A bill that would ban schools and workplaces from having dress codes that forbid braids, twists and other natural hair styles has passed the California State Senate. SB 188 updates the state´s anti-discrimination laws so the definition of race "also include traits historically associated with race, including, but not limited to, hair texture and protective hairstyles." It passed on Monday in a 37-0 vote and will now go to the State Assembly. The bill, which is also known as the C.R.O.W.N. Act (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair), states that the standards of professional dress and

Heh heh heh....that headline made me chuckle...next they will ban discrimination on how you dress, i.e. you can wear your pants around your ankles with no problem...
Kalifornia, land of fruits and nutz and idiot politicians...better for all of us if the conservatives move out and it slides into the sea.

Natural? Only if you are a rasta artist or a voodoo priestess.
Not a plethora of openings in those fields.

I was unaware that California was besieged by discrimination based on hairstyles. I was unaware that sort of discrimination was even a "thing." Son of a gun!

Ah, California, isn´t it likewise time we prohibit people from wearing hairstyles that aren´t endemic to their "type"?
Possibilities are endless.

Sorry but these are not ´natural´ hairstyles..if you touch you hair with your fingers, it is no longer ´natural´...straight is straight, kinky is kinky, bald is bald...

Silly me. Sure didn´t know twists and weaves were "natural" hairstyles. Sure thought human intervention was needed for those.
Skinheads fall under this classification? How about dreadlocks and extensions?

One more reason not to open a business in CA and one more reason to move if you already have one there.

But it will still be perfectly fine, expected even, to discriminate against someone because of his/her political or religious beliefs if they don´t meet with leftist approval.

#9 - you can be sure someone, somewhere (in Ca) had their tender sensibilities get all butt-hurt because some other REASONABLE person had a bad reaction to their hair-extravaganza gone awry, and they went and got a lawyer. Next thing ya know, and the government is snatching away another decision you will no longer be allowed to decide for yourself.

The left is tyranny, absolutely intent on ruling every detail of society, now hairstyles. Individuals will no longer be able to possess preferences. Now individuals will have to accept the slog, even though they prefer nice. I hate the rulers of Ca., would not live there, will never visit, do not accept calls or mail from there.

So, can I sue my employer when my ethnically correct hair gets caught in a machine at work and injures me? Can I act surprised that it happened and that my employer was negligent in using machines that didn´t protect my ethnically correct hairstyle? Can my ethnically correct hairstyle count as a disability or qualify me for unemployment if it makes me unable to work in my chosen field because I can no longer perform my work duties if my employer can´t make modifications to the machines needed to do my job to accommodate my ethnically correct hairstyle? Do the idiots in the California State Assembly thinks about this stuff before they pass this idiotic stuff?

We had a courier at FedEx that had dreadlocks and he had to cut his hair because of complaints about the smell from customers. I guess being smelly is ok now also. P.S. The guy was white so I guess it wouldn´t be considered "natural"

Democratic lawmakers are passing nonsense like reparations and "ethnically-correct" hairstyles because they really are concerned that they may lose black votes to Trump, so, it´s time to hand out the promise of goodies and treats. And of course they´ll be there to support some idiot whose hair gets caught on some machine and sues his/her employer.

Braids are a “natural hairstyle”? I didn’t know that hair was capable of braiding itself. My daughter is a hair stylist. I had better let her know about this.

Thank heavens I wear my hair short. The only problem I have is that it is naturally curly. It only bothers me and no one else.
I don´t understand ´dreadlocks.´ I don´t understand tons of braids. I like to be able to shampoo my hair in a moments notice and then not worry about it. The other styles I mentioned are very time consuming to attain. I don´t have the time.

Nothing natural about the hair styles being identified for protection. I´d fine the authors of this bill for fraudulent use of language.

Whoa!!!
I just read it again.
Racial discrimination based on hairstyle.
What about a fair-skinned Irish beauty with dirty dreadlocks.
What about a copper-tone Latin beauty with dirty cornrows?
Where´s the racial component?
Racism is the cry of the idiots.
If I don´t hire you because you cannot speak proper English, or speak in Ebonics, am I a racist?
