Russian hackers breached a county elections department in the Florida Panhandle where voters turned out heavily for President Donald Trump in 2018, according to a report confirmed by POLITICO.

What's going on with Lucianne today? The setup and look is different. Did I miss a memo?

I believe they had another server crash #1. They were offline for much of yesterday. This is probably a "quick fix" solution to get the site running again.
This sure seems to happen a lot. Is it outside forces attacking the site?

Forgive the 2nd post....#2: I would not be a bit surprised.

Your point, Politico? It was on Obama's watch that all of the Russian hacking occurred because he was lazy and ignored it.
Yes, #1. The LOGIN for every post and the return to windows when you close out of an article makes use of the site slower and more clumsy. Probably a feature and not a bug.

No indication that they could do anything other than access some names.
Seems like these counties need to have this database entirely OFF LINE, not
connected to the internet at all. Why do they need to have this on an open net?
It is not difficult to have a separate local network which has NO connection to the
wider internet for intra office use. Stupid, lazy folks put so much at risk just
unthinkingly connecting EVERYTHING to the open internet, whether there is a
real need or not, and regardless of security issues.
Yes, the site is way different - having to login once only. But my normal Firefox browser doesn't do anything
when I click on the "Post Reply" words. Just dead. I have switched to Win Explorer and
the site asked me to log in, which I did.
Definitely different, and I hope I can go back to my preferred Firefox browser at some
point.

#5 It looks like there is a redirect to another program that enables the login and Firefox may be set to not allow it. Mine seems to have been corrected to require only one login and I'm on Firefox. Give it another try.
I think that many voting precincts opened their database up to the Internet so people could register and change their data online. Good idea for convenience but not security. Since it only has to be done rarely, registration should be done in person.

I missed that, #6, good catch. Must be a typo since Trump wasn't on the ballot for any elections in 2018.
But it is Politico, not a reliable source to begin with.

1. I have serious doubts about all these claims that the Russians hacked into systems. I don't believe the DNC computers were hacked by Russians but rather they were accessed by people in the DNC who disagreed with the committee's cheating actions against Sanders. The Russian claims were made up to save face among the committee leaders who were in on the cheating. According to many informed people, the internal "hacker" (if indeed you can call it hacking when one has full access to the system as part of their job) who supplied the documents to Wikileaks was murdered in the street.
Couple all that with the fact that the DNC would not let the FBI examine their computers to see who had hacked but rather they used a Democrat sympathetic company Crowdstrike that has a reputation for blaming Russians for hacking more often than others in the business.
2. The Russians don't care so much about controlling the outcome of the election as they do sowing discontent. The Mueller investigation could not have been a better outcome for their goals.
3. If Russians were hacking a voting system prior to the election and it was in districts who were known to be very Republican, then there would be no point unless they were hacking to give Clinton more votes from that area. And considering how strong the Republicans are in that area they would have had to change massive quantities of votes. If they had been successful it would have been obvious and the outrage would be huge. Sowing discontent is their goal.
4. As a long time computer hardware designer I think that computer voting machines are a bad idea. I have not changed my opinion since 2001 when the big move to start using computers began. It's much easier to cheat an entire computer system than it is to mess with a few hanging chads. I'm for purple finger and proof of citizenship.

Hey, I'm starting to like this new web page better. The thumbs up clicking is much faster and does not require a full page refresh.
I didn't notice at first that clicking on a thread was no longer spawning a new tab because I'm in the habit of right clicking and selecting NewTab instead of just left clicking. So get in the habit of selecting new tab. On tablets I think you hold your finger on the link a menu containing NewTab usually pops up.
When it comes to HTML code it gets tricky to write code that reliably spawns a NewTab for a link because it often differs between platforms and browser brands. So just get rid of the tricky code and let us choose NewTab ourselves.

Agree totally on computerized voting machines being a fundamentally bad idea, just not needed
and literally just begging to be cheated.
And Firefox still does exactly nothing when I click on "Post Reply"

# 11, There is a note on my screen (very top of home page) that says this changeover should be complete within 24 hrs. and that some may be locked out until it is complete. I'm using Firefox also but had no prob. When I hit reply, it takes me directly to login.
