WASHINGTON — As Democrats agonize over a spate of state laws restricting abortion rights and even a potential reversal of Roe v. Wade, one 2020 presidential candidate is putting an ambitious, long-shot plan to reform the Supreme Court front-and-center of his campaign. Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has talked about his plan to overhaul the high court since his first days as a candidate. In short, it calls for expanding the number of justices from nine to 15, with five affiliated with Democrats, five affiliated with Republicans, and five apolitical justices chosen by the first 10. Although other

Keep talking, Pete. It all sounds so reasonable, so thoughtful, ... so disastrous!

OP, the Democrats started using the Supreme Court when FDR looked to push his extreme ideas by packing the Court, so nearly 80 years ago.
50 years ago they started to use the Courts to shape agenda and policy they knew could not pass legislatively.

Oh, if only "conservative" justices STAYED conservative. I think I'd like to just stick with the Constitution's version for now. Thanks anyway.

Not that it matters but this proposal would completely eliminate any check against the system the US constitution now allows. We the People can hold our elected officals (President, Senators) acocuntable for thier SCOTUS picks. But, in usual Democrat, autocratic tyranny, Democrats want to eleiminate that all together.

As I recall, the composition of the SC is subject to the laws passed by Congress. So he would need a Democrat House and Senate to pass it first.

This is amazing. Peter Gig has an issue to discuss other than his gayness and his wonderful husband, Chastity, Charity or whatever. What a concept, judges choosing their friends, boyfriends and girlfriends to sit on the bench beside them. Imagine the drama, imagine the Constitutional abuse. Obama wasn't even this devious.

It was a stupid idea 80 years ago, and it’s even more stupid today.
The Dems are just checking off a box with this idiot. If he wasn’t a homosexual, he wouldn't even be in the race.

Why not make it three hundred million Supreme Court Justices? Felons and illegal aliens could be justices. Unending confirmation hearings. Each case decided by a show of hands with the yeas and nays counted by Cub Scouts.

Liberals started using the Supreme Court as a political weapon 50 years ago. It took Republicans a few decades to figure that out. So now they want to pack the court by adding 6 new 'non Partisan' justices.
