COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio’s coveted 18 electoral votes would be delivered to the presidential candidate who wins the national popular vote under a proposal making its way toward the state’s fall ballot. The proposed constitutional amendment , whose summary language was certified Monday, would force state lawmakers to assure the powerful Electoral College’s votes are delivered to whichever candidate wins the most votes nationally, rather than the most votes within Ohio. (Snip) A national movement has burgeoned in the wake of those elections to defy the Electoral College system and instead honor the popular vote in presidential elections.

I would propose that the bill be named "The let us let California and New York decide Act". I´m sure that will go over big with the people of Ohio.

The kool-aid must be extra strong in these states if they´re willing to give up their power to choose to a bunch of big cities that despise these same little "fly-over" states.

Coalition of flyover states should sue Ohio if they pass this. How many other Obama movement causes will states go rogue on?
Metro areas grabbing for a bigger piece of the pie IMO.
More creepy and threatening to the country than hands on Uncle Joe.

Insane. And it disenfranchises state voters, probably will, therefore, not pass muster in the SCOTUS.

This crap will end up in the SC, hopefully before the next election. It is a blatant violation of Article I, Section 10 of the United States Constitution which states that "No State shall, without the Consent of Congress... enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State."
Hopefully Conservative vote groups are on top of this and prepared to take action in the very near future.

Wow, great way to make your state irrelevant. They should change their state motto to "The Me Too State"

Here we go -leave the borders virtually unprotected so Texas turns blue and then have a few more states try this. The USA will not stand a chance of seeing another Republican in office ever again.

I am a firm proponent of "If states can nullify the constitution and federal law, then counties, villages, etc. can nullify state law." What are states going to do? Arrest them all? I doubt it.

Mob rule. I’d be furious if my vote were disenfranchised by fraud or illegal alien votes in California, Chicago, etc. Furious.

I would love that Trump wins 51% of the popular vote in 2020! Wouldn´t that absolute flip out the Democrats!?

The state can pass this stupid law, but it´s unconstitutional and it won´t stand up in court.

Because its on the ballot doesn´t mean it will pass. I live in Ohio and I don´t condone mob rule. BTW, I believe its unconstitutional and will see the SCOTUS prior to the 2020 election.
A prior comment referenced whether Cleveland, Columbus, and Cinn want NYC and LA to determine their government ignores the fact that they are mostly (Cinn is 50/50) heavily Dem urban areas, and sanctuary cities.
This should be a major league get out the vote opportunity! There´s a reason why Ohio is a battleground state!

Why do these state legislatures want to disenfranchise their citizenry? The Electoral College works as it was intended to.
Why does the citizenry stand for it? It should be a ballot issue if it´s considered at all.

#17: I have often thought that as well, as soon as I heard the first state to pass such a law. If The Donald gets 51% of the popular vote, the blue states will jettison that law quicker than you can say "Moochelle, be gone!"

Backers of Ohio’s popular vote amendment submitted two petitions with different summaries, an unusual tactic. One was a “fair and truthful representation” of the purpose of the amendment, the other rejected because it omitted the proposal’s main effect vital to a voter’s understanding “...that the amendment, if adopted, could require Ohio’s representatives in the ElectoralCollege to vote for the winner of the national presidential popular vote rather than for the winner of Ohio’s presidential popular vote.” The scheme now goes to the state Ballot Board for approval. In January, Colorado joined “the Soros effort (NPVIC) to destroy the Electoral College.”
