Trump-backed Daylight Saving Time bill
clears key House hurdle

A bipartisan push to make Daylight Saving Time permanent is heading for a chamber-wide vote after clearing a key House hurdle. The House Rules Committee on Monday teed up a floor vote on the Sunshine Protection Act, which would allow states to enact Daylight Saving Time year-round — with an option to opt out. The committee approved the rule in a 6-4 vote. The measure has the support of many coastal lawmakers and President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly urged Congress to make Daylight Saving Time permanent and end the twice-a-year ritual of changing clocks

Comments:

What a farce! This is almost as big a scam as gullible warming. No government can "save" daylight. Changing the clocks does not increase the amount of daylight - - it just clumsily shifts the work hours. If employers and employees want more daylight after work hours - - they can just start and end the workday an hour ealier. And what does "permanent" daylight "savings" do to New Year celebrations? Does the ball drop at daylight mdnight - - or at actual midnight? Stupid - - stupid - - stupid.

Two sisters — two different goals. The little sister of clean-cut Swedish activist Greta Thunberg is making a name for herself one dramatic ballad and split at a time. In a recent virtual chat with Interview Magazine, Beata MonaLisa, AKA Bea, (yes, that’s her real name: “I was born with it. It’s from my grandma Mona and great grandma Lisa,” she explained to the outlet) proved she’s not living in the shadows of her older, by three years, sister, who’s known for challenging the government with her strong opinions on climate change and societal issues.

Another favorite in the knockout round of the 2026 World Cup bit the dust Monday. After Germany was defeated by Paraguay in penalty kicks in a massive upset, another World Cup power received its walking papers early Tuesday as the Netherlands lost to Morocco in penalty kicks. Perhaps the moment that the Dutch will be thinking about for the next four years is Morocco’s second penalty kick, where Soufiane Rahimi appeared to have his shot blocked.

Team Trump’s fraud crackdown is turning up billions in stolen taxpayer money, even as Democrats do their best to ignore, deny and even enable it. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s announcement Tuesday of a massive takedown — 455 perps collared across nearly every US state and territory — roped in a whopping $6.5 billion in scams. The operation marked “the greatest combined federal and state effort combating health-care fraud in history,” Blanche noted.

WASHINGTON — Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Tuesday that the feds have charged hundreds of defendants in recent weeks for seeking to bilk taxpayer-funded programs out of $6.5 billion. “This announcement marks the greatest combined federal and state effort in combating health care fraud in history,” Blanche told reporters at the Department of Justice’s headquarters in DC. “These individuals participated in health care fraud schemes involving over $6.5 billion in false claims submitted to Medicare, Medicaid, and other health care programs.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer insisted Friday he was “not going to walk away” from the job with his Labour Party on course to be badly beaten in local and regional elections. Control of 136 local authorites in England, as well as the devolved parliaments in Scotland and Wales, were up for grabs Thursday. While many commentators had expected Labour to suffer heavy defeats amid public discontent with the economy, immigration and Starmer himself, partial results indicated the party was on track to take worse losses than even the most pessimistic predictions suggested.

The War Department released more than 160 files Friday related to sightings of UFOs dating back nearly 80 years, two days after President Trump predicted, “I think some of it’s going to be very interesting to people.” The disclosure of 162 files by the Pentagon follows a presidential order from February calling for transparency around “alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).”

Wild photos captured firefighters battling a raging five-alarm fire at historic Queens church, which suffered another devastating inferno over a century ago, on Thursday evening. The blaze started at a residence attached to the First Reformed Church of Astoria on 12th Street, between 27th Avenue and Main Avenue, around 6:45 p.m., according to the FDNY. Roughly 270 firefighters and EMS workers responded to the scene as the flames spread to the church and grew into a 5-alarm fire, fire officials added.

Burchett (R-Tenn.) appeared on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” on Tuesday, days after President Trump said the Pentagon would release documents on unidentified aerial phenomena “very, very soon.” “These people are seeing something out there,” he said of the recent uptick in UFO sightings across the US.

This forecast does not look good. Archaeologists might need to locate Noah’s lost ark sooner than we think. By 2085, over a third of all land animals’ habitats could be adversely impacted by extreme weather events such as fires and floods, should temperatures continue to surge worldwide, per an alarming study in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution. If we don’t reverse course, this “Day After Tomorrow”-esque confluence of events could potentially expedite extinctions.

If you look at George W. Bush, people—his reputation has gone up a little bit because he broke with [Donald] Trump, the next Republican. I’m not sure he voted for Trump, and he made his peace with [Barack] Obama. There were three things that people fault Bush for. I’m not sure he was responsible. No. 1 was the Iraq War. No. 2 was the Afghan War. No. 3 was the 2008 financial meltdown. I think he was the most conservative Republican president that we have had since forever. He was much more conservative than his father, George H.W. Bush. He tried to do a lot of things.

This past Memorial Day, more than 1,000 teens swarmed the blocks around Lake Michigan in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. A resident described the scene: “Hundreds of people were walking and running down our street, jumping on top of cars, twerking, smoking blunts.” One group twerked on the top of a city bus. At about 9 pm, the Chicago Police Department closed Lake Shore Drive. As sirens wailed, the Hyde Park resident armed himself with bear spray to retrieve something from his car. An hour later, a gunman shot three teens a block from the resident’s home. The suspect remains at large, though police made 13 arrests for illegal gun possession,

New York has spent years aggressively taxing its wealthiest residents in the name of fairness, and the results are now in. Suffice it to say, they’re not pretty. A new study released Monday by the Citizen Budget Commission (CBC) reveals the state’s share of America’s millionaires has dropped sharply since 2010, triggering a nearly $11 billion shortfall in tax revenue in a single year as high earners quietly packed up and left for lower-tax states. The analysis shows New York’s share of millionaires fell from 12.7% in 2010 to just 8.7% in 2022 — the steepest decline of any state in the country. As a direct result,

Democrats have many problems, not the least of which is an inability to understand, and for some the refusal to accept, basic economics. If they did, there wouldn’t be proposals to raise the federal minimum wage to a preposterous $25 an hour. House Resolution 8555 would “place the federal minimum wage on a durable path toward a living wage,” requiring “large, highly profitable corporations to lead the transition.” Under its yoke, large employers would have to raise their lowest wage from the current $7.25 an hour to $15 an hour on Jan. 1, 2027, a more-than-double spike that would shock the market.
