A Mischief of Rats

Original Article

This editorial is intended as a friendly, cheer-up gesture to our friends in the 7th District of Maryland. They’re stinging from the insults of President Trump, who, in a feud with Congressman Elijah Cummings, sent out a twitter characterizing the district as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.” The jibe was met with a riposte by a Baltimore native, CNN’s Victor Blackwell, who choked up in broadcast that has gone viral. We hope Mr. Blackwell can take some comfort in the fact that when it comes to rats, Baltimore has got nothing on Mr. Trump’s hometown. The other day we were transferring trains

The President is correct. I was born in Baltimore, visited Baltimore and enjoyed Baltimore MANY YEARS ago. Before it was destroyed by the corrupt Mayors that turned it into a hell hole. Baltimore today is running close to Chicago or LA. I refuse to go to Baltimore and tell my friends and family DO NOT go there because it is unsafe. As for Elijah Cummings, he should be very careful what he says. His own wife is stealing from her so call charity to pay for her profit business. He along with this corrupt wife should be in jail.

Given the poster of this article, I didn't know what to expect from this article. I figured it out and it is as I expected. A jab at President Trump. We have leaders at every level in city, state, and country. The money that taxpayers have to pay at all levels you would think our problems would have solutions. Except government people don't get it but want the money to keep coming in. That is why I appreciate President Trump. He wants to fix our ailing problems and not keep kicking the can down the road.

Just to get technical for a minute -- Does that ranking of rat-infested cities by a trap company use absolute numbers or percentages? Baltimore is far smaller than New York, so how do the rats-per capita compare?

I'll be flamed here but that's oK I can take it. I voted for Trump and know he's fighting an uphill battle every single second of his presidency. And I support him, financially and with my time. But, you know what? I'm getting so sick of his lashing out like this. I fear that eventually his own mouth will do him in. He could get the same message across by stating, "Baltimore has a serious rat and rodent problem. So I'm inviting Congressman Cummings to the WH to discuss how we can work to find a solution." The same message; the same slam on Cummings for not providing a safe and healthy environment for his constituents...but Trump would appear as a leader instead of a nasty, loose cannon. I'll continue to support the man and his policies, but it's getting really hard to support his behavior. Go ahead. Let the flames begin.

I agree with #13. The President overshadows his really effective achievements with schoolyard taunts. He's obviously never going to get past being an emotional 13-year-old in these situations. We can only hope and pray that enough voters evaluate his administration more seriously and can overlook the juvenile impulse to react to every single thing that shows up in the news.

Rats have always been with us the author says colonial times? How about medieval times they have always been a scourge. The problem with the democrats is that their enviro crowd does not want to do what it takes to kill them and it will inevitably lead to disease and the plague. That is what rats bring you folks, you can choose to ignore it but that is a fact; and so I suppose until the bodies are piling up and the carts come down the street call out "Bring out your dead" life will go on. But you will pay the piper sooner or later and the price is always higher later.

No flaming necessary...but let me ask my fellow posters (whom I respect), exactly how well have we done with previous mature, diplomatic, and thoroughly gentlemanly "leaders" (ohhh, say like McCain or Romney) in getting the Democrats to "work with us"? Have they come to the table and found a way to really solve the problems of their deteriorating cities and states? Do they respect us more now for "reaching across the aisle" and letting them pick our pockets some more? Don't all answer at once. I know it may take some time to think of at least one or two cases. No. The Romneyization of Trump isn't going to cut it. Reason: the Democrats are at WAR with us, not just quibbling over language. And it's going to take a WARRIOR to take them down. Stop whining that he's using the wrong salad fork and start helping him reload.

''I fear that eventually his own mouth will do him in.'' It has worked pretty well so far. President Trump has the democrats so deranged that they are destroying their own party. Of course, we could insist that he act like the perfect gentlemen that were both of the Bushes, Mitt Romney, and other Republicans that were steamrolled by democrats! I prefer a man who will take the fight to the opposition, instead of being Mr. nice-guy who shows phony respect for the people who would destroy this country! President Trump is fighting fire with fire. Some people may not care for his style, but I accept it as a key to his successes.

The same hand wringers and pearl clutchers have been doing just that at every opportunity since Cruz or Kasich or their favorite uniparty member didn't win the nomination. Some of us have long memories. Effete behavior and "Sunday" manners are cold comfort for 4 years of Democrat/media punishment (those of us who supported the Bushes know this well) but that is just what our betters here and elsewhere wanted. We were to have again weak, mute, and castrated leadership, the same thing we have had since Reagan left office. I'd rather the effective, over the top bluster than the mild simpering eunuch reaching limp wristed hand across the aisle. But then I wish the best for all our people, not just the cocktail and country club class.

But, when you watch the videos here yesterday of Cummings' district in Baltimore, my first thought was that those row houses have "good bones". The President is correct when he questions what the heck does the city do with the millions of dollars sent to it by the government. Couldn't some people who are smart and have integrity get together and turn those row houses into real decent places for people to live. You can see by the videos that there are homeowners in the line of row houses who are making their homes so nice, but how can they live without fear with all that's around them. Someone with courage and tenacity should have the decency to turn that neighborhood around for the residents. Mr. Cummings and his wife should remove themselves from the scene. We are so tired of these crooked politicians who take advantage of the system and the people of Baltimore are sick of them too.

No disrespect intended, #13 & #15, but the silk-stocking, snuff-box elite crowd in the Republican Party has been pretty much useless for decades. Playing a gentlemen’s game has allowed the left to take over every aspect of our culture and communications. I’m afraid that if our beloved republic is to survive, it’s going to take a street fighter. It would be nice if that fighter came in the guise of a polished, polite, measured, and beloved figure, but this is what God has provided. I am in no way disparaging your comments, as I believe you both know the stakes well, and are patriots. I know some who feel the way you do. But, I caution all of us that the left will use any perceived weakness it can find for its dark purposes. They will use our own honesty against us. They will never rest. And so, we have Donald J. Trump, warts and all.

I see the rat tweet as a indictment of the crime in Baltimore not the rodent problem. However, like most major cities, rats/rodents are a huge problem, and as #2 indicates, it's common knowledge that Cummings wife has been dipping into public funds to enhance her business. The difference is, she's the wife of Cummings. Remember, they kicked the mayor of Baltimore out of office for a few years ago for stealing gift cards meant for charities, and she was a democrat.

I see the moderates here are clutching the pearls again. That polite routine has been tried for how many decades now? Has it ever worked? No? Well then I suggest that Trump is resorting to shock and awe, simply because he cannot get the democrats to deal with their urban rot. Now he has them defending it. Bravo Mr. President. I just wish the moderates would stop with their phony behavior, I really do. Snippy attitudes for thirty years have gotten us to the point where only strong measures will work now. Maybe they didn't notice that while Trump set up an icky bit of master trolling for the media to focus on, he got his big win at the SCOTUS for the wall funding. So stop with all the vapors, okay? Like all bad behavior in children, if you don't challenge it, it continues. The Left hasn't been challenged in 30 years, so Trump has taken on the task.

Simply stated, what nasty Democrats refuse to accept is that President Trump has as much right to defend “his” people, be they government employees or ordinary American citizens, as do his sanctimonious adversaries defending “their” people. Elijah Cummings and his ilk behave like bullies using outrageous language, facial expressions and distortions of reality. President does not stoop to their level. President Trump is a New Yorker and speaks bluntly. To the pearl-clutchers he is unsophisticated, boorish. Wrong! President Trump possesses more sophistication, compassion, courage, and truth-telling than his adversaries have combined and knows when and where to use sophistication or blunt speaking. The shameful performance by Elijah Cummings mirrors the behavior of most Democrats. Elijah Cummings assailed a man who was simply doing his job within the dictates of government policy. There is absolutely no excuse for such behavior.

No governor yet claims jurisdiction over the International Space Station but the astronauts have a lot of explaining to do when they return to earth. It’s not as though they lacked for space. Governors ordering around people 250 miles above their states seems far-fetched. But so, too, did the notion of governors usurping the role of legislatures. Eight months after the initial coronavirus lockdowns, citizens docilely accept the idea of a single person dictating the laws that govern millions of people.

The practice of democracy in our constitutional republic flourishes in the presence of contradictions. Democracy, itself, is bound by our inalienable rights, bestowed to us by our Creator. These rights, not given to us by our government by any majority or by any vote, cannot be rescinded, for they were not wrought by man. Voting is a contradiction for it is both public and private at the same time. Its process is intended to be secret, but transparent. Its agency is intensely partisan, but its effect is intended to be unifying. The legitimacy of voting must survive despite the contradictions intrinsic to the process.

Will Judge Emmett Sullivan accept President Trump’s pardon of General Michael Flynn? No one has suggested that possibility, other than The New York Sun. The general’s case, though, has become a bonfire of the vanities of one district judge who has denied the presumption of regularity to an official act of the United States government — meaning Attorney General William Barr’s attempt to drop the case. So why would Judge Sullivan credit President Trump’s workaround of a pardon? We understand, the pardon could be the least fettered of all the powers that the Constitution grants to the president.

Many conservatives have moved their social-media accounts to the more freewheeling Parler, and often have slammed the supposedly monopolistic Facebook and Twitter as they’ve decamped from those sites. I have chuckled at some of their overheated parting rhetoric — especially the widespread misunderstanding about the meaning of the word “monopoly.” A monopoly is, as the Oxford dictionary explains, “the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service.” Quite obviously, if one stops doing business with a company and heads over to its competitor, then the previous company is not by definition in exclusive possession or control of a service.

There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. Appearing on Yahoo! News’ Skullduggery podcast, the Tennessee Democrat said the effort is getting a fresh look after the release of a new movie highlighting the FBI’s secret program to discredit civil rights activists. The Washington Times in 2019 first reported Democrats’ bid to strip the longtime FBI director’s name from the bureau’s headquarters. Mr. Cohen said the impetus to revive the bid is the new movie, “Judas and the Black Messiah.” The movie details

“There must have been a moment, at the beginning, when we could have said –-no. But somehow we missed it.” Tom Stoppard The millions of Americans who were paying attention throughout the 2020 election campaign all became painfully aware of the fact that Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities were slipping and slipping fast. His wife, as the person closest to him, should have been the one to call the campaign quits in order to reduce stress on the man. Instead, apparently so anxious to become the First Lady by any means necessary, Mrs. Biden continued to push her failing husband’s campaign forward as if he were mentally qualified.
