Inside the ‘digital lockdown’ for
US officials as Trump arrives in China

As President Donald Trump and hundreds of aides, security personnel and officials prepare to travel to China, many will leave behind one of the most basic tools of modern government: their everyday cellphones. Instead, officials entering China often travel with stripped-down "clean" devices, temporary laptops and tightly controlled communications systems designed to minimize the risk of surveillance, hacking or data collection in what U.S. officials consider one of the world’s most aggressive cyber environments. The precautions can transform even routine tasks into logistical headaches. Messages that would normally travel instantly through encrypted apps or synced devices are instead routed through controlled channels, temporary accounts or relayed in person.

Comments:

It is smart to assume that everything is spied on in China. It is certainly true.

When I traveled to Russia when I was working for a government contractor in a high security weapons business, I had a new government owned laptop given to me for travel, and was told in no uncertain terms that "this laptop NEVER will return to this facility, under any circumstances". The assumption was that any laptop that went into Russia was likely to be hacked or physically compromised, some sort of spy software or chip installed or similar, and therefore it could never come into the facility or be connected to that network again. When I left the company, the laptop when into an industrial shredder. I wish I could have kept it, but it was government property. I only used it for unclassified work, so no problem, really, if the Russians had access to it some way. Nothing very interesting that they didn't already know from our meetings. Bottom line, never trust the bad guys. Ever.

Everything said between Xi and Trump will be scripted in detail, with no surprises. It is a theatrical production for domestic consumption and the protection of national interests. There will be no substantial announcements that haven't been agreed upon weeks ago. With one exception. Thursday morning Xi will meet with Trump in one of the most historically significant places in all of China, the Temple of Heaven. This has never been visited by a Western leader due to its importance in Chinese mythology. The temple was reserved for the diviners of the dynasty emperor to confirm or alert him to any changes in the "mandate of heaven," which determined the length and success of his rule. There will only be four people in the room. Xi Jinping, his daughter, Xi Mingze, Trump, and his own interpreter. Xi's daughter is Harvard-educated, English-speaking, and will serve as Xi's translator, whom he can trust to keep his deepest secrets. This will be the only time Xi will be able to talk directly and openly with Trump about his power in China, the state of his control over the military, and his ambitions for reunification with China. Trump will be able to observe and assess Xi's real intent and his future as China's leader. What Trump says to Xi will also be frank and direct. It will set the stage for all future meetings. It is doubtful that Xi can risk traveling outside of Beijing without fear of being deposed, so this may be their last meeting for some time.

Authorities in Minnesota have filed criminal charges against a man accused of a food stamp fraud scheme that defrauded taxpayers out of over $1 million. Abdidwahid Mohamed, the owner of Minnesota Food Grocery LLC, allegedly used EBT cards registered to others to purchase items at Sam’s Club and Costco in 2021 before turning around and reselling them in his store, Fox 9 Minneapolis reported. Authorities in Hennepin County say they observed Mohamed making purchases and followed him back to his store with the goods. Surveillance footage and GPS data backed this up, while investigators noted that many of the EBT cardholders were either out of the country

Recently, my colleague Greg Maresca wrote an excellent description of life aboard a Navy amphibious ship with one of the two Marine Expeditionary Units (MEUs) currently afloat in the Persian Gulf. My last “float” was in 1978-79 with the predecessor of the 31st MEU now in the Gulf — they were then called Marine Amphibious Units (MAUs). Life aboard ship was exactly as Greg described it. However, being peacetime, we did get some great liberty in places like Hong Kong (then British), Taiwan, the Philippines, and Japan. We practiced and were ready for nearly every foreseeable contingency

A shadow has lifted over American democracy. For generations, government-mandated racial prejudice quietly diluted the voting power of American whites, the very group that forms the overwhelming core of the Republican electorate. On April 29, the Supreme Court finally ended this systemic discrimination in its ruling in Louisiana v. Callais. The decision strikes down race-based congressional maps that artificially boost minority districts at the expense of equal representation. The judgment applies to state and local districts, too. It restores a simple truth: districts must reflect population realities, not engineered outcomes designed to weaken one race’s electoral voice. This is no minor adjustment. It is a foundational correction to 40 years of constitutional betrayal.

It was about 2 A.M. on a chilly night in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. While on radio car patrol, my partner and I were notified that an anonymous caller had heard unusual sounds at a hardware store that had been closed for several hours. Since we couldn’t find a break in front, we checked the hallway of the building next door, finding a window that accessed the rear yard. I climbed onto a narrow ledge and inched my way toward the grimy-looking rear window of the store.
When leftists abandon reason, the shooting starts 8 replies

Once again, the left has attempted to assassinate President Trump and/or those in his Cabinet. But why do these instances of violence continue to occur? Pretty simple: The left has abandoned reason and debate. I came about my “worldview” over a forty- to fifty-year period by engaging smart (and some not so smart) people, and by challenging my notions on particular important subjects; economics, religion, culture, foreign affairs, and more. [snip] I’ve found very few leftists willing to engage in deep debate on important matters, before they, like pigeons, crap on the board and knock over all the chess pieces.

Politics is often framed as a battle of ideas. Elections. Messaging. Media narratives. But beneath all that lies something more fundamental — and far less discussed. Demography. Because in the long run, it is not the loudest voices who win. It is the next generation. And increasingly, that generation is not being raised by the political left. [snip] This would explain Democrats’ open borders policies, which, combined with generous welfare benefits, add millions of voters electing to continue the gravy train. The real divide is not just race or geography. It is fertility. And on that front, the left is losing.

I’m wondering if at this point, we can all agree that the Covid shot was a bioweapon? From basically flatline for decades to over 3,500+ reports in 2021 alone? That’s not a gentle curve - that’s a cliff. A pair of Chinese-American siblings is accused of planting an improvised explosive device (IED) at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. The siblings, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have revealed, are the now adult “anchor babies” of Chinese illegal aliens who were rewarded birthright citizenship for their two children after their mother delivered them in the United States. Last week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) brought charges against 20-year-old Alen Zheng and 27-year-old Ann Mary Zheng after they allegedly orchestrated an attack on MacDill Air Force Base, including planting an IED on the premises.

First, let’s look at a new stat, from AFPost on X: That means just 285 suspected shooters were white, while a whopping 18,715 were non-white. When we cross-reference that data with numbers from the city, we see more of the whole picture. The US Senate on Thursday unanimously approved a resolution to withhold their pay during a government shutdown. The resolution, adopted by voice vote, was authored by Republican Senator John Kennedy (LA). “My resolution to stop senators’ pay during government shutdowns cleared a key procedural vote today, moving it one step closer to final passage,” Kennedy said on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the Thursday vote. “Fair-minded Americans know senators should feel the pain of a shutdown with the American people,” Kennedy said. Kennedy’s resolution suspends Senators’ pay during partial or full government shutdowns. “It’s called shared sacrifice,” Kennedy said.

A breaking news alert from Fox News, apparently confirmed by a Republican congresswoman, states that the Central Intelligence Agency went rogue, raiding the office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to seize files. It seems from the Fox News report that the CIA seized the files just now, though a whistleblower from the agency who testified to Congress today referred to the wrongful seizure of files in his testimony. It is therefore not clear if the raid occurred today or before the testimony, or if there was more than one seizure.

Last month, the Supreme Court issued a 6-3 ruling in Louisiana v. Callais, striking down Louisiana’s congressional map as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. Babies are proverbially easy to steal from, and California is going to swipe the very diapers off their bottoms. Of course, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has promised the opposite, announcing a program to provide “free” diapers to newborns. This is meant to appear as a generous and pro-baby plan, and Newsom was even applauded by some pro-life and pro-family writers and activists. But this is California, notorious for fraud and boondoggles ranging from fake hospices to the high-speed rail train to nowhere. So, in evaluating this program, it is pointless to try to parse the projected cost-per-diaper because California cannot accurately estimate such costs.
