WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 2020 presidential election, wants to cancel billions of dollars in student loan debt and make college cheaper for students going forward. Warren, in a post on the website Medium, proposed canceling $50,000 in student loan debt for anyone with annual household income under $100,000, which her campaign said would amount to 42 million Americans. It would also cancel some debt for those with household incomes between $100,000 and $250,000. Warren, who has long advocated in Congress for providing debt relief to students, called student loan

The taxpayers will be paying for those student loans if the students no longer have to pay them.
We struggled to pay for our kid´s college tuitions. They worked summers, and we paid the rest. They went to good in-state public universities, got good degrees that got them good jobs right out of college, and had no student debt when they graduated.
Hey, we could have let them get loans, and bought boats and vacation cabins and taken wonderful vacations, but instead we sacrificed all those "luxuries" to help our kids succeed.
Now Fauxahontas wants us to pay for all the deadbeat kids that went to expensive private colleges and majored in useless degrees where they weren´t qualified to get any type of real job when they graduated.
And she wants us to pay reparations to the ancestors of slaves that our family didn´t own (since neither my family nor my husband´s came here until the turn of the 20th century).
When you "cancel" student loan debt, you really just transfer it to the taxpayers. This taxpayer says "no"!!!!!!!!

The end of the republic is determined when people realize that they can elect politicians that will give them something for nothing! This pandering old fool will give away (transfer to the taxpayer) anything to get elected. How sickening!

Only a loser would try to attract votes by having to promise to give away free stuff. Only a loser would try to get ahead by passing herself/himself off as a minority to take advantage of set-asides.
Both of these describe Warren, a desperate wannabe candidate of a desperate political party.

Ok fine - but since Dems like raising taxes so much - tack on an earnings tax surcharge to recoup those edumacation benefits back. You had college loan forgiven? You got a nice job out of the deal? 40% bonus tax on all earnings until paid back (with interest, of course).

Gee...... that wasn´t at all predictable. /S/
This is exactly why the dems want the government controlling everything. The can get votes by promising free stuff and punishing the "wrong" kind of people. You know..... those that pay taxes and dont vote for them.

How about all the ex students that were responsible and paid back their loans.
Do they get screwed because they were responsible borrowers?

What about including the reimbursement of parents like us who have scrimped, saved, and worked extra to put our children through college without debt.
This woman is a danger to our society.

I saw this coming when The Zero and his evil minions nationalized the student loan program. Just another free sample of the communist heroin that the Dems are selling to destroy the country.

The federal government should stop loaning money to students for college tuition. It´s skewing the market value and making colleges richer and students poorer.. of course, Democrats LOVE poverty! Poor people are easy to manipulate!

She made---how much was it?-----$300,000 a year teaching a class or two, and she wants free college? How much would she be paid if private education were free? She is such a brazen. hypocrite.0

I totally agree with you #1. We did the same. However, the universities are also at fault here. They push the students to go to these phony degrees so they can keep the phony departments and administrators knowing full well the degrees are junk. The kids are stuck with the loan, the university got the money to build yet another country club building and the kid cannot get a job. That is the other part of the story that needs to be addressed. Get the government out of the student loan business.

Slowly but surely we have been transforming from a country of equal justice under the law to arbitrary rule under elites.
By seizing the college loan industry the government can play Oprah, you get your debt forgiven and you get your debt forgiven and you...no so much, you better get a job and fast so you can pay of your loan as well as your prefered classmate´s loans.
You don´t get rich selling favors in constitutional America because there are no favors to sell. The regulation 4th branch of government the tax code and now the student loan racked give politicians plenty of goodies to sell. And we trust these people to restore our country?

In most cities these days $100k/yr is relative chump change.
Fauxcahontas is literally trying to buy the Presidency with hard-working Middle Class Taxpayer money. If you took out a student loan for a hate-America SJW major at an average college, why do I have to pay for your mistake??? I’m paying for plenty of my own mistakes thank you very much!!

Do you want to go to college for free? Great. Enlist. You get an education, free medical for life and a neat deal on a mortgage when you buy a home. Plus, you´ll have some skin in the game.

It’s one thing to pander to young people with debt however, I paid mine off-my loans were my responsibility. It is their responsibility to pay off their own debt NOT the government or taxpayers.

How many were laughing at Maxine Waters for "grilling" those bank executives about their student loans, only to find they had not issued one since 2009 or 2010?
Now you know why?
Believe the Dems were simply laying the ground work for noting that the publicly traded banks themselves weren´t exposed, thus, since it is just Fanny and Freddy, quasi-government agency, it wouldn´t be too hard to "forgive" the loans.
However, I do believe the IRS has a ruling that anything like that is considered income, and taxable still.

Before anyone supports her proposal, just check the top 20 college endowment funds, starting with Harvard´s $533 Billion, with a B. These schools have an enormous amount of money and the amounts keep increasing. Can anyone tell me why a collge needs $ 533 Billion and what they do with it. Warren´s proposal is ludicrous.

Many are forgetting a portion of student loan debt is strip mall colleges where everybody can learn court reporting and medical billing, except there are no jobs in those fields.
One mother I know was talked into a separate student loan for her kid´s books. When she filed bankruptcy, they refused to include the loan.

Sounds like an invitation to go out and get student loans to pay for things like rent, cars, partying, and spring break trips. Lots of people take out student loans for things that they do not need! I should not have to pay for a student´s life style while in college. If you want to go to college, pay for it your self. IT will mean more and your will take your studies more seriously if the money comes out of your pocket.

What a racket. Most estimates put the number of jobs that require a degree at about 30-35%, yet every last student--100% of them--is urged to get a degree at all costs. Of course 100% of people do not go to college, but many do who have no business there. If everyone applying for a job has a degree, the degree doesn´t matter. So college graduates have an increasingly less meaningful slip of paper to show for their indebtedness.

How about my car loan? That´s an ´unfair burden´ too. And about that cable TV charge. Every month a small fortune that someone else could easily pay.
