The mother whose one-year-old twins died in a hot car has vowed to stand by her husband after he was charged with manslaughter in the horrific accident. 'I will never get over this loss and I know he will never forgive himself for this mistake,' Marissa Rodriguez said in a statement to NBC News on Sunday. The heartbroken mom's daughter and son, Luna and Phoenix, were found dead in the family's car on Friday after Juan Rodriguez forgot to drop the babies off at daycare before going in for an eight-hour shift at a veterans hospital in The Bronx. The father, a social worker and Iraq War veteran,

I'm sorry but how do you forget to hit the daycare before going to work? At that time of day, I would think 11 month olds would be making a lot of noise. I am glad he is being charged. This has got to stop

This sad tragedy could happen to anyone. No one is immune.
I can't imagine the guilt the father will carry with him for the rest of his life.
My heart goes out to both parents.

My heart is broken for him.
We need a 12-yr old to invent the life-saving sensor.

Yeah, right. I bet if he had $10,000 in the back seat he wouldn't have forgotten it.

When my son was about five months old I was exhausted all the time. I had gone back to work and had twin daughters to keep up with as well. Instead of taking him to his sitter, I drove straight to work. My brain was on autopilot. Luckily, I had trained myself to always put my purse in the backseat. I always get out and open the back door to retrieve my purse. When I opened that back door and came face to face with my quiet, happy son, I burst into tears. This was 22 years ago and I will never forget it. I would like to say I can't imagine what this couple is going through, but every time one of these stories comes out I relieve that morning in my own life and imagine a different outcome. I thank God for my purse routine. We need car systems that prevent this rather than judgment.

With 9 grandchildren, age 5 and under, I am back into the child watching world. It is tough and mishaps can mean disaster so quickly. I still think back to mistakes and distractions with my own children and the what if’s are terrible to contemplate. Those rear-facing seats conceal the entire child. If the child, children, are being quiet, there is no sign, no glimpse to remind you they are there. This is so tragic. Any criticism is beyond cruel.

He should be charged with felony stupidity and was probably high and under the influence of alcohol or other stuff to make you forget you had two babies in your car that you had to drop off on your way to work. The wife is a codependent and dead baby daddy is the family addict alcoholic. Of course she will lie and cover up for him. Someone check if they had life insurance on the little darlings. Motive? Just sayin...

I am praying for this family. The father did nothing wrong, except forget. I think his wife put the kids in the car, they were quiet, asleep, he couldn't see them because of those dam*ed backwards care seats, and just forgot. And YES, it's possible for decent people to have tragic things happen to them. There are lurkers here who are cruel, beyond judgmental, and beyond forgiveness. Would I forget if my dogs were in the car? Oh, yes, it's happened, except they BARK. Go lurk somewhere else.

Have to disagree with # 3. No, this couldn't happen to anyone. Who in their right mind forgets their babies for 8 hours? Surely at one point during the day he remembered them, which should have led him to realize he'd left them to suffer and die in a horrible way. I still say mandatory prison for any parent who lets this happen, no matter the reason. Any parent can look away for a bit, or step out of the room or yard where a child is playing and something could happen to their child, but this man spent an entire day at work - even if he didn't normally take them, surely just reminding himself how lucky he was to have such beautiful babies would have triggered him to remember where they were. You never hear of this happening in the winter, only the summer.

Last night I left a "Sprinkler" on.
I woke with a start at ten-fifteen and turned it off.
There is no execution so cruel as being slow baked.
Claiming adulthood comes with a few duties.
Kill yer kids......go to jail.......seems reasonable.
wait....wait....abortion seems not to count as killing.....why is that ????

When I lived in Florida, it seemed like I read these stories all the time. I bet if these people put their darn cell phones with the kids, the kids would never be forgotten. I am tired of hearing stories like this. Every time I have had a kid in the back seat, I was talking to them or looking at them in the mirror. I will never understand how you forget a kid in the car.

Did Mr. Rodriguez earn his spot to live in the USA via service in our military? By impregnating his wife four times bearing five children was he 'just doing jobs Americans won't do'? This guy who just murdered his own children through his own stupidity is reported to a 'social worker'. Let that one sink in for a moment.
Are incidents such as this one an unintended, or perhaps intended, consequence of the Immigration Reform Act of 1965?

I bet if he'd put his cellphone one of the car seats he wouldn't have forgotten. There's something else going on here. Reminds me of the South Carolina woman who drove her car into the lake to murder her two children, strapped into their car seats in the back.

Too horrible to imagine. Both mother and father not concerned enough for a whole day to even check with the daycare on their 11 month old twins? The daycare not checking with them to see why the twins didn't show up? Wife didn't check with her husband about the babies for an entire day? I don't know of anyone who would would be so casual about their infants for an entire day. There's much more to this story.

I wonder if it was normal routine for him to take the kids to daycare. If so, what distracted him so he drove straight to work? Also, does he take a lunch break? A lot of people run errands or go sit in their car to get out of the office. I also wonder why the daycare wouldn't have at least texted someone about the twins not showing up. In many cases you need to cancel in advance to avoid the daily daycare charge. Being a social worker in The Bronx with 5 children to support may be an avenue to explore.

You can thank the safety weenies for these deaths - kids used to sit in a car seat in the front seat of the car where they couldn't be forgotten at six a.m. Thanks to airbags, they now have to be parked in the back seat. A sleepy child in the back seat is likely to go right back to sleep and can be easily forgotten by a preoccupied parent. I'm not excusing the parent who is responsible, but back-seat child seats are part of the problem.
