The Great Electricity Rip-Off: Why Your

For all of my adult life, I have believed that free markets incentivize innovation, generate lower costs, and improve services. Indeed, confidence in the value of free markets is one of the foundations of conservatism, and why I align with the Republican Party. I have also always felt that conservatives need to be on the lookout for industries that try to co-opt the free market movement, to take advantage of their customers, and do so under the guise of competition. Giving customers options is a good thing, but only if they actually deliver innovations, better services, and lower prices.

The politicians are in bed with the electrical companies in California. That's not the only state. The electrical infrastructure is in a mess in America just as many of the highways are not properly maintained. Americans refused to allow nuclear plants for electricity to be built. They pushed renewable energy instead vice nuclear plants which has to some extent failed. The introduction of data centers will exacerbate the problems and will not resolve the high cost of energy. Maybe AI can draw up plans to improve all the infrastructure problems of the country and reduce energy costs across the board.

The media have jumped on a recent conference presentation about a breast cancer test. Its results were presented at the ASCO meeting last month and reported as a breakthrough that could spare millions of women chemotherapy. The actual story is one of massive over-medication of women with toxic drugs and test failure. The trial of the test The claim is that the breast cancer test could predict who would benefit from chemotherapy. The truth was that it was good at predicting which women would have a cancer recurrence but it failed at the only useful claim of who would benefit.

Several House Republicans urged Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday to revoke the Southern Poverty Law Center's tax-exempt status in light of allegations the organization funded efforts to fabricate and expand extremist groups. The letter comes after a federal grand jury in April approved charges against the organization for alleged wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and other offenses. North Carolina GOP Rep. Mark Harris led the letter to Bessent, claiming the organization is not operating as a nonprofit but as a partisan "left-wing political machine,"

Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Knicks owner James Dolan could be forced to bury the hatchet if the team clinches an NBA championship — for potentially the biggest ticker-tape victory parade in New York City’s history. The Knicks’ instant-classic Game 4 victory Wednesday over the San Antonio Spurs puts the team one win away their first NBA championship in 53 years – and amped up talks about a befitting mega-celebration, insiders said. Jinxes be damned, officials were said to have met in City Hall on Thursday afternoon to hash out the logistics of a throwing a ticker-tape parade as soon as next week —

As more and more revelations come to the fore about Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner, who just won the Democrat primary this week, many Democrats seem to have adopted a simple mantra regarding his campaign: Vote for the Nazi: It’s important. The saying echoes a slogan from campaigns past — one that supporters of Republican Sen. Susan Collins, Platner’s opponent in the general election, would do well to employ against Platner. The slogan demonstrates how Democrats will embrace a candidate — any candidate — so long as that person opposes President Trump.

It would be the first time Congress has allowed Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to lapse since the law passed in 2008. It grants the government powers to spy on foreign nationals living abroad as part of counterterrorism efforts without requiring warrants. Congress has struggled for months to reach a deal that placates privacy hawks on the left and the right, who demand restraints they say are necessary to prevent the law from being abused. They argue that there are insufficient guardrails on the government’s sweeping up private information about Americans.

The Pentagon is on lockdown Thursday as emergency workers respond to the Department of War’s headquarters for a “hazardous materials incident,” Arlington County Fire and EMS said in a post to X. “ACFD units, including our Hazardous Materials Team, are currently operating at the Pentagon in support of PFPA’s Hazmat Team during a hazardous materials incident,” it said. Building systems detected an “air quality issue,” which prompted a shelter-in-place order, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement.

The Los Angeles mayoral race just got a little more interesting. It’s already been a wild ride, where wildfire victim Spencer Pratt seemed to be a shoo-in for the second spot the night the polls closed, only to see his lead slowly erode over the days as mail-in ballots continue to be counted in an excruciatingly slow fashion. Somehow, LA Councilwoman Nithya Raman, who tanked in the May debate and was a consistent third in the polls, is now seemingly destined to take the number two position and head to the November general election to face the failed incumbent, Karen Bass.

Nearly 90,000 unidentified children facing sexual abuse will finally be helped thanks to House Republicans funding the largest investment to fight child exploitation and trafficking. A provision included in the newly passed Department of Homeland Security funding bill will allow 200 new investigators to identify victims of child sexual abuse. “Right now, 89,000 unidentified image series of children being sexually abused have been seen by law enforcement—but these children have yet to be identified and are still waiting to be found due to resource and manpower shortages,” Tim Tebow, founder and chairman of the Tim Tebow Foundation, said.

The “sweetest” elderly Mississippi couple were allegedly killed by a teenage burglar who then shot at cops during a six-hour standoff while barricaded in the house, according to authorities. Billy Blair, 74, and his wife, Virginia Carol Blair, 71, were killed after 17-year-old Cordarius Hobbs broke into their home last Wednesday, WLBT reported. Hobbs has since been charged with capital murder. Cops swooped on the Mendenhall home just after noon for a welfare check after worried relatives couldn’t make contact — but they encountered gunfire upon their arrival. The burglary was already taking place when police arrived and the front door was open.

If you ask, many Americans will tell you that one of the things they hate most about "the swamp," Washington, D.C., is the fact that once a congressman or senator gets elected, pulling them out of said swamp is next to impossible, and the result is geriatric lawmakers being wheeled around in wheelchairs. It's certainly not what the Founding Fathers intended. Now, one House member may have the answer to this dilemma. Republican Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) has introduced a bill that would end both pay and power for House and Senate members who have reached 12 years of service in their respective legislative bodies.

Several excellent studies have estimated the number of people who have been incarcerated and the collateral consequences they face, but far less is known about the size and scope of the total U.S. population with felony convictions beyond prison walls, including those who serve their sentences on probation or in jail. The Minnesota Association of County Social Service Administrators (MACSSA) represents social service staff across the state's 87 counties and is asking the state to step in and make changes to the law.
