.S. senator intervened to persuade the officers to take the woman to a Texas hospital.
While visiting a migrant shelter Saturday, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) grew concerned about a woman who was 38 weeks pregnant and suffering from preeclampsia and other complications. The senator and his staff decided to take the woman, her husband and 3-year-old son to a port of entry to make their asylum claim.

To judge by what they say and do, Democrats are obsessed with two topics: impeachment and race. With Robert Mueller’s disastrous performance driving a stake through the heart of the former, race is shaping up as a defining issue in this week’s second round of presidential debates.
As a New York Times article put it, “The searing fight over race, inequality and history has come to dominate the Democratic presidential contest.” Count that as an understatement.
NUEVO LAREDO, Mexico — It was the first phone call to his family back in Honduras since crossing the Texas-Mexico border, and Olvin Alexander Buezo had bad news.
He wasn’t in the United States as expected. His 7-year-old son would not be attending elementary school this fall in Foley, Alabama. There would be no good-paying U.S. job to finance the $6,000 debt he incurred to pay their smuggler. “I already told [my uncle] to sell everything,” Buezo said during the brief but somber phone call to his wife on Tuesday. Their small “farm” — less than three acres — would have to go.

Robert Mueller’s testimony to Congress, by any reasonable standard, should have been the swan song of the impeachment movement.
To state the obvious, there is no evidence that President Trump or any other American probed by the Mueller investigation conspired with the Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election.
At worst, both campaigns were willing to take research on their opponents fed by Russians. On this score, it appears the Clinton campaign was far more successful, though the use of disguised campaign funds for this purpose has not yet been probed.
