Since the Virginia General Assembly approved a revised version of the bill last week, there's been a whole lot of confusion about Virginia's HB 1525, which raises the age to purchase handguns from 18 to 21 and requires the Virginia State Police to resume conducting background checks on private sales. Governor Abigail Spanberger's amended version contained language that declared the act an emergency, which would allow it to take effect immediately, but the legislature did not approve the changes with a 4/5ths vote, which is supposedly what's required in order for that "emergency" provision to be adopted.

Earlier, RedState reported on how GOP Rep. Brandon Gill (TX-26) masterfully confronted an abortion advocate Tuesday during a House hearing on the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act by not only asking her what her favorite abortion procedure was but also describing them in gruesome detail so others watching and listening to the hearing would understand exactly what was being discussed. The more the Democrat witness, American University Washington College of Law Professor Jessica Waters, kept trying to avoid the question and pivot, the more Gill pressed her on where she stood on it. She was so evasive on it that at one point,

About 100 years ago, the great Calvin Coolidge famously announced that “the business of America is business” (or words to that effect). Of course, nowadays, we’d have to say, “the business of America is business, unless you lose, then you can manipulate the government to get what you want.” Late last year, Netflix announced its intent to buy Warner Bros. for $83 billion, which would gain them the Hollywood mainstay’s library of intellectual properties ranging from Batman and Harry Potter to CNN and Discovery. When I opined about this here a few months ago,

Mayor Zohran Mamdani is pleading with the City Council to sign off on a budget extension — as the freshman city leader scrambles to try to milk Albany for more money with his wish list of new taxes DOA, The Post has learned. Sources said Speaker Julie Menin — who has been a check on the mayor’s bloated budget spending — agreed to the request, with the caveat of the socialist mayor agreeing to find savings to fill the nearly $6 billion gap. Hizzoner requested the delay from the council with hopes that Gov. Kathy Hochul and other state lawmakers —

A “selfless and caring” Costco employee, who was his elderly mother’s sole caregiver, was killed in a senseless shooting after he tried to stop a gun-carrying shopper from entering the Ohio big-box store on Saturday, new court records show. Randy Corrigan, 61, was working at the Strongville, Ohio Costco last Saturday when witnesses say he told a man walking up to the entrance with a “drum magazine protruding from one of his pockets” that he could not enter the store with a gun, according to court documents obtained by FOX 8.

Viktor Orbán, the valiant populist, the restorer of the Christian faith in Hungary, the welcome thorn in the side of the EU establishment, and the strong ally of President Trump since his first bid for office, has lost his own re-election bid. I had a feeling it would come to this. Sixteen years of uninterrupted administration as a strong force for conservative, right-wing nationalist populism have come to an end, at least with Orbán as the head of it. Sometimes, voters have a strange fatigue when it comes to governments. Fourteen years of a “conservative” UK government ushered in the Labour Party in 2024. However, fatigue doesn’t explain Orbán’s crushing loss.

President Donald Trump stood tall, stalwart, and amazingly calm as he fielded questions from the press in the wake of the third assassination attempt on his life in 21 months. Fox News White House senior correspondent Peter Doocy had a two-part question for the president, but it was the second portion that elicited this profound response. Doocy said, "I ask, respectfully: Why do you think this keeps happening to you?" Trump was pensive and deliberate in his answer. Our 40th president, Ronald Wilson Reagan, is the most recent example of a president who survived an assassination attempt,

So long as Arabs and Muslims are taught by law, religion and social pressure that contact with Israelis is forbidden, the prospects for peace and coexistence will remain out of reach. If [Lebanese President Joseph] Aoun... were to accept Trump's invitation to meet Netanyahu at the White House, he would effectively be violating Lebanon's own anti-normalization law, which prohibits all economic, professional, cultural, or social relations between Lebanese nationals and Israeli citizens and entities. Countries such as Syria and Iraq have long maintained sweeping prohibitions on contact with Israelis, with penalties that have included life imprisonment and even death.

President Trump on Sunday evening blasted ’60 Minutes’ anchor Norah O’Donnell for reading portions of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooter’s manifesto. A heavily armed man stormed the lobby of the Washington Hilton Saturday night, sprinted past a Secret Service checkpoint and shot at a Secret Service agent. The shooter, identified as Cole Allen, 31, of Torrence, California, was taken into custody and charged with using a firearm during a crime of violence and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. On Sunday it was revealed that Cole Allen wrote a manifesto and expressed his hatred for “pedophile, rapist” Trump.

President Trump berated CBS News correspondent Norah O’Donnell after she quoted parts of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting suspect’s alleged manifesto, branding her a “disgrace” and saying she should be ashamed of herself. Trump lashed out at the journalist during his “60 Minutes” interview Sunday night – hours after it emerged alleged gunman Cole Allen penned a 1,052-word missive stating he believed it was his righteous duty to target Trump administration officials. The president became particularly irked when O’Donnell quoted Allen’s alleged words directly, saying, “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.”

The 10 Commandments are back in the news. A federal appeals court this week ruled that it’s fine for them to be printed on posters and tacked to the wall in Texas public school classrooms. The plaintiffs in the case are poised to appeal this decision to the Supreme Court of the United States, so the fate of this law remains uncertain. The majority opinion noted that “No child is made to recite the Commandments, believe them, or affirm their divine origin,” so the law’s requirements are essentially passive and pretty benign. But liberals continue to regurgitate the same arguments they have since the 1962 Engel v. Vitale decision outlawing voluntary,

New York City's self-described democratic socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has made history, just not the kind worth bragging about. Barely months into office, he has blown past a statutory budget deadline for the first time since 2015, declared a fiscal crisis of "historic magnitude," and responded to a $5.4 billion budget gap the way any good socialist would: by asking someone else to pay for it. Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin appeared together at City Hall on Tuesday to announce they would delay the executive budget, originally due May 1, until May 12 while lobbying Albany to bail out a city

Despite a $7.1 billion hole, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has pushed back against any serious cutting to his budget and instead wants to delay required payments to city pension funds. That’s precisely the kind of tactics that brought the city to the brink of bankruptcy in the ’70s. At the least, it will saddle future taxpayers with unnecessary costs. For the moment, the city is on-track to meeting its long-term pension-funding obligations by its 2032 deadline. Yet to help close his budget hole, Mamdani would push $1 billion worth of payments into the 2040s. That would be both costly and risky.

DeLauro, the purple-haired ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, argued Zeldin’s budget proposal “reads like a climate change denier’s manifesto” as she asked the EPA chief to “justify abandoning [the EPA’s] duty to protect Americans” from climate change. Zeldin, a former Republican New York congressman, wasn’t having it. “Following the law,” he responded. “Section 202 of the Clean Air Act. The study, conducted by the Foundation for Government Accountability, connected 14,000 luxury vehicles to food stamp enrollees, with Lexus being the most common brand.
