Xi Jinping's inward-facing actions, however, betray a deep sense of insecurity. Trump can take advantage of it.
China's people — to the regime "building material" — are now extremely unhappy in the Communist Party "engineering state." Gloom, as a result, has descended over Chinese society.
Xi has responded to the unhappiness in society by initiating a censorship campaign against "excessively pessimistic sentiment." Most significantly, he is not willing to implement structural changes to put more money in the pockets of the laobaixing, the common folk.

Waymo is recalling about 3,800 robotaxis in the U.S. to fix software issues that could allow them to “drive onto a flooded roadway,” according to a letter on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website.
The voluntary recall is for Waymo vehicles that use the company’s fifth and sixth generation automated driving systems (or ADS), the U.S. auto safety regulator said in the letter posted Tuesday.
Waymo autonomous vehicles in Austin, Texas were recently seen on camera driving onto a flooded street and stalling, requiring other drivers to navigate around them.

I have a couple of friends who are liberals -- not those liberals who have reached what I call “the incurable terminal stage.” Nor are they the psychotics who, the moment they are exposed to facts or viewpoints different from theirs become wild-eyed and hysterical. Even so, on certain topics their ability to reason seems to break down.
A couple of months back, the issue of illegal aliens came up. They voiced the usual talking points on the topic: the aliens are just trying to build a better life, they pay taxes, only a few commit crimes, etc. They did not state they are being kidnapped and put in concentration camps.

Peggy Flanagan is the far-left Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota. She has been present throughout Tim Walz’s disastrous tenure in office, but has left little mark. If she is known for anything, it is 1) being part Native American, and 2) holding down the farthest left position on the political spectrum. Flanagan is now running for Minnesota’s vacant seat in the U.S. Senate and, despite her radicalism (or on account of it) she has been endorsed by pretty much all the prominent Democrats, from Bernie Sanders to Ilhan Omar to current Senator Tina Smith.

Brigitte Macron’s viral attack on her husband — which was caught on cameras — was a result of the steamy messages allegedly sent between her former student, 48, and Iranian-born Golshifteh Farahani, 42, journalist Florian Tardif claimed in an interview with RTL France.
“I find you very pretty,” President Macron told Farahani, in one of the messages, according to Tardif, whose book, “An (Almost) Perfect Couple,” was published Wednesday.

“How many people have you met who are homeless and don’t have any teeth?” she questioned. “Their teeth are gone because of meth. It’s hard to succeed without teeth. So, we need to offer comprehensive healthcare for these individuals.”

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said his office will “aggressively seek to retry Alex Murdaugh for the murders of Maggie and Paul as soon as possible.”
Murdaugh’s first trial lasted a historic six weeks, making it one of the longest in South Carolina history.

We haven’t seen or heard much from former California Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14) since he abandoned his gubernatorial run and resigned from Congress in disgrace in April amid allegations of sexual abuse and rape.
For a few days after the scandal broke, he holed up in the mansion of his buddy, billionaire Stephen Cloobeck — but then lefty timeshare titan turned on him, kicked him out of his house, and demanded that he return $1 million in donations.
Now it’s Cloobeck’s turn to feel the heat, as he was arrested in West Hollywood Tuesday and charged with a felony for attempting to prevent or dissuade a victim or witness from testifying.

Authorities said Michael Mott, 41, was the man hit by the plane on May 9. Mott has been arrested 20 times previously, including for attempted murder. He was most recently arrested about a month before he trespassed at the Denver airport.

As President Donald Trump and hundreds of aides, security personnel and officials prepare to travel to China, many will leave behind one of the most basic tools of modern government: their everyday cellphones.
Instead, officials entering China often travel with stripped-down "clean" devices, temporary laptops and tightly controlled communications systems designed to minimize the risk of surveillance, hacking or data collection in what U.S. officials consider one of the world’s most aggressive cyber environments.
The precautions can transform even routine tasks into logistical headaches. Messages that would normally travel instantly through encrypted apps or synced devices are instead routed through controlled channels, temporary accounts or relayed in person.

Health issues were floated by political observers as the reason for the decision. The 73-year-old Lyles had been notably absent from many official public functions, including zoning meetings, since her reelection and had also appeared confused, forgetful, and repetitive at the ones she did attend.

A recent study by Portmann and colleagues (Observational constraints project a ~50% AMOC weakening by the end of this century - PMC) warns of yet another impending “climate disaster.” The study predicts that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a key component of thermohaline circulation, will weaken approximately 50 percent by the end of the century.
If true or grounded in solid evidence, it would be quite alarming because the AMOC drives warm water from the tropics and subtropics into the North Atlantic and Arctic. This immense “heat pump” moderates the climates of western Europe to a large degree, keeping it much warmer than inland counterparts at comparable latitudes.

The point of a republic isn’t to enforce all the most brilliant ideas. It’s to not let one arrogant and selfish group bulldoze all the others. It’s the belief that if any group oversteps its boundaries, the pain itself (and the ensuing anger) should lead the other people to fix it.
In other words, the real question, today, in our republic, is whether stupid people should be allowed to cheat.

President Donald Trump is eyeing oil-rich Venezuela as a potential 51st state as officials continue to court oil companies for investments in the South American country following the U.S. intervention that removed President Nicolas Maduro from power.
Trump said in a phone call with Fox News that he is motivated by the estimated $40 trillion value of oil in Venezuela, adding that he is popular with the country's citizens.
"Venezuela loves Trump," Trump said.
After U.S. military officials captured Maduro in January, whom the Justice Department indicted on narco-terrorism charges, Trump said the United States would "run" the country during its transitional period and work with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.
